Common Questions and Answers about Stroke symptoms during pregnancy

stroke

151668 tn?1239921105 I had a small (lasting no longer than 15 minutes) episode yesterday where I lost peripheral vision and saw fuzzy, colorful "twinkly" stuff above and to the side of my eyesight. I could see things when I looked at them straight ahead, but that's about it. My friend, whose husband is a retired doctor said I should go to the hospital, which I made an appt with my doctor today. She asked another friend (who is an ophthalmologist) about it, and he said it sounded like I had a TIA.
Avatar n tn Your risk for stroke is highest during the 6 weeks after delivery, not during pregnancy. And I only know this because I have a history of stroke. My doc will put me on anticoagulants after delivery for 6 weeks to combat that risk, should I get pregnant again. But, again, I've had a stroke already, otherwise it wouldn't be a concern. I hope you end up feeling better soon.
407961 tn?1202013647 my stroke was caused by birth control pills(bcp) as well. I take Plavix and was wondering if it is safe to take during pregnancy. It is important for you to maintain your blood thinners b/c if your stroke was caused by the estrogen in the BCP's, your blood needs to be thin so the estrogen from the pregnancy won't cause more blood clots....my Dr.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar n tn   I was just wondering, what do you do during a mini stroke? Do you get up and start walking around to get the blood flow going, (that's what I do), or do you sit down and relax? It's crazy that this mini stroke came back into my life! I had it come and go for about six months when I was younger back in 2006. When it happened back then, my whole right side of my body was paralyzed.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy and the changing hormones may cause pregnancy-related symptoms like dizziness, migraine and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea or vomiting especially during the first months of pregnancy. It would be best to discuss this with your doctor on your next prenatal consult. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Two close relatives of my dad died recently with the symptoms of stroke/heart attack. They did go to see the doctor immediately but didn't make it. So, I would like to know what a person should do when a person suspects that somebody is having a heart attack or a stroke in addition to calling the doctor while they reach the hospital. Thank you!
Avatar n tn There would not be any evidence of stroke in her bloodwork. Who told you that? You look at the signs and symptoms. Not the darned bloodwork and MRI. I would have had your internists licence...well I'll stop...let's just say he was working abiove his pay grade and should have referred you to a stroke center instantly. Who told you "there is no evidence of stroke"? Obviously he recieved medical training in lower Ghana, and served in internship in Nigeria.
Avatar n tn The next day he woke up with the same symptoms as the stroke 6 years ago and we assumed he had another stroke. The MRI, CTScan shows no new stroke, but his symptoms continue and he doesn't seem to be getting much better. He has lost his job due to the memory loss issues. Any thoughts on what could have happened? We are seeing a neuropsychologist.
Avatar f tn ll notice that my right pupil is larger than the left. Should I be worried that these are like stroke symptoms or something else? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Had a pregnancy stroke (due to toxemia/hypertension) and seizure when I was 18. No effects from either. It is now 17 years later and I had some dizziness so I had an MRI done in March 2008. The findings from the MRI at age 18 (1992): lateral ventricles are slightly large for someone at this age 2 to 2.5 cm wedge shaped area of low density involving the right superolateral frontal cortex consistent with an infarct there.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed Bradycardia 8 yrs ago & MS 20 yrs ago. No symptoms with bradycardia (rest 53/sleep 47) except missed/extra beats, no dizziness, pain or tiredness apart from MS related. MS is benign, I have no disability do not smoke & am not over weight. I am 49 yrs old. I would not call myself fit & do no formal exercise. Cardiologist said carry on as normal. I avoid caffeine and adrenaline in medication as they give me palpitations. My questions, 1.
Avatar f tn I had a stroke DURING my decompression, but havent heard of someone having a stroke because they have chiari.
Avatar f tn I'm 21 weeks haven't had any symptoms besides being tired lol
Avatar f tn Enjoy every moment and be grateful everyday you will miss it I promise you and this is coming from someone who had a difficult pregnancy and almost a stroke because my blood pressure sky rocketed
Avatar n tn Excerpts from Magnesium During Pregnancy. How Important is it?... "The most obvious and severe symptom of deficiency of magnesium in pregnancy is the HUGE problem of preeclampsia or eclampsia- also known as 'Toxemia of Pregnancy'. About 7% of pregnant women end up diagnosed with eclampsia or preeclampsia.
Avatar f tn I never ever ever experienced any of these symptoms until I became pregnant. They scare me because I see that these symptoms can be a sign of a brain tumor or aneurysm or stroke. I went to a neurologist and she said she didn't see any reason to do any emergency testing. She said that she has seen these things in pregnant women before. Idk, I'm just scared I've developed something serious during pregnancy and the doctors don't want to do anything because of baby.
Avatar f tn Do you ever wish there was some sort of inhaler we could take when we feel an anxiety attack/symptoms coming on, just something to stop it in its tracks so we can think logically about the cause of our symptoms instead of fast forwarding to "I've got......heart problems, cancer, MS, about to have a stroke" I suppose I can only dream......
Avatar n tn I am 29 years old, 1 pregnancy (2 years old now) Last week I was diagnosed with PFO - ekg reading was a little strange as well - having stress test on the 12 of this month for further information. I have random chest pains with my case, that are pretty intense (followed by numbing of arm, shoulder and neck from time to time). Cardiologist states my pains are not related to the PFO? any ideas on that?
580765 tn?1274919360 I have noticed no correlation between the occurrence of the episodes and any other conditions, other than the progression of the stroke- like symptoms in and around the time of the racing episodes. A neurologist that I saw Tuesday ruled out MS and other neurological conditions, based on several clear MRIs, nerve conduction tests, and lumbar puncture results. He said that all of my symptoms were likely due to an electrial misfire in my heart.

Avatar f tn I have had some chest pain but it is not related to the walking (in fact, it seems to lessen during exercise) but last night I had a hard time completing my 45 mins. After stopping, I had several episodes over the next hour of profuse sweating and then freezing. I have also had some episodes in the last week or so of weakness in left arm and leg. It just feels like major fatigue of the muscles on that side.
