Common Questions and Answers about Skelaxin exercise for low back pain

skelaxin

Avatar m tn Hi about a year ago a had an injury at work that caused 2 herniated disks. I did the physical therapy for a while than realized I can do most of the pt stuff at home or at the gym. I am prescribed Celebrex and skelaxin. I have a question about the skelaxin. Well my job is physically demanding I work in a hospital I do patient care I "boost" patients, transport patients, help very unsteady patients get out of bed and walk. So quite often I need to take my skelaxin.
Avatar f tn I know your frustration with exercise. I used to exercise all the time, 5 days a week. Now because of my knees and back problems (herniated discs) I can't even walk. I try to do some yoga and very light walking, like 10 minutes just to walk my dog. It's so difficult, I know.
Avatar m tn I had surgery 11 years ago, on L5-4, herniated disks!! Anyway, in November 2012, I started getting the numbness and pain, and my back would just LOCK up, so after 2 MR's and 2 CT scans, my neurosurgeon want a to operate and part of that is a fusion. Findings on last CT Scan: the vertebral body heights are maintained. 0.7 c. L-5 -S-1 degenerative anterolisthesis as well as 0.4 cm L-2 - L-3 retrolisthesis is noted. There is moderate L-5 - S-1 and severe L-4 -5 disk degeneration.
Avatar m tn I try to walk or jog daily but a few weeks ago I started getting pain in my low back (left side) that also causes some pain to my groin and left thigh. This pain comes and goes but depending on how I bend, turn the pain will always return. There are days that I can't exercise because of the discomfort. Any ideas as to what I did and what I need to do?
Avatar m tn 1:) the pain/nerve issues that I have, weather from the injury etc. 2:) My OCD nature, and anxiety are not helping. I have always been llike this, just in this case it is not helping me. I am trying the best I can to step back and take it easy but then the pain kicks in and down the crap shoot I go. He also thinks that it will help restore my balance, then ween off of it. I hate hate hate drugs. Especially after the research I did early on with Cymbalta...! ugh.
Avatar m tn Well I just got back from seeing my dr about the myleogram I had and they pretty much just said I had from L-1 to S-1 messed up and not much they can do. Take the pills and try the therapy and message for awhile and then let us know how your doing. I had got down to 1 1/2 a day through my weening process but my back was hurting the whole time. I think I am still going to try to keep cutting back and see if I can quit when I can take a few days off work.
Avatar m tn In general though muscle strain and tension from poor posture and stress can cause pain without much in the way of neurological or MRI findings. This could account for your low back pain. Gentle activity and getting some physical therapy could help. I cannot understand your chills. I would recommend that you see a good internist to look at you to make sure there is no hidden infection. Sinusitis and a URTI needs to be looked at as well.
Avatar m tn Low back pain is the pits. But there are lots of things that someone can do on their own at home to help. Stretching for one. The hamstring is often tight when someone has low back pain. Stretching the ham string muscles regularly will often relieve pain in the lower back. Stretching the low back muscles themselves helps. Light weight lifting and things like doing the super man mat move will strengthen the back overall and you need good ab muscles to help with good low back muscles.
Avatar n tn I have had some kind of cold/flu, sinusitis (all in one) for about three weeks. Finally I went to the doctor she prescribes antibiotics, anticough medicine etc. I also developed somehow a muscle spams around my neck aparently due to excesive coughing. The pain became the worst ever to the point of tears. The doctor prescribed skelaxin 800mg, it didn't help, then I added 400mg Advil.. The pain somehow got better, but still there. So Went for Motrin 800mg with Skelaxin, didn't help.
Avatar m tn My doc just gave me Skelaxin for my back pain and said it might help. I have been trying to cut back taking hydro and I don't want to take anything that is going to make me woosey. I started into therapy last week and it is really making my back hurt. The nurosurgeon I saw said I have from L-1 to S-1 messed up and he does not think surgery would help any. So he just said take the hydro because your not taking that many (only 3 a day 7.

