Common Questions and Answers about Stroke symptoms in pregnancy

stroke

Avatar f tn ll notice that my right pupil is larger than the left. Should I be worried that these are like stroke symptoms or something else? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Had a pregnancy stroke (due to toxemia/hypertension) and seizure when I was 18. No effects from either. It is now 17 years later and I had some dizziness so I had an MRI done in March 2008. The findings from the MRI at age 18 (1992): lateral ventricles are slightly large for someone at this age 2 to 2.5 cm wedge shaped area of low density involving the right superolateral frontal cortex consistent with an infarct there.
Avatar m tn this is not something to take lightly. Please get checked, as this type of symptoms are indicative of having had a stroke. This happened in my family. More and more damage is done when not treated asap.
Avatar f tn ll be over before you know it lol my pregnancy ended 3 weeks earlier than expected and I was in great deal of shock and still in disbelief because it didn't happen how I thought it would happen.

Avatar f tn My daughter had a stroke in her thalamus at age 17 and is still having headaches 2 years later... every day... any ideas for treatment or diagnosis??? Her doctor says that it is migraines and the two are not related. It seems like too much of a coincidence to me. Can a stroke cause persistent headaches and what is the treatment????
Avatar f tn I am no professional but this seems like a stroke. A stroke is when blood is lost in one side of the brain causing dizziness, loss of motor skills, confusion, blurred vision, and other symptoms. I am not trying to scare you but a stroke is rather serious. Do some research and if you think the symptoms match up force her to see a doctor.
Avatar f tn Oh and after my stroke all I think about most of the time is of the stroke, having another stroke, or dying due to a stroke. I guess I am traumatized now. Does anyone else suffer from this?
Avatar m tn Certain medical conditions need to be considered like a transient ischemic attack, stroke, alzheimer’s disease and depression. Once stroke and TIA are ruled out, she may be assessed by a psychiatrist depending on the protocols in the hospital. Take care.
Avatar f tn stopping alcohol intake can improve the ataxia but if it is severe, some permanent symptoms may remain. In patients with cerebellar stroke, with intensive physical and occupational therapy over weeks to months, symptoms may become minimal and may even resolve completely.
Avatar n tn I hope the hospital scanned his head to see if he did indeed have a stroke, and if they have not, by golly they need to! Also, I am wondering if he was in some kind of accident before this happened to him, like even while working on the car, he may have wrenched his back. Sometimes if you hurt the thoracic spine, it'll make the chest hurt, and if he hurt his whole spine, it'll cause the tingling in his extremities and face.
Avatar m tn Sorry, thought i was addressing the Dr. I would appreciate it if anybody could weigh in on this as I am completely in the dark...
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm wondering if my symptoms are indicative of a mild stroke. I've had this same thing happen a couple of times over the last decade, with varying severity, the most recent incident being two weeks ago. I went to sleep with a headache and woke up extremely dizzy, hoping a couple more hours of sleep would make it go away, which it did not. A headache persisted for the next two days and after it was finally gone the mild dizziness and general weakness has persisted ever since.

Avatar m tn I am a 73-year-old female, generally in very good health with low risk factors for stroke or heart disease. Past hypertension and hyperlipidemia have been well-controlled with medication for more than ten years. In April 2011 my total cholesterol was 147; LDL 84; TG 85; HDL 46. Last week I suffered a cryptogenic stroke of the left temporal cortex that presented with garbled speech and difficulty drinking from a cup. (Both symptoms have since resolved completely.

Avatar n tn Many owners confuse the symptoms of a stroke in humans to a stroke in dogs. In fact, they are quite different.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy and the changing hormones may cause pregnancy-related symptoms like dizziness, migraine and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea or vomiting especially during the first months of pregnancy. It would be best to discuss this with your doctor on your next prenatal consult. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Has anybody experienced stroke symptoms? All day Saturday my left arm was kinda numb and tingling and the that night out of no where the tingling went up my neck to my face, my lips and tongue went numd, got hot and my heart was beating fast...laid down and it went away.
Avatar n tn Your risk for stroke is highest during the 6 weeks after delivery, not during pregnancy. And I only know this because I have a history of stroke. My doc will put me on anticoagulants after delivery for 6 weeks to combat that risk, should I get pregnant again. But, again, I've had a stroke already, otherwise it wouldn't be a concern. I hope you end up feeling better soon.
Avatar n tn She is now off of chemo and has contacted hospice. The doctors seem to think she had a minor stroke. Signs include slurred speech and difficulty in balance. Is this common for cancer patients or something more. She is taking morphine for the pain, but they seem to think it isn't that. She didn't take any the last couple of days, yet the symptoms are still there.
Avatar f tn Strokes can cause many clinical findings including weakness, numbness, changes in cognition, etc, depending on the location of the stroke. An MRI of the brain is a very useful modality to identify strokes. If indeed there was a structural lesion (i.e., stroke), it should be seen on the MRI. However, MRIs are only so specific and sensitive for detecting strokes. I agree your son should continue following up with the neurologist. Neuroimaging would be useful.
Avatar n tn She has the symptoms of a stroke, specifically a slow bleed, and should probably have been placed on vitamin K. This is a liklihood, not a certainty. Bleeds cause gradual degradation of sentience and sensation and ability. Clots tend to cause abrupt changes. There are other etiologies, hoever. There would not be any evidence of stroke in her bloodwork. Who told you that? You look at the signs and symptoms. Not the darned bloodwork and MRI. I would have had your internists licence...
Avatar m tn Like if an area of the brain is affected, it causes certain results peripherally. In the absence of this, it is difficult to say that the symptoms are due to TIA or stroke. Many times with TIAs the imaging studies do not pick up any positive findings. If your symptoms persist or recur consult your doctor. Regards.
