Could my stroke-induced stuttering be permanent, since areas of my brain are 'dead' and simply 'rewired' due to speech rehab. ? I would say in general terms that loss of peripheral vision be it from glaucoma, stroke, retinal disease like retinitis pigmentosa or other causes is usually not something that can be rehabilitated. There are some new computer programs with vision simulators that try to help patients try to rehabilitate the use of lost peripheral vision mainly from stroke and there has be at least some encouraging, though limited, results with that.
Treatment of stroke depends on whether the stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic and on the underlying cause of the condition. The long-term goals of treatment include rehabilitation and prevention of additional strokes. In your uncle’s case it could be ischaemic or hemorrhagic stroke due to high BP. If it is a ischaemic infarct, anti platelet drugs, anti coagulants and thrombolytics are employed in the treatment. If it is hemorrhagic infarct the hematoma needs to be evacuated with surgery.
I did not develop Lymphodema after my cancer treatment but because I was having radiation to the bowel, I was seeing a physio for prevention techniques to stop it happening and if it did happen how to manage it. (I had my pelvic lymph nodes removed during my hysterectomy).
If you see your doctor and get him to refer you to a physiotherapist that is experienced in lymphatic drainage massage they will be able to show you and treat you with massage that you can actually do at home.

I'm a 50 year old male with a family history of heart disease and stroke and am trying to prevent it if possible. I exercise daily and maintain a healthy diet. Will this be good enough in the long run? I tend to worry about it too much because of the problems my parents had but I think my numbers are good. BP runs about 115/65 on average and my total cholesterol is about 100, HDL 45. My glucose is about 85 so hopefully this will keep me out of trouble.
My wife do not have teeth. She neer used dentures. After stroke she had swallowing problem. She also vomitted. She had problem with semi solid food too. Probably her Na and Cl levels were affected. She was given NaCL capsules before food. That solved her problem. She is 70. She had dementia. She prefers liquid foods. Please consult your doctor on these points. In case of my wife her speech is not affected.
Hi, it’s unlikely its stroke. It could be a bad dream. And everybody has these occasional stressful dreams. But if they occur repeatedly or are interfering with your sleep schedules, you can consult a sleep specialist. It could be a nightmare disorder. After reading the studies use one to back up your suggestion for an alternative treatment. Stroke can be caused by both clots and bleeds. Plavix is generally prescribed following a stroke from a clot. Often clots are caused by simple dehydration and inactivity. If you go off the Plavix keep well hydrated at all times with electrolytes.
Yes try perineal massage with some olive oil. I would Google it on how to do it. Laboring in water can also help with the prevention of tearing. They don't always cut you when you're delivering, they only do it if they feel they need to. When I had my son, I tore a little but I didn't even feel it tearing, and they just stitched me up afterwards, no big deal. I'm pregnant again, I'm trying to research on techniques to prevent tearing, but if it happens it happens.
I think it'll depend on alot of factors such as your oral hygiene, how often you go back for dental treatment, whether or not they feel that periodontal surgery is necessary or can be beneficial for further prevention of disease. I've had patients who've kept their teeth for quite awhile with great hygiene and frequent dental cleanings/check ups. I believe for one particular patient, he was coming in every 2-3 months for a dental cleaning.
