Synthroid dosage change

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid dosage change

synthroid

Avatar n tn My Doctor ,mistakenly, changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid, same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ? This discussion is related to Synthroid versus generic levothyroxine (I have Hashimoto's).
Avatar n tn 1 mcg of Synthroid and that he was going to change my dosage to 0.75 mcg. If my TSH level is already low, wouldn't lowering my dosage of Synthroid make this level even lower? Are palpitations a symptom of low TSH? I am due to have a repeat TSH in 2 months at which time I will ask the M.D. to add a T3 and T4 (these have not been drawn for some time).....
Avatar m tn I'm sorry, I'm still confused about your Synthroid dosage. Synthroid is dosed in 25 mcg, 50 mcg, 75 mcg, 88 mcg, 100 mcg, 112 mcg, 125 mcg and on up the scale. I've never seen it dosed at 1.23 mcg or 2.0 mcg. Do you mean mg, rather than mcg? 1.23 mg would equal 123 mcg and 2.0 mg would equal 200 mcg. Have you tried a different thyroid medication, such as levoxyl or a generic levo, to see if that changes anything.
1352348 tn?1315550254 Could the huge improvement you noticed have been due to the residual effect of the Synthroid coupled with the faster acting Erfa, and then the Synthroid effect gradually faded away (if you stopped taking Synthroid when starting Erfa). In addition I suspect that your current dosage is not high enough, since the most important thyroid test result, FT3, actually dropped from May to July.
Avatar n tn Hi. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism over 5 years ago now. I am very good about taking my meds and get my blood taken periodically to check TSH levels. I have been on .88 of synthroid now for the last 10 months. I recently went to my gyno and he took some blood to check my tsh because I was there. I usually go to another doctor but I let him take the blood. My results came back with a tsh of .12. They wanted to raise my synthroid to .1 . Shouldn't they want to lower the dosage?
Avatar f tn My total thyroid was removed because of Cancer. I have gone through Radiation Abliation and am cancer free. I am on Synthroid .50 five days a week & .75 for two days. My dosage has been changed several times. I would like to know what would be the correct dosage if I change to Nature-Throid? The conversion chart is confusing? I am having problems getting my levels correct. Will Nature-Throid work to suppress recurrence of cancer and work better to level the TSH, T3, & T4?
Avatar m tn s very possible that it could be a combination of both the dosage change and brand change. Or you could have a touch of the flu -- I had a bout of flu a while back and didn't have coughing/sneezing either; just fever and the body aches - felt like I was gonna die. My doctor later told me that most likely it was H1N1, but since I wasn't tested, I guess I'll never know. Why did your doctor increase your dosage? What are your latest lab results for TSH, FT3 and FT4?
Avatar n tn My doc recently doubled my Armor dosage from 120mg to 240mg taken simultaneously. Has anyone experienced this dramatic of an increase? Wouldn't this be the equivalent of 400mcg of levoxyl or synthroid? Hashi's ...been on Armor about 10 mos...switched from Levoxyl 150mcg to 90mg Armor...upped to 120mg in Nov....now DOUBLED? Any thoughtful opinions would be appreciated...
1671473 tn?1450592437 Possible i will experience a lite symptoms of hypothyroid when i change my new medication. when i change my medication 2yrs ago synthroid to thyrax after 2 weeks having a terrible symptoms of hypothyroid after 1/half month before i become normal again.
Avatar n tn Hello. I was wondering if I could get an opinion. I was on 112 mg of Synthroid. My results were as follows: TSH .87 (.67 - 4.5) Free T4 1.2 (.67 - 1.76) I was feeling a little bit hyper on this dosage. I was nervous, not sleeping , etc. I think that I seem to do better when my TSH is a little higher. I already had 100 mg of Synthroid, so I started taking the 100's, with the knowledge of my doctor, but by day 3, I was crying, emotional, and not feeling good at all.
Avatar f tn It does take time for the body to adjust to the dosage change and it take 4-6 weeks for the change to reach full potential in your blood.
Avatar f tn Hello. I was wondering if I could get some advice on my current dose of Synthroid. I was on 88 mcg with a TSH of 5.8. I was increased to 100 mcg. I have been on 100 for 3 weeks. I went ahead and tested my TSH after only 3 weeks because I wasn't feeling great. I did not test Free's. The TSH is now 3.44. My symptoms are anxiety, constipation, interrupted sleep, etc.
Avatar f tn 1 Synthroid, with annual thyroid blood tests. When my TSH levels drop or rise above the normal range, the doctor adjusts my Synthroid dosage. I also have uncomfortable symptoms when I am not in the normal TSH range. Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
Avatar n tn Also, 14 days is not long enough to evaluate a change in T4 med dosage, much less just a change in Brands. I am not very impressed with your doctor at this point. What is your daily dosage of Synthroid. What were your latest thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report? Even more important than lab test results are symptoms. Please tell us about all the symptoms you have.
Avatar f tn I said I have been on synthroid for 25 years and have never been below the normal range and asked her if lowering the lithium dose could have caused this and she said maybe. Then she asked me what I wanted to do. She felt the free t4 was within range. I then said reduce the dose to see if it helps. She lowered it to 88 mcg from 100 mcg and said to have bloodwork in 4 to 6 weeks. I thought why is she asking me what to do and not her advising me .
Avatar m tn There seems to be a correlation in my mood and susceptibility to stress with changes in Synthroid dosage. Is there a recommended strategy with Synthroid dosing with stress issues? In the last 10 days or so my vasoconstriction seems to kick in at a drop of a hat. 3. I also get occasional cortisol flood (probably stress related) and feel like I am on immunosuppressant doses of prednisone (sugar absorption, etc).
Avatar f tn I spent the night in the ER about 4 weeks ago after having chest pains and was told that my TSH level was at 63. They gave me IV synthroid and told to take my prescribed dosage. I followed up with my GP and was told to increase my dosage of synthroid to 150 mg until they got my blood work back. The next day my GP told me to take 150 mg 6 days a week and 300 mg on the 7th. After 3.5 weeks (while at the gym) I started to have chest discomfort.
Avatar f tn I see no reason why you would not consider a med change. I don't believe the Synthroid may be right if you are on such a high doseage. It would be best to post your T3 and T4 number to really get a good look at it. ....but over a100 TSH and a dosage as I high as this. I would have no problem demanding a different thyroid medication like Armour. (and I did exactly that a while back) I am now doing well on my Armour medication. Your cholestrol must be sky high.
Avatar n tn Have you had a follow up blood test to monitor your dosage change to 50mcg? It certainly sounds like hyper symptoms to me, but you should be monitored closely and tested with any dosage change. Call your doc and describe your symptoms and ask why you haven't been tested to check the effectiveness of your new dosage change. You should have been tested at 6 weeks!
Avatar f tn oops, WITHOUT changing dosage.
Avatar m tn My doctor changed my Synthroid dosage from 100 mcg once a day to 112 mcg SIX days a week. Has anyone ever heard of skipping a day of Synthroid? Also, are there any insights as to why a doctor would make this change? Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn I had the exact same problem of severe toe/foot/lower leg cramps that sometimes scared me. These started a couple of years after I started Synthroid. (The Synthroid saved me.) But my doctor should have told me what two of my friends told me who take Sythroid--that I needed to take Magnesium. Within a week or two the cramps were all gone, and my fatigue level was better. I'm SO THANKFUL! (I always take the Mag.
