Common Questions and Answers about Stopping depo provera use

depo-provera

Avatar f tn Hello, There may be amenorrhea for several months or irregularity of periods after stopping the depo shots. If you want to try for conception, try having intercourse every month around your ovulation days as it is the best time for conceiving. Ovulation is the release of a single, mature egg from a follicle that developed in the ovary. It usually occurs regularly, around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle.

Avatar n tn If I were you I would check with my Dr. and consider stopping the Depo. There are many forums like this one for Depo. Good Luck to you.
Avatar f tn The time varies in every woman and can be from 2-3 months to 12-18 months .The length of time you use Depo-Provera usually has no effect on how long it takes you to become pregnant. If you are not on any contraceptive you can get pregnant any time. If you are still unable to conceive then you should visit your gynecologist for more queries and assistance. Keep me posted. Best luck and take care!
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
Avatar f tn about 10% of American females aged 15-19 years who use birth control use Depo-Provera, compared with 3% of women in the United States overall. Studies have contradicted the FDA warning. Women who stopped using DMPA experienced an average bone gain of 1.34% at the hip versus a loss of 0.19% for women who never took the drug. Spine density increased 2.86% for women who stopped using the drug, compared with an increase of 1.32% for nonusers.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo provera for a few years, in 1999 I went off of it and I got pregnant,I was thrilled untill I started bleeding, I went to the hospital and found out I had miscarried, I had tried to get pregnant since then and I was prescribed Clomid last year. I got pregnant again, but lost that baby at 9 weeks. it has been heartbreaking. i cry everyday. I know now that it was because of the Depo. I have a hard time when all of my friends around me are getting pregnant with no problem.
Avatar n tn How are all of you doing on the zero carb diet, and I hope the depo provera is finally getting flushed through your body. For those that gained after stopping Depo: The Depo-Provera is still in your system. It puts your body in a false state of pregnancy, thus the weight gain and bloated abdomen. What ever you do, DO NOT GO BACK ON DEPO PROVERA! There is more weight gain the second time around, and harder to loose.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
202436 tn?1326477933 I wasn't planning on using any birth control after I had Lily, we were just gonna go with natural family planning. Well at my doc appt today he suggested the depo provera shot may help with milk production since I'm having an issue with it due to anemia. I went ahead and got the shot becuase I figured it was worth trying to see if it WILL help AND with the anemia problems right now it's probably best that I elminate as much risk of pregnancy as possible for awhile.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...

Mittelschmerz is abdominal pain which may be felt during the process of ovulation .It is often accompanied with spotting.
Avatar f tn GOD **** depo provera. **** YOU ************. like you ladies i was COMPLETELY unaware of the side effects. I'm 5'2, 20 years old and alittle under 120 pounds (for now...cross your fingers), I have never been on birth control previous to this and i just got my first shot on 1/11/2010. My doctor did not inform me of the side effects, so i was all gung ho about getting it because it is afterall the most effective birth control on the market.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn Today its oct 23 and i am still bleeding . I dont know why provera is not stopping my bleeding. Is this the way it should work ? Please help me ... i am tired of using the pads.

Avatar n tn It took an additional year after stopping the depo to get my period to stop. I am 23 now and since then I have had heavy clotting and periods and sometimes I have my period for a month or more at a time. My doctor tells me nothing appears to be wrong but the lengthy - heavy periods are a major pain... Anyone who is curious I highly recommend staying off of the depo shot...
Avatar f tn I recently just got my first depo provera injection and my period won't stop, it's been almost 11 days now. My period is normally, before the depo shot, 7 days and that's it. Is this normal during the depo or should I call my doctor. Help!
Avatar n tn I don't like what the depo has done to my body, affecting me worse than pregnancy ever did, and I would not recommend the depo shot for any reason. Even though all my problems occurred upon stopping use of the depo, I would hope someone doesn't wait for serious problems (as other women have had) to occur while using the depo to stop use of said, or potentially making problems worse or longer lasting when finally having to come off.
Avatar n tn Jaundice Blood clots Severe allergic reaction Infertility Severe depression Heavy or prolonged vaginal bleeding Additionally, there is conflicting evidence to suggest that use of depo-provera may increase your risk of breast and cervical cancer, although no definite conclusions have yet been drawn.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera messes with your hormones and either you can bleed constantly once stopping or not bleed at all. It can take about 12-18 months to get out of your system (however this is not true for everyone, some get pregnant the 1st month they stop the shot). I was bleeding constantly while on the shot and as soon as it was time for me to get my next one I switched to BCP's. My dr said this was fine and it would help my periods become regular after the depo.
Avatar n tn Now i am waiting for my gynecologist appointment to come through.I am so worried at the moment.I am sure it is because of Depo Provera AND NOT CANCER.I told her that i have read a lot of reviews of woman who had the sam on going bleeding for months, but she kind of ignored that. I just wonder how will they stop that bleeding? When it is going to stop?
Avatar n tn dose anyone no any thing about Depo-Provera aka the shot and what some woman can get with periods and if a dark brown with a little hint of orange dicharge is normal?
Avatar n tn I used to use the Nuva Ring prior to the switch. Also, for those of you who have been using this type of bc for awhile, how do you like it? I'm still trying to get used to taking a pill daily, I've only had to double up twice so far. Thanks in advance for your feed back.

Avatar n tn Paxil does not affect your period. Depo Provera however can stay in your system 12-18 months (maybe longer) after your last shot. Are you trying to conceive? If so you may want to talk to your dr about Paxil Cr...because it is a category C drug. Also you can take Provera to jumpstart your periods. Talk to your OB/GYN about it.
