Common Questions and Answers about Using synthroid for weight loss

synthroid

Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar n tn My doctor put me on 88 mg. synthroid 6 days a week and 5mg. cytomel twice a day. I have more energy but I am still gaining weight. Any suggestions? I really am getting frustrated by this dieting and weight gain. This discussion is related to Thyroid medication and weight loss.
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
899045 tn?1241824973 I have been working really hard with my weight-loss, I exercise more than most people I know in my weight loss group, 65oz of water per day, 20-25 carbs, Veggies, Lean meats, no sugars, you name it, I've been doing it. I am also HypoThyroid and on 50mcg of Levothroid. My weight loss had been a upward battle, very hard battle. Anyhow, I spoke to a Dr. on the phone (My Dr. is out on leave), she looked at my chart and said that as we get older, we exercise less. I am only 35.
Avatar n tn I think last year my weight was 59kg. So what could be the reason for my weight loss? I walk everyday, my diet is good and healthy, my times for eating meals are very much on time, I am a strict vegetarian, milk, once a week tofu are the main sources of protiens. There are almonds, veggies, and fruits are included in my diet. Though my own business needs a lot of physical work too, but has been for 10 years. So what is the reason for my weight loss. I am really worried. I dont feel tired.
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar m tn They gave you reference ranges? Is that 76-81 what they told you for that lab? If so, that's the range you're using, even though another lab will use another range. That's why reference ranges always have to come from own report. Did they give you a range for the FT4? If I use the range my lab uses, you're result is not right dab in the middle; it's only 30%, so they must be using a different range.
Avatar f tn Low energy, feelings of fatigue, anxiety, depression, mental fog, body aches and weight loss. Normal weight for me is 132 to 135. I am currently at 129 and I will drop to 125 over night. I have found bloodwork from 1999. Appears I have always been on the hyperthyroid side. Here is my bloodwork info that I have. 1999 TSH - 1.0 Everything else appears normal. In April 2010 - couple months after thyroidectomy TSH - 0.04, Free Thyroxine 1.15, Sept. 2010 TSH 0.02, T3 in normal range, T4 2.4.
474314 tn?1219345522 I am having my thyroid out (TT) soon. Has anyone who has had this procedure lost weight after the surgery and synthroid medication or am I in for more weight gain? Sheri Should I schedule Lap Band Surgery at the same time as my TT?
Avatar f tn d never recommend phentermine, even though it does work for weight loss. The problem is that when people stop taking it, they almost always gain back everything they lost, plus some.
Avatar n tn The Thyroid Disorders Community is a great place to be as you work through stabilizing your medication regimen. I have the priviledge of knowing several of the members in this community and have found them to be most knowledgeable, caring, helpful and supportive. There is also an excellent Thyroid Tracker available as well! I see you are struggling with some weight issues, which can be common with various thyroid disorders.
Avatar n tn I am 42 yrs old and my medications include Toprol, Simvistatin, and now recently added both Loestra and Synthroid 25 mg. for an enlarged thyroid. Since starting the BC and SYnthroid, I have gained about 10 lbs. I know that some of it is inactivity in the winter, but I don't normally gain like this. I started the Synthroid in November, and feel MUCH better.
Avatar n tn Has anyone here suffered from rashes due to imbalanced thyroid levels or because of to much medication? I thought we had bed bugs but after searching and turning up nothing I searched the web http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art24839.asp This is crazy I have 13 hives/bites on stomach and hip they itch like crazy! Driving me insane... I am getting my blood done again next week so I guess that will tell if I am getting to much medication.
460348 tn?1213452322 Hey Brenda .. sorry on the wt. there is a group on the wt loss and dieting forming for us thyroid weight gainers!
Avatar f tn T4 is a prohormone and less active when compared to T3 - this is the reason why many patients with hypothyroidism on Synthroid fail to lose the excess body weight. For increasing the basal metabolic rate (BMR) which is required for weight loss, T3 is more important than T4. Higher your T3 levels, the better your BMR. Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day.
Avatar f tn Oops --- I meant hypO/Hashi's NOT hypER/Hashi........sorry about that.
Avatar m tn m sure there are plenty of people who just take it and wait for the weight loss. I am on a combo of T3 and Synthroid and I have adjusted till my levels all evened out in labs. I am at my ideal dose now. Still gaining, though I am reading a ton of info on fluid retention and may try to focus on that. I have read contless stories of health nuts on Syntroid who work out, do Yoga etc, and can't lose weight. I wonder..
Avatar n tn I am one of many who has experienced weight gain on Synthroid. I was nearly 49 last year when I started it at 50mcg. After 6 months, my doctor asked why I gained 8 lbs and based on blood results raised my dose to 75. Last week, now nearly 50, I have gained 16 pounds total. The last time that happened was Freshman year of college.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is a "Pregnancy Category A." Which is safer than Tylenol (which is a "B"). But you should always confirm all medications with your doctor. Are you on Synthroid for thyroid issues or weight loss? He'd probably keep you on for thyroid problems, but with pregnancy, weight loss isn't safe.
Avatar f tn Synthroid is not for weight loss purposes however, if your labs show that you are hypothyroid then finding the right dosage of synthroid should eventually eliminate your symtpoms of hypothyroid and create the optimal conditions for the opportunity for you to lose weight with diet and excercise, the drug by itself is NOT a weight loss drug but is used specifically to treat hypothyroid... once you are at an optimal level and feeling good then you can work towards your weight loss goals..
Avatar n tn ve looked at some of the weight loss pills and even tried hoodia, but it did nothing for me. I do know that some of the weight loss pills can cause rapid heart rate and other things, so could be dangerous. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks to all.
