sneeze

Avatar f tn Poor soul. I had the cough too. I stopped oxycodone (daily; prescribed for pain) that I had taken for 8 years, pretty much cold turkey. The cough started around the 30th day and it was AWFUL. I coughed constantly, and it freaked me out completely. I was convinced I was dying of some awful disease. I had chest xrays, EKG, the works. All normal. The cough lasted months but it DID GO AWAY. When you take opiates for a long time, it suppresses your cough reflex.
Avatar f tn 14) ive read that it psychological so bc i think of it i dont sneeze bc of some reflex. I've tried pepper. Looking at the sun. steam. snorting water. plucking my eyebrows near eyelids. Please I'm going crazy. I need to sneeze. I just want to sneeze.
Avatar m tn If I feel a sneeze coming on, I will either look at the sun or a bright light in a room. I rarely sneeze in a low light situation. My doctor thinks I am nuts, as does my opthamologist. However, my Mom did this (but not my Dad) and both of my daughters do it too. My Mom says that her Mom did it as well. It's very strong reflex and completely uncontrollable. Does anybody else have this or know what it is about? I've always called it "light sneezing.
Avatar m tn Occurence of this doesn't seem very predictable as I can quite comfortably watch TV in the dark, use candles or sit in the sun with no sign of any problem most of the time (except the occasional photic sneeze reflex). Most often the symptoms stop before complete blindness and vomiting occur but I have suffered complete blindness twice and vomiting twice. My tactile sense also seems to be diminished somewhat as well during these episodes.
Avatar f tn [ So, what I am proposing is that people with the electrical type of PATM may cause something similar to the person on the other end of the phone, just as the sun causes people to sneeze. The sun itself does not "send down" a particle that makes the person sneeze, it is all electrical signals/waves.
Avatar n tn Hi, The function of the sneeze reflex is to dislodge foreign matter or irritating material from respiratory passages. The source of irritation that initiates the sneeze reflex is in the nasal passages. Weather change by itself will not cause sneezing. What is probably happening is the load of pollen-common allergen-might be very high at that particular time. The pollen level can be quite different in various areas of a particular city or area.
Avatar m tn I started a hacking cough on day 14, and even though it has died down considerably, every evening, I cough and hack up clear sputum (yuk). Opiates suppress our cough reflex and LOTS of stuff builds up in our lungs. It will take time, maybe months, to clear out. I still sneeze constantly too. What else....I have stomach issues--severe IBS---and have not had ANY kind of comfort in terms of my GI tract. I'm either constipated or have diarrhea...every time I eat is a new adventure...
Avatar n tn I have noticed that it also really speeds up after I sneeze or after drinking alcohol... not heavy drinking just a glass of wine. Thank you all for posting.
Avatar n tn Sometimes an up going movement of the larynx just before a belch is said to be an act of air swallowing. But each belch reflex is preceded by a rising of the larynx. That's part of the reflex because it makes the way clear for the up going content. Look in the mirror or put one hand on the larynx, and observe on what exactly happens in the here-and-now, without influencing... Then you'll observe it's a reflex and no strange maneuver or act of swallowing.
Avatar n tn So I am wondering if the cold liquid is triggering a nerve or muscular reflex that leads to immediate irritation and coughing. Another thought I had was that maybe the composition of the water, and especially the ice, has in it some kind of irritant. What made me think of that is a memory of eating/drinking Ice Pops as a kid (those multi-colored sugary liquids sealed in plastic tubes that you freeze) and it having a similar effect of tickling my throat and making me cough.
620923 tn?1452919248 You know you have chiari when you can't lay on your stomach and prop your head on your a arms to read (or lay in the sun) because it feels like a ceiling fan us going off inside your head. When you are constipated it feels like your head will explode instead. This is th only place you can really tell how you feel and Selma became your new BFF. Everyone around you at work thinks your okay because they can't see the ailment and you just don't know how you are going to do another hour.
