Skelaxin for muscle spasms

Common Questions and Answers about Skelaxin for muscle spasms

skelaxin

Avatar f tn t work for me, however, it works quite well for my dad (who has a back problem with muscle spasms). Flexeril works pretty well for me, but like you, it makes me VERY sleepy. My prescription for it calls for three a day - but believe me, if I were to take 3 in a day, I wouldn't get out of bed! I've also tried Soma and that also worked pretty well for me and was not as sedating (for me anyway) as the flexeril.
Avatar m tn Skelaxin I got prescribed when I got in a car accident for a muscle relaxer, It didnt really do much of anything but make me feel like gumby, drunk and out of it. Its not for chronic or severe pain BUT it is for MUSCLE pain, like muscle spasms. From being a former EMT (Paramedic) I know it works in the brain to help with the relaxation of muscle pain, its also used for physical therapy with people with back problems.
Avatar m tn It is habit forming. Again, it is ONLY for muscle spasms or any other muscle problem. It will NOT help with the pain in your back. I suggest you call your doctor and ask for something else. There are several muscle relaxers that are not habit forming and work for that issue. Let us know how you are doing and what you decided.
585414 tn?1288941302 My neurologist and I agree that I have built up a tolerance to the Flexaril I take for a wide variety of spasms from advanced tardive dyskinesia (please note I take it responsibly as prescribed) and the dystonic and dysphagic spasms have come back. For a long while the Flexaril along with Methocarb and Skelaxin (which I still take) worked. But then it began to stop.
Avatar n tn after surgery for my rotator cuff tear, i also experienced muscle spasms and my dr. prescribed percoset for them it is a narcotic so it tends to relax you and make you drowsy but it helped! good luck!
198419 tn?1360242356 Thanks you guys! I'll be talking w/ Dr today I hope. I have chosen Copaxone. With my school and ER schedule, it will fit the best. As far as the cramping goes... it has calmed down to a constant tight muscle so I think it's getting better. I'm going to request a RX for Skelaxin (Methocarbamol) to help. It's a non narcotic/sedating muscle relaxer I can take during the day. I'm also considering trying samples of that med to help w/ fatigue... Provigil?
Avatar m tn I definetly recommend adding a muscle relaxer if you have muscle pain. I have severe muscle spasms and I am really hurting without a muscle relaxer. Flexeril is also a good one, but that one will make you very sleepy at first. I eventually got used to it to the point that it didn't make me sleepy, but it took a while of taking halves. I tend to adjust to medication really quickly, though.
387113 tn?1313512083 Believe it or not, I mentioned this to my Rheumatologist the other day. She said that "cramps" CAN be relieved by Quinine. The old, tried and ture method. But she didn't say this was for the spasms caused by MS. This is for those muscle cramps that wake you up in the middle of the night, making you jump out of bed screaming. I guess it's trying to figure out what is a cramp and what is a spasm. I have found nothing that truly takes care of the spasms.
Avatar f tn 2010 severe abdominal pain effecting all quadrants began. 2011 I began having muscle spasms, and jerking in the limbs and jaw. According to the doctors, I have Knee Clonus, hyperflexia, and Hoffman's sign. Findings: All symptoms will last for months at a time, and then ease up and then continue. I have seen several physicians including a Neurologist, Ob/GYN, GI, and a Rheumatologist. This is what they have found.
Avatar n tn I have had some kind of cold/flu, sinusitis (all in one) for about three weeks. Finally I went to the doctor she prescribes antibiotics, anticough medicine etc. I also developed somehow a muscle spams around my neck aparently due to excesive coughing. The pain became the worst ever to the point of tears. The doctor prescribed skelaxin 800mg, it didn't help, then I added 400mg Advil.. The pain somehow got better, but still there. So Went for Motrin 800mg with Skelaxin, didn't help.
402205 tn?1230481005 I will try to avoid them right now tho because they make me sluggish and I am already fatigued with my cut in dose of hydrocodne..anything can be abused...skelaxin is a fairly safe muscle relaxer.....
