Avatar n tn Strokes usually present over the course of several hours and involve a plethora of neurological symptoms, like confusion, difficulty speaking, memory loss, sudden lethargy, tingling or numbness down one side of the body, and sometimes a sharp pain in the head. Should ever experience these symptoms collectively, get yourself to an ER immediately because some the damage done by a stroke can be reversed if anti-coagulants are administered within 3 - 4hrs of the clot developing.
Avatar f tn The most concerning cause of numbness on one side of the body is a stroke, as you mentioned. Please understand I am not trying to imply you have a stroke, but only that this is one possibility. Strokes occur predominantly in people with risk factors: smokers, high cholesterol, diabetics, hypertensives, and people over the age of 55. However, they can occur in any age.
Avatar m tn Like if an area of the brain is affected, it causes certain results peripherally. In the absence of this, it is difficult to say that the symptoms are due to TIA or stroke. Many times with TIAs the imaging studies do not pick up any positive findings. If your symptoms persist or recur consult your doctor. Regards.

Avatar n tn Hi, did you developed the symptoms after stopping therapy with tizanidine or during tratment with tizanadine. Your symptoms are suggestive of hypertonia which is one of the withdrawl symptoms with this medicine as this drug may produce dependence. Tizanadine is muscle relaxant, acting at the level of brain and usually given in cases of back pain, spasms etc. It is unlikely to have stroke with this drug. But its withdrawl can cause muscle spasm or hypertonia.

1310611 tn?1279927443 Is losing balance and falling to one side a stroke symptom? I have had several experiences of losing balance and falling to my right side. Grabbing a door was the only thing keeping me from falling. I have fallen to the same side while trying to get out of a chair. I have also had several episodes that made me feel like I was standing with one leg on an incline and the other side much lower like I was standing on a hill parallel to the incline. Any info would be appreciated.

Avatar n tn Tim My mother, 91 years old had a massive stroke is right side paralyzed and cannot speak. I believe she is in much worse shape than your grandmother who can move her arm/leg and respond to you. They told me that my mother would never speak again and that I was facing "end of life issues." Well that was 4 years ago. I don't think the Drs. can predict much of anything. Don't give up hope and stay involved with your grandmother and her care. Read a lot of the posts on this site...

580765 tn?1274922960 I have noticed no correlation between the occurrence of the episodes and any other conditions, other than the progression of the stroke- like symptoms in and around the time of the racing episodes. A neurologist that I saw Tuesday ruled out MS and other neurological conditions, based on several clear MRIs, nerve conduction tests, and lumbar puncture results. He said that all of my symptoms were likely due to an electrial misfire in my heart.