Avatar n tn it is an awful feeling as the start to dissolve. But it is causing gag reflex response, which is quite annoying. The worst part is, vomiting does not relieve the issue. I have tried nasal irrigation, hot liquids and hit spoons against the lower portion of my soft palate, and many other crazy things. As disgusting as it sounds I actually had a piece of a capsule some out when I blew my nose once. I am at my whits end with this.
436516 tn?1382388265 The attacks disappeared at that time, only to return when the sun came out again. I have allergy-induced asthma and inhale Asmanex once a day. That treatment seems to help one type of cough which I can easily live with. From time to time if I contract bronchitis, which I'm currently taking an antibiotic for, my cough is different, with plenty of phlegm (I also suffer from post nasal drip.) But the worst cough is the Tickle Throat Cough.
Avatar n tn I love cinnnamin so I bought cinnamin toothpaste and mouth wash and removed the mint form the shower. The final inidciation of mint problems is my sun tan lotion contains salicitate the main ingredient that the mint family is in. My back of the legs were very ichy and irritated from the lotion, dry skin and the alow with menthol I put on afterwards. Does this sound like a mint or salicitate allergy?
620923 tn?1452919248 Let's see.... extreme ear pain which feels like red-hot ice picks have been stuck in my head through the ears. bladder pain/pain on urination... comes and goes. Just wierd. The mazillion cricket chorus in my ears, but very lightly. There's a couple more, but can't think of them right now!
Avatar n tn hi i too have had similar pain, it started about 6 months ago, the pain is mostly in the upper left area of my back, under the shoulder blade. when i take a deep breath i can feel it. also, when i sneeze it feels like theres a bubble in my back about to burst and i get a sharp pain. lately, my neck has been sore, just on the left side almost like a crick from sleeping in a draft. my left shoulder hurts when i lift my hand above my head or stretch it out in front of me.

Avatar m tn This involves you being able to ignore your gag reflex a bit. 1. Pour some minty fresh Listermint into a small cup, just enough that you can dip your right index finger (if you are right handed) into it. This disinfects (somewhat, assuming you also washed your hands first) and lubricates your finger. 2. Where you feel the rice/food is stuck, put your finger there at the very back and top of your throat (it should be a soft palate, not the hard palate of your mouth...
Avatar n tn Yawning is a neural and muscular reflex mechanism that occurs from the brain stem. Is it possible that a virus could damage that mechanism? We've got so many new viruses from mutation and they've been know to affect every part of our body. Also, apparently yawning may be controlled by the hypothalamus, through neurotransmitters and hormones. Maybe it might be time to see a neurologist to see if you have any luck there..
Avatar m tn A cold usually lasts for a week, sometimes two weeks, or more for some nasty strains, or if your immune system handles it well, only 2 or 3 days. A cold makes you sneeze, makes your nose run, stuffs up your nose, makes your throat rough or sore or hoarse, and you can get mild chills or fever, and you might get a headache, and you might just feel funky and tired and sick. Sometimes, a cold won’t cause any symptoms at all, and it will clear up in the same amount of time.
Avatar n tn i was mortified. and yea that thing smell like a tuna sandwich left out in the sun all day. barf. so i looked up everything on tss and came across this site and it was a relief. Avatar n tn Aloe Vera juice, Magnesium Orotate, ice on my neck, ice on my face, cold water on my face, Cayenne pepper, pound my chest, bear down, sneeze, cough, hot tea, cold tea, cry, breathing exercises, tapping, laser on heart meridian which is on your pinky finger between tip & below nail of pinky, lay down, stand up, you name it, I've done it, tried it. Sometime they work, sometimes they don't. There's no rhyme or reason to A Fib.
Avatar n tn I have seen specialists in every field, and have been tested for everything under the sun without ANY success. Honestly, I have had every breathing test imaginable (several times), ultrasounds of my heart, and every organ in my abdominal, CT's and MRI's of brain and spinal chord, allergy testing, a visit with 2 different ear nose and throat specialists to check for vocal chord disfunction, chiropractor visits, massages, and adustments with a D.O.