Avatar f tn Lyrica isn't made for muscle spasms, but for muscle soreness and neuropathy involved in FMS. Your thyroid could very well be causing some of the problems you describe...so could the diabetes and anemia. Until you get a clean bill of health (straightening out the thyroid, diabetes and anemia) you should only do low impact exercises (stretching or water aerobics is good). If you have not had an MRI done, that may be something to consider to rule out other illnesses that can mimic FMS.
Avatar m tn Wondering what there is for muscle spasms. I tried flexeril and zanaflex and they dont do anything. Is there something stronger out there and if so do you still stay awake. I'm on Vicoprofen right now but it's not to effective. I was going to ask my Doc about Norco to see what he thinks of that.
Avatar f tn Was given valium for spasms, does not help for that, but does calm me slightly. Ultram takes edge off. Could anxiety and stress cause all of this, to the point of becoming an invalid? One year ago I was an active functioning inividual who walked or worked out everyday. I admit I never had any muscle tone even before all of this....did it all just catch up to me???? Any help greatly appreciated! I want my life back!!!
Avatar m tn Hi about a year ago a had an injury at work that caused 2 herniated disks. I did the physical therapy for a while than realized I can do most of the pt stuff at home or at the gym. I am prescribed Celebrex and skelaxin. I have a question about the skelaxin. Well my job is physically demanding I work in a hospital I do patient care I "boost" patients, transport patients, help very unsteady patients get out of bed and walk. So quite often I need to take my skelaxin.
450140 tn?1317947304 Today, my neuro suggested i try SKELAXIN (muscle relaxer) for the spasams I am experiencing. I will start those tomorrow. It says take 3x a day, every 8 hours. And if need be a 4th one can be taken. Does this sound right ........every 8 hours?? Please tell me what you think. I pray that everyone is doing ok. This limboland is really taking its toll on me and my family. Have not worked since Jan. that is putting a strain on us finacially. Not to mention, all the worry about my health.
Avatar f tn oh and broke down and took a muscle relaxer. skelaxin. this shouldn't be a problem right? found an old script. ibuprofen was not cutting it.
585414 tn?1288941302 I understand some of these questions are complex but given that the tardive conditions cause respiratory convulsions and myoclonic spasms any idea that its been of some use would be of great help to me.
Avatar m tn I have had a headache for now 31 days in a row without any real relief. It started out (I think) with a stiff neck- Couldn't touch chin to chest) and the same day I started with a headache. They almost follow a pattern everyday, I wake up with it, it gets better after I'm up for awhile and almost gone into afternoon, but around 4 pm comes back and keeps going for the rest of the night (almost worse when I lay down).
Avatar m tn The muscle relaxer the dr gave me is Skelaxin. Anybody else ever try this. I read on drug ******* the reviews and some people said it really helped without making them dizzy like most of them do. Man I sure hope it helps so I can keep weening off the hydros.
Avatar m tn But I agree with everything else WeatherGirl said, also a benzodiazapine is not a good choice for a muscle relaxer, in my opinion. If its spasms that you get then I think Baclofen would be a better choice because its more of an anti-spasmatic more than just a muscle relaxer. I would think Flexerill or skelaxin etc. would be better for muscle tightness and soreness. Best of luck to you.
1066074 tn?1268318949 Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and have cried after reading all of your posts. It's upsetting and maddening that most of you were promised relief with surgery, only to be disappointed or worse off than before. It would seem that the doctors are straight out lying to people about the general outcome of surgery. I was told it had a 90% success rate by my doctor. According to all the people on these blogs, I would say it's more like a 99% failure rate!
Avatar f tn It does sound similar to my muscle spasms. What muscle relaxers are you on? I have more luck with cyclobenzaprene than skelaxin.
Avatar m tn Glad they at least gave you meds while you wait. I'm on norco 10/325 4x a day, but no muscle relaxers. Honestly I think that's where most of the pain is coming from (spasms) so I'm going to ask for some flexiril or skelaxin today, hopefully it will cut down on the pain and I won't be eating these Norco like candy. Mine doesn't flare up at night like yours, it's constant, sharp pain. I wake up in the morning and feel GREAT.
