Sertraline taper

Common Questions and Answers about Sertraline taper

zoloft

Avatar m tn Has anyone tapered Zoloft while in the middle of a benzo taper (but on hold from the taper?) I have been tapering valium since June last year (did crossover from Klonopin/Ashton method) and started Zoloft in June (25mg) and upped it to 50mg in August. I have held the valium taper since August due to diarrhea and decided to taper zoloft but now I am not sure which to taper first. I am at 6.5mg valium down from 12.5mg (was c/t in August also from 9mg and reinstated to 7mg almost immediately).
Avatar f tn Did your doctor have you taper slowly off the Cymbalta before starting the sertraline? If not, that may be part of the problem. We all react differently to medications, but sertraline is one of the easier ADs to adjust to..........side effects pretty mild for most of us, and are usually completely gone in a few weeks. One of the most important, and difficult, aspects of getting on an antidepressants is learning to be patient.
Avatar m tn hi all been on 50 mg sertraline tablets for 3 weeks now for anxiety. they dont seem to be doing anything to me except side effects 1st week was worst my anxiety was worse had panic attacks, constant tiredness jittery sweating calmed down bit now i just have constantly shaky hands all time no matter what i do, doctor said thats just me im not sure what he means. anyone else get this? also i dont want him to up my dose as the side effects but not noticing any change does it take longer? thanks.
Avatar f tn You should do this with a psychiatrist, and a good one, not just anyone, because they are much more experienced with doing this. Which brings me to your taper -- there is no one taper out there. The taper off a drug is the one that works best for you. If this schedule doesn't appear to work for you when you do it, then tell your doc so he can change it up to suit you. You have to tell him how you're doing so he'll know.
Avatar f tn you may still need it. Your doctor will know what you need to do, maybe a slower taper. Good luck and take care.
Avatar m tn I was at my wits end because of the symptoms and went to my doctor, two months ago, who prescribed sertraline for depression? Since posting here i have just gone and looked up Sertraline. It seems the side effects of that are very similar to withdrawal symptoms? Like i said i was getting symptoms before i started the Sertraline. In hindsight though it does seem to have gotten worse. Just let me add, when i went to my doctor it was more for my physical symptoms than mental ones.
Avatar n tn So I have a question related to the mix of antidepressants= For the last 18 months the doc added 50 mg's of topiramate and Abilify to a very old mix of sertraline 200mg and 2 mg of Lorazepham daily.. I had stopped functioning well and quit taking the new additional two scripts two weeks ago now it's like I have bugs in the LEFT side of my face and it's making me worried and sore-Is there a bad mix of the four together? How long until this tingling wears off?
Avatar f tn I'm going to have to taper off this drug at some point soon. I have heard it's one of the hardest to come off of. Iv been on and tapered off many ADs including the SNRIs which mostly caused great anxiety and depression whilst doing so. What am I to expect from this one? (I'm going to be then going on sertraline after as it apparently is gentler to ppl wit health conditions ... Any info would b very gd for me to anticipate wat is potentially to come.

Avatar f tn Hey Y’all, wondering how long it takes to feel normal(functional)after quitting sertraline. Quick story, I started about 3 years ago on sertraline, on and off. Prescribed for depression, social anxiety, I developed this for no apparent reason. Couldn’t pin point why I was feeling this way. Overtime it helped make me functional as a person with work, relationships, grinding everyday to be the best. It had side effects. Mostly weight gain, some sexual dysfunction. Trouble ejaculating.
Avatar m tn My question is, does my taper make sense or does anyone have advice/experience with successful taper using Zoloft? I don’t trust my Dr. fir advice at this point. He told me Cymbalta was EASY to discontinue but for me it has been hellish. I need advice ASAP as I am starting a new job tomorrow and really scared of functioning in this sickened state. Thank you fir any advice!!!!
1910757 tn?1348683319 Because of depression I was already underweight, so my psychiatrist decided to switch me to Sertraline instead, to keep me from losing more weight. The first week I still had some nasty adverse effects like insomnia, sweaty hands and feet, lack of appetite and insomnia. I also stopped taking Clonazepam during the day, but instead I stared taking 0,5 mg and 5 mg of Zolpidem at night, which has helped my sleeping patterns.
Avatar m tn Are these two drugs compatable levothyroxine and sertraline hcl? Does your thyroid control your blood sugar?
Avatar m tn I'm a 30yr old male. I was on Sertraline approx 10 years ago for depression and it seemed to work until a crash. For one reason or another over the years, my treatment has changed several times. It is 2011 and i have found my way back to sertraline. I am currently taking 10mg of buspirone 2x day and 15mg of mirtazapine for major depression and generalized anxiety. I have been feeling constantly tired, apathetic and despondent.
Avatar f tn Your doctor, upon hearing that after two weeks on sertraline, you were not doing well, actually did the corret thing by wanting to try you on something else. Sertraline reaches therapeutic levels quite quickly in the world of ADs.......usually after a week, some changes in mood are noticed. After one week, you cut the dose in half, (altering the dose of ANY psychotropic med on your own should NEVER be attempted) but you continued to feel lousy.

1872071 tn?1320287532 I was just curious. I started 12.5 mg of zoloft (sertraline) 10 days ago. I didn't taper down to that or anything its just the dose my dr gave me due to my sensitivity to meds. Since then a bad insomnia issue has gotten worse and I also notice my appetite is less but I seem to be getting a bit bigger in my tummy. I am very very petite so I noticed it right away. Has anyone else taken a tiny dose of zoloft like 12.5 mg and noticedweight gain?
Avatar m tn I have had migraines for the past 20 years, normally I experience 3 or 4 migraines a year but since I have been taking Sertraline I have had many more than usual. I am sure that it is the Sertraline because I normally take it before bed and have woke up several mornings with the leftover pain from the migraine I had while sleeping ( before Sertraline I have never had a migraine during the night ).
Avatar f tn The insomnia and anxiety going into overdrive are classic withdrawal symptoms, and can last a long time for some people. Too bad you couldn't go back on the sertraline and try to taper off more slowly, the proper way. That would have been the solution. Look up PAWS, protracted withdrawal syndrome, and discuss it with your psychiatrist if he or she will listen. What was the reaction to Sertraline? Is it likely to recur?
Avatar m tn Well the coke and weed you can quit cold turkey, but I'd deff taper the Valium. You can have seizures stopping c/t. The coke w/d's don't last real long. Weed I don't know? Never did enough to be addicted. What did your doc say when you asked for help?
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, three months ago I started with pgad, which is a condition that you feel unwanted sexual arousal, it is horrible, I couldn't even sleep, at some moments It goes away and others it will return. I went to more than 12 different doctors, anyone knew what was happening. I have ocd, this year is going to be my 5th year with ocd and with anxiety, with despersonalization and irreality.
Avatar n tn The sertraline lol now I take celexa and its not really making me feel too different from the sertraline but, im always all over my bf now ahaha and as for the anxiety the sertraline basically killed that monster lol
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me Sertraline 25mg on top of my existing med. The first day I took Sertraline I got stomach upset and diarrhea; reduced to 12.5mg now. I m suffering side-effects like I'm having a fever(fatigue, sweaty, chills at times). On top of that, my menstruation's cramp is exceptionally bad this time, not sure it was affected by Sertraline. I am not sure this med would help me anymore. Hope someone could induce more positive effects about Sertraline.
