Common Questions and Answers about Too much synthroid weight loss

synthroid

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease when I was 19 years old - I had a total thyroidectomy in May 2005. In January of this year, I started dieting and including exercise in my daily routine. I have lost a little over 50 lbs. The past two weeks, I have been having angioedema and hives, feeling gittery and experience mood swings. I had blood work done earlier this week and have been moved from 110 mcg to 125 mcg. Can you explain the change in dosage?
Avatar f tn re getting too much T3 is to have free T3 (FT3) tested regularly. Too much T3 usually causes hyperthyroid symptoms (anxiety, weight loss, insomnia, heart palpitations or tachycardia, intolerance to heat. etc. - although these can vary). T3 is about four times more powerful than T4, so it can also get you into trouble that much faster. When on a T3 med, it's doubly important to test FT3 along with FT4 and TSH.
Avatar f tn i've posted in the past. female, 31, silent thyroiditis diagnosed in may 2008, synthroid 112 initially...tapered to 88 about 6 months ago. i feel like i'm on too much meds...having some symptoms. had tsh tested a couple of days ago and it is low (they didn't tell me what it was...just that it was low). i have a 6 month appointment at the end of this month. the doctor told me to wait until my appointment to discuss a different dose.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar n tn Finally, living proof that a body can lose weight on Synthroid! You are my hero! I had begun to think it was physically impossible to lose weight any more! Hopefully, you were wanting to lose weight. Synthroid doses are often based in part on body weight. If you have lost weight, you could need a dose adjustment. Hope your doc orders some blood tests for you, sounds like you might be having hyper symptoms. Have a good weekend.
Avatar f tn My doctor only tests my TSH level and two and half weeks ago it was 21 on Sept. 20th, 2011. That is when I went from 88mcg to 112mcg. My symptoms started going on two weeks ago. And my doctor's office acts highly unusual regarding my labs. They rarely show me or even tell me my TSH level. They simply have constantly changed my medicine for nearly three years at some points every 6 weeks.
1052292 tn?1274457092 It sounds like you were overmedicated, and therefore hyper, on 100 mcg. Dosage is somewhat weight-based, and your weight loss might have made it just a bit too much for you. I understand your concerns about going back to 100 mcg, and I wouldn't want to, either. There are alternatives. Jumping from 100 to 50 is most likely going to make you hypo before too long. That's too big a jump.
Avatar m tn My wife was diagnised as hypothyroid several years ago, although she had no antibodies. She started taking 75 MCG of Synthroid, and has been taking it ever since. Despite irregular periods, she was able to get pregnant and he had a healthy baby (she continued the synthroid thruogh pregnancy and her levels were normal). However, 14 months after the baby was born she is exhibiting many sympoms of HYPERthyroidism -- sleeplessness, weight loss, and significant anxiety.
Avatar f tn at my last appt I weight 126 lbs... I have gained 20 lbs already!!!! I asked my Dr if I was gaining too much weight too fast and he said he advises women to gain 25 -30 lbs during the entire pregnancy.. but since I was under weight to begin with he wasnt too concerned.. and if I was worried I could walk.. aaaaanyways.. I am still nervous about it .
Avatar f tn a few months ago I was feeling horrible again (hair falling out, dry skin, exhausted) and then started putting on weight. It turns out, my tsh levels are off the charts and T3 is too low to even measure. My doctor took me off the cytomel last week. I am a fitness and diet instructor and have put on four pounds this week. I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help!
Avatar n tn You have described all the classical symptoms of emotional eating. Although your medications may be making it more difficult to lose weight, they are not the cause of your weight gain. The only way I know to stop the habit of emotional eating is to understand why you eat too much when you know you shouldn't. My book and my website can help you solve this problem. You'll have to do some work with the program will guide you through the work step by step. The website is www.
Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar n tn These are not likely synthroid side effects, but too much thyroid can cause GI symptoms and less likely ear/jaw pain -- doubt the goiter would have suddenly regrown to cause pain. Would recheck labs in 4 weeks or if symptoms worsen in meantime ask your doctor about the synthroid dosing. Long term use of meds like nexium may increase thyroid requirements, so the higher dose may work out well in that regard.
Avatar f tn Today I worked out for 45 minutes and felt good. I love to workout , but unfornutately, my wrists hurt too much to lift weights. Carpul Tunnel or whatever is hurting my wrists suck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken too much Synthroid? Too much that it made you hyperthyroid? What symptoms did you have and for how long?
Avatar f tn I think I am getting too much Synthroid. I have recently made some lifestyle chages (mainly cutting out fluoride sources--from drinking water and dental products). In the past 7 months, my doctor has reduced my Synthroid dose down from 150 to 137 to 125 to 100(just this week). My most recent TSH test came back at .288 this week--the previous TSH test was .18. I don't know my t3 and t4 numbers--I have an endo appointment next week.
