Avatar m tn [0010] Use of simvastatin in the prevention of malignant diseases, especially liver cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma, has been previously unknown. According to the present invention, by administering simvastatin to patients with an existing liver condition, and by monitoring the level of alphafetoprotein, a liver tumor marker, the formation of liver cancer can be prevented.

Avatar n tn The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar m tn 5 or 2g 2g can lower healthy bacteria in the stomach of some so probiotics are suggested on the 2g dose of alinia and on simvastatin it is better to check main blood tests, liver tests and creatinine for kidneys every 6 months

As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
Avatar m tn I am a 62 year-old male who has been taking simvastatin for about 30 years. All of my cholesterol-related numbers are in a healthy range, and I have never experienced any serious side effects (e.g., muscle weakness, kidney and liver impairment, etc.). I have, however, had trouble sleeping for the past several years (perhaps caused by simvastatin, perhaps not). More importantly, I have been experiencing back pain for the past few months and would like to try CBD.
Avatar m tn Simvastatin is contraindicated in pregnancy and liver disease, according to Wikipedia. I also know that Cresor 40mg is not recommended for Asians. I would like to know why you believe simvastatin and or statin in geneal have ant-hbv activities? Have you heard of cases where statins cause acute liver failure in chronic hbv patients?
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar m tn using simvastatin it is necessary to keep checking alt/ast before and after use of it, although extremely rare it may happen that sim increases alt/ast and if increase is too much (alt>100) it may be necessary to stop it using vitamin d, although extremely rare it is better to check serum calcium every 3-4 month together with vitamin d 25oh, the max range of vit d is 100ng/ml if expensive you can skip calcium and just check vit D after 6 months
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.

907968 tn?1292622204 Actually, two recent studies done in Greece and China have confirmed that statin therapy has been shown to not have effects on the liver as once though, in fact those with abnormal liver function prior to statin treatment showed improvement in their liver function.

Avatar m tn I have been taking simvastatin for over 2 years to lower my cholesterol. I 've gained over 50 pounds, and I don't think the drug is doing what its supposed to do, I forgot to mention that, never before have I had "high blood-pressure" until now. I have stopped taking the drug in the hope that the pounds and the blood-pressure will return to "my" normal health state. My question is: what side affects or withdrawl symptoms should I expect?

Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. I take metformin for the diabetes and simvastatin for the cholesterol. Recently, (just the last few days), my ears have steadily grown in "fullness". It happens mainly at night when I lay down to sleep. Most times I just fall asleep and wake up fine. But tonight, when the fullness came on, I started feeling dizzy while laying down and that started a litlle anxiety episode and here it is 3+ hours later.
Avatar f tn Hello, You have not mentioned any thing about his regular health check up, since these two drugs can have adverse effect on both liver and kidney, you need to monitor the health of these organs on a regular basis. Liver health is closely associated with libido. So, I would suggest you to consult your doctor and go for an over all health check up. If everything is found Ok, may be you need to check for his hormone levels also. I am sure, you should be able to get a solution.
Avatar m tn i think the the claims on liver damage have been made because drug makers knew about the antiviral effects of statins and to avoid their use so thatthey can sell the more expensive antivirals until now there is only a study on decompensated cirrhosis (end stage) with portal hypertension and simvastatin and all improved liver function, here is the link.