I'm hoping that with a longer period of exercise and when my body starts to respond to pain properly I will have very little pain. I wish for success to everyone out there struggling to get their "old selves" back.
Avatar m tn I am an opiate addict (for effect) but do get bad lower back pain at night, probably from carrying 60 pounds on my small frame during pregnancy...and I am getting older. I do not get any effect that I find appealing and have never abused it even though I have access to it. Soma, however, is super potent. One of our friend's wives became addicted to opiates and soma and died of sn accidental overdose last fall. Granted, she was mixing lots of meds but Soma is highly addictive.
Avatar m tn No, it is not normal to have back pain from running. One possibility is unaccustomed exercise—so increase your pace slowly. Another possibility is wrong foot wear. So change the foot wear and see and buy good quality sports shoes means for running and jogging. Other than this you could have developed a slipped disc or suffering from spondylosis which ahs worsened by constant running. This needs to be ruled out through X-rays and MRI.
Avatar f tn I've suffered chronic back pain for 10+ years. I'm off all opiates now after being on them for more than 5+ years. I'm now taking lots of vitamins and minerals to promote and maintain my general well-being. My only prescription meds now are Amitriptyline (100 mgs @ bed) and Parafon Forte (4x per day). I just got a Spinal Cord Stimulator, which helps my sciatic pain, but my lower back pain is still pretty bad.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any good recommendations for helping dull the pain...I have tried all the antidepresants and tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and anticonvulsants and ibuprofen and naproxen and tramadol and all combos and I am feeling lost can't hardly move some days...please help with any suggestions.

Avatar f tn Plus soma for spasms. So confused!
450140 tn?1317947304 Today, my neuro suggested i try SKELAXIN (muscle relaxer) for the spasams I am experiencing. I will start those tomorrow. It says take 3x a day, every 8 hours. And if need be a 4th one can be taken. Does this sound right ........every 8 hours?? Please tell me what you think. I pray that everyone is doing ok. This limboland is really taking its toll on me and my family. Have not worked since Jan. that is putting a strain on us finacially. Not to mention, all the worry about my health.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if its normal for everybody, but I did have a lot of pain and tightness through my neck and shoulders while I was detoxing. The skelaxin is a very mild muscle relaxer and non-narcotic (I'm pretty sure), so shouldn't be a problem. May even help. Having DDD in the neck is going to leave you with some pain that may be exagerated in the first few weeks. give it just a little time to level out before you try to judge what your "normal" pain will be.
402205 tn?1230481005 I think my friend is hooked on benadryl! I have taken 5 mg flexeril for chronic back pain for years and never had any problems with it...I will try to avoid them right now tho because they make me sluggish and I am already fatigued with my cut in dose of hydrocodne..anything can be abused...skelaxin is a fairly safe muscle relaxer.....
Avatar f tn She x-rayed my knee and saw arthritis , which I knew was there. I have arthritis both kinds. Have taken 800 mg Ibuprofen for the pain, try not to take it often as I know it elevates BP and harmful to body. I also take aspirin, tylenol, and wear a Flector pain patch when it gets unbearable. I alternate with the pain meds dont take them the same days. The doctor put me on Tramadol for pain and made an appt. with my regular MD April 5th.
Avatar f tn I have had very severe back pain for about 7 months now ..Since seeing a pysiotheropist 3 months ago there has been tremendous improvement..I would recommend that you read the book ...7 steps to a pain free life ..by ROBIN MCENZIE as well as seeking a thereapist..regards Brenda ..
Avatar f tn not habit forming but if u take it every night u get kinda used to it...my brother takes it for migraines and i have it prescribed for back pain...also an AD in higher doses...hang in there...
Avatar m tn 4 years ago my low back locked up and I was getting sharp spasms after playing sports all day. It had happened once in college but had gone away. Well after a while, the low back pain went to neck pain, giving me headaches (which are the worst) and then thoracic pain. It was really bad but through chiropractic, anti-inflammatories, rolphing, massage, inversion, injections, PT (to name a few) it is doing much better but still constantly hurts in the thoracic area.
