Synthroid dosage for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid dosage for weight loss

synthroid

Avatar f tn I was diagnoxed with Graves disease in 2005. I had a thyroid ablation in November of 05 and began to feel better quickly with the help of a beta-blocker. AFter 6 mos. I was taken off the beta-blocker because my TSH levels were where I could be medicated with an artificial thyroid medication. I was given Synthroid but I don't remember the dosage. My dosage was changed probably 3 times over the next year, and each time I gained probably 15 or 20 pounds.
Avatar m tn m sure there are plenty of people who just take it and wait for the weight loss. I am on a combo of T3 and Synthroid and I have adjusted till my levels all evened out in labs. I am at my ideal dose now. Still gaining, though I am reading a ton of info on fluid retention and may try to focus on that. I have read contless stories of health nuts on Syntroid who work out, do Yoga etc, and can't lose weight. I wonder..
Avatar m tn My wife was diagnised as hypothyroid several years ago, although she had no antibodies. She started taking 75 MCG of Synthroid, and has been taking it ever since. Despite irregular periods, she was able to get pregnant and he had a healthy baby (she continued the synthroid thruogh pregnancy and her levels were normal). However, 14 months after the baby was born she is exhibiting many sympoms of HYPERthyroidism -- sleeplessness, weight loss, and significant anxiety.
Avatar f tn Has anyone heard that the dosage is based on your weight? My numbers are perfect, according to the doctor, however, I am always tired, have reflux problems that the gastro doesn't understand why, I am constantly having hard stools, not gaining or losing weight, and getting very frustrated. I keep thinking I need my dosage raised but no one will listen to me. Am I thinking the right way or not? Help! Need your advise.
Avatar n tn Symptoms of overmedication could include inability to sleep, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, feeling overheated.
Avatar n tn ve been taking Synthroid for the hormone now. Apparently I was on too much med for a while. I found another doctor and now I'm wondering if I'm too low. I have some muscle weakness (I get muscle cramps in my lower legs by my ankles with just trying to briskly walk a mile -- this has not been a problem for me before), a burning icy-hot sensation in my arm, ALL my teeth hurt the other day ?, my heart has been racing a bit more lately.
Avatar n tn ve posted here before after expiencing bouts of what felt like hyperthyroidism - anxiety, sinus tachy, insomina, weight loss (more than 10lbs), blood pressure spikes, etc. These symtpoms have been on and off since last November (07). Since then my synthyroid dosage has been dropped from 137mcg/day to 100mcg (5 times a week). I still can not put back on the weight and recently began experiencing the racing heart (usually in the morning) - worse when climbing the stairs to work.
Avatar n tn It has for me. I just have no appetite. I'm hoping that turns around once my levels are up!
4401150 tn?1354025255 Two weeks ago, I started having a resurgence of anxiety and panic attacks after losing about 20 lbs on Weight Watchers. I suspected my dosage of Synthroid was too high given my new weight. I went in for bloodwork and the results did show my TSH was below the healthy range so I am going to cut back to 100 mcgs six days a week instead of 7 days a week.
Avatar n tn what can cause my body to need less synthroid when all was fine on my dosage of 137mcg for months before I had symptoms of being hyper. And can keeping my TSH a little higher be masking something else? I get a FNA of one of my thyroid nodules on tuesday because it is slightly bigger than in 2002. Thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease when I was 19 years old - I had a total thyroidectomy in May 2005. In January of this year, I started dieting and including exercise in my daily routine. I have lost a little over 50 lbs. The past two weeks, I have been having angioedema and hives, feeling gittery and experience mood swings. I had blood work done earlier this week and have been moved from 110 mcg to 125 mcg. Can you explain the change in dosage?
Avatar n tn I had the exact same problem of severe toe/foot/lower leg cramps that sometimes scared me. These started a couple of years after I started Synthroid. (The Synthroid saved me.) But my doctor should have told me what two of my friends told me who take Sythroid--that I needed to take Magnesium. Within a week or two the cramps were all gone, and my fatigue level was better. I'm SO THANKFUL! (I always take the Mag.
Avatar f tn I was feeling a bit hyperthyroid previous to the 2 weeks without (possibly due to the weight loss). Weight loss was a good thing, I've been trying via Weight Watchers to lose weight. It was lost over several months, so at a normal rate, I believe. My last test result for TSH was .094 uIU/ml and the standard range is from .3 to 5.6 (my doctor wants me at around .
Avatar f tn Everyone is so different .. I have been exactly same weight on/off synthroid so hard to really know for sure ..... When was your surgery done ? And the date of the TSH bloodwork? WELCOME to the Community!
Avatar n tn Most on T4 (Synthroid) need the morning TSH around 1.0 to stop gaining weight. You probably started gaining weight on the Synthroid because your thyroid gland was suddenly getting a little bit of hormone so it didn't have to work as hard because it was getting supplemented, but not with enough Synthroid. Most likely you need an increase in the dosage, but you were away. Usually the dosage is adjusted every 6 weeks until the proper dosage is found, then its tested every 3, 6, or 12 months.
Avatar f tn Oops --- I meant hypO/Hashi's NOT hypER/Hashi........sorry about that.
Avatar f tn I've been on synthroid for 10 years since I'm 22 and I've developed nothing but side effects from acid reflux to brain fog, hair loss, weight gain, and extreme fatigue. My doctor agreed Armour would be a good try and she started me at 120 mcg because she said that it's not usually exactly the same dosage and we'd check blood work in 4 weeks. Is this a good starting point?
Avatar n tn ) It is common for hair loss, weight gain, and hard to get pregnant when you are hypothyroid. It will take a while for symptoms to get better. They say it can take up to a yr for symptoms to go away, once you are at optimal dosage. Those of us with hashi's sometimes struggle to find an optimal dosage over a long period of time. Try to be patient.
Avatar f tn However, when the prescription cost rose to $80 (for 3 months), I asked the doctor for the generic. I have been taking this now for about 6 months and have noticed weight gain (10 pounds) and some hair loss. I will have blood work in a few weeks. Has anyone else noticed weight gain when switching to the generic?
Avatar f tn I have been taking Synthroid for about 2 years now, my dosage is still not stable. I just leared today that my levels are still off (after getting a dosage increase 3 months ago) From what my Endo tells me, you have to allow 8-12 weeks for a new dosage to really take effect. I also recently learned (which was not told to me by my last Endo) that multi vitamins can affect the way your Synthroid is absorbed since it is a sensitive medication (hence the taking it on an empty stomach).
Avatar n tn I have been taking Synthroid for about 9 years now and have my TSH tested at least once a year. I just had it done this month and the result was 4.704, which is slightly above normal limits according to the nurse. She told me my physician was going to keep my dosage the same, which is 100mcg, even though my physician noted at my exam that my thyroid gland was enlarged and I am having classic hypothyroidism symptoms.
2076619 tn?1331842818 Hey, FYI, hair loss when first starting synthroid is a known side effect. It happened to me, and did stop after the first couple months.
