Avatar f tn Lately I have been so so thirsty but only for water and so sleepy, (TMI) and no matter how much water I drink (sometimes it is nearly 3 litres a day) my urine is still quite yellow. I know that's normal in pregnancy but could this be a sign of gestational diabetes? Thank you.

Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a condition that occurs during pregnancy that affects how your body uses sugar. Generally, gestational diabetes does not show many signs and symptoms. Occassionally, women feel increased thirst and the need to urinate frequently. It is important to start your pre-natal care early, when you first find out that you are pregnant. You will be screened for gestational diabetes as part of your prenatal care.
Avatar m tn I'm a type 1 diabetic and have information about diabetes, but pregnancy and diabetes is not my strong point. I do know it is important to have tightly controlled blood sugars when pregnant and people diagnosed with gestational diabetes are usually put on insulin. There is a woman named Super_sally888 on this forum who knows a lot about this topic and if she signs on, she will respond I'm sure.

My sugar levels are now under control because of the meds, exercise, and diet. I've even dropped a few pounds... I have family history of diabetes but, i didn't have it before pregnancy...

Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that comes on during a woman's pregnancy. You don't even need to have a family history of it. You can have it in one pregnancy and not another, although it's more common in subsequent pregnancies once you have had it. It goes away after pregnancy. What happens is your body slows down metabolism during pregnancy to ensure that your growing baby gets enough nutrients.
Avatar n tn First, let me explain that the cause of type 1 diabetes is very different from the cause of gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes has its root in an autoimmune disorder that causes the body's immune systemt to attack and destroy its insulin-producing cells. Gestational diabetes, on the other hand, is (from what I have read in articles about gestational diabetes) caused by the hormonal changes during pregnancy creating a temporary insulin-resistance.
Avatar f tn Did you have any signs of it before..

Gestational diabetes by and large outcomes in couple of manifestations; be that as it may, it increases the danger of pre-eclampsia, melancholy, and requiring a Cesarean segment.
Avatar f tn If the results come back abnormal they do further testing and I *think* get fluid from arround the baby via needle to test for illnesses. Some signs of downs syndrome can show on ultrasounds but not always get noticed. I had (UK) a dating scan at 12 weeks, another scan at 20 weeks (checks heart, brain, organs etc) and I have a few more because I'm classed as high risk. Never feel afraid to ask your doctor about future appointments and ultrasounds.
Avatar f tn My chances of developing diabetes are high, both my parents have diabetes, I got tested at 10 weeks and got normal results, at 16 weeks I got another test (due to having glucose on my urine) and my one hr came back slightly elevated 156/140 and had to do the 3 hr and got normal results! Today I eat at 9 am, I had a sprite with my meal, and I decided to check my blood sugar with my mom's machine, and to my surprise my reading came 99 after 3 hrs, it is a normal number right?? I'm 27 weeks 3 days!
Avatar f tn Oh yes, the most important thing to watch out for are sudden swelling of the feet, ankles, hands and/or face. Not the normal pregnancy swelling.
Avatar f tn Exactly like everyone else does, women that are pregnant should remember to protect their skin before investing a plentiful timeframe into the sun. A female's skin is more painful and sensitive when they're pregnant as well as can quickly be sunburned, which often, could eventually cause more severe problems like skin cancer.

129291 tn?1205780063 I still have morning sickness therefore take Zofran, have been through 2 surgeries and now this! Those of you who ended up with gestational diabetes, how often did you have to go to the Dr. office, did it require more US and how bad is the diet?
Avatar n tn When my son was diagnosed we knew none of the symptoms, so we missed them all, although I was becoming concerned about all the water he was drinking and all the trips to the bathroom, plus signs of fatigue. Fortunate for us my brother was visiting for Christmas and he recognized all the symptoms. So Jeff was diagnosed on Christmas Eve with blood sugars over 700.
Avatar f tn Has anyone done this yet? Has any one had gestational diabetes before? I have had 2 children before, last one 12 years ago... and I didn't have this. UGH.. Just worried about a really restricted diet...
Avatar n tn Our 38-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a few weeks ago. Of course, my husband and I are very upset and shocked since she was always extremely healthy until recently. She also has been very moody and irritable. We were hoping that starting insulin injections would help relieve the moodiness, but it seems to have continued, even though her sugar levels have been kept under control. Is this a common occurence at the beginning phases of Type 1 diabetes?
Avatar f tn A headache that won’t go away, along with vision changes (like blurriness or sensitivity to light), can be signs of preeclampsia (pregnancy-specific high blood pressure). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
492921 tn?1321293496 I have heard that headaches are a symptom of pregnancy and are caused by hormones. What do you think? How many of you had bad headaches that lasted all day long and tylenol didn't help and it wasn't gestational diabetes?
Avatar n tn I've been married for about a year, and since I've been married, I have had increasing pain during menstruation and there have been several times when I've spotted in between menstruations (never had that before). Also, I have had several pregnancy signs (sore breasts, darkening of the areolae, extreme fatigue, nausea...), but every time I take pregnancy tests, they come up negative.

237300 tn?1231458318 Sorry I am rambling, I don't really have anyone to talk to this about since I recently moved from all of my friends. I have had some signs of pregnancy (according to the internet) but I am still four days away from my period. I want this to happen so bad and I think I am already driving my husband nuts! Do I really have to wait until I miss my period or could I do a hpt tomorrow, three days away? I am really thirsty and my boobs are fuller and heavier than normal before my period starts.
616452 tn?1253881244 The state newborn screen should detect whether your baby has abnormal TSH levels. In addition, the pediatrician will be monitoring your baby for any clinical signs of hyperthyroidism, including irritability, rapid heart rate, breathing problems, stooling issues, or feeding problems. If there are clinical signs of thyroid problems, the pediatrician will most likely check thyroid function tests immediately, and may need to give medications to normalize the thyroid hormone levels.
