Avatar f tn The main study for Simvastatin was the 4S trial which proved that the incidence rate for side effects at 40 mg of Simvastatin was 1 in 2,220 prescriptions. What is interesting is that the incidence rate in the placebo group was 1 in 2,223. Also muscle pain is a very common complaint and is a symptom of many conditions. Ed is correct about the half life, a normal 40 mg dose is out of your system within a day. Also, any side effects are usually gone in a couple days or a week at most.
Avatar m tn More importantly, I have been experiencing back pain for the past few months and would like to try CBD. I am down to sleep a few hours a night. (Hopefully, I can resolve the cause of the back pain but, in the meantime and in anticipation of requiring pain relief as I get older.
Avatar f tn Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.

Avatar n tn Hi, Simvastatin is generally well-tolerated and side effects are rare. Minor side effects include constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, heartburn, and headache. Major side effects include abdominal pain or cramps, blurred vision, dizziness, easy bruising or bleeding, itching, muscle pain or cramps, rash, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. ref:http://www.medicinenet.com/simvastatin/article.htm This could be an allergic reaction to the drug. It will stop if the drug is withdrawn.
620048 tn?1358018235 My elderly aunt just had to stop simvastatin due to sever back and leg pain. The pain was so bad that she was not steady on her feet, causing her to fall alot. Last monday it go so bad that I had to call her son to come pick her up and take her home with him. They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.
Avatar m tn Have you been on Simvastatin long? Side effects normally do not start after 90 days of use. Your other drugs may be causing the problem, especially the Neurontin which has concentration problems as a main side effect which can get worse the longer you take it. If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem.

Avatar f tn In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet..... Atorvastatin 10mg reduced LDL by 30-40% = equivalent to 20mg Simvastatin Atorvastatin 40mg reduced LDL by 46-50% = equivalent to 80mg Simvastatin Starting doses for each of the two statins are ....
Avatar n tn Not until I got on the cholesterol medication Simvastatin did I get Trigeminal Neuralgia. I refuse to take any anti seizure medications, the side effects are to dangerous. I take muscle relaxers and Advil as needed. After taking the statin drug Simvastatin I haven't been the same. I even got to the point that I was breathless. I took myself off the Simvastatin hoping the TN would go away, but it hasn't. I get half face headaches, throbbing, itching and can't be in the cold.
Avatar n tn Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
Avatar f tn I take Simvastatin with no side effects, and have for several years, and so does my husband, also no problems. It's done an excellent job of lowering both our cholesterols.
Avatar f tn The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints. I would take it and just keep an eye out for anything that may be a side effect. This link will tell you what to look for; http://www.emedicinehealth.com/drug-simvastatin/article_em.
428155 tn?1203688894 Take the simvastatin, but watch the side effects over the next months. They can be of various natures, and not always obvious (like my fibrillation). itdood, you wrote "no side effects. Tho at times I thought my muscles were getting sore." - The heart is a muscle. Keep that in mind. Madge270, diet is definitely the way to start.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar m tn I have not been able to tolerate any of the statin drugs due to the severe gastric distress they cause. This, in turn, will result in palpitations for me. I have lowered my cholesterol with plant sterols, exercise and diet.
Avatar m tn however, it is worth it if you have side effects. My side effects range from crawly skin to coughs to aching muscles. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn The overall incidence rate of side effects from statins is between 2% and 4% depending on what you read. The risk of serious side effects is only .042%, certainly a safe drug by any measurement. Again. please state your opinion but do not encourage others to go against their doctor's advice.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Hello, My name is Anatoly Petrov and I have I had a heart attack on 09/21/09. After my bare metal stents were clogged and I almost got another heart attack, a DES was placed inside those two. Since then I have been having chest pains. I am currently on Plavix, Aspirin, Simvastatin, Lisinopril and Carvedilol/Coreg/. Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up.
Tbd Hi there and thanks for your question and joining the forum. Please always check in with your doctor on these matters so they can guide you. Unusual tiredness and weakness is listed as a 'less common' side effect of Simvastatin. https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/simvastatin-oral-route/side-effects/drg-20069006. For most people it doesn't cause significant issues, however. With all medications, weighing risks and benefits to taking the medication must be done.
Avatar n tn My wife is taking Morphine and Oxycodone for chronic back pain from a vertebral fracture 2 years ago (repaired) and herniated disks. She is finding that her hair (which has always been very thick and healthy) is thinning dramatically. She is also taking Simvastatin and an anti-depressant, Citalopram, and an amphetamine for ADHD. Is hair loss a normal side effect of these meds, and, if so, what can be done to combat the problem?
Avatar m tn I would recommend asking your Dr or pharmacist if these are possible side effects. There could be another reason why you're gaining weight and your BP is up. You should'nt have any side effects from stopping this med but, your Dr put you on it for a reason. I take it you had high cholesterol numbers? See your Dr before you quit taking it. That's just my suggestion.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your suggestion. I looked up the side effects of Simvastatin today and many side effects sound like what my mother is complaining about. I told her to stop taking it for a few days to see what happens. I agree, her doctor is questionable. This is my first time using a forum and I'm finding it to be a lot of help. Thank you...
