I was on it for about six years (first three on brand name - there was no generic yet) then on generic and it stopped working (unrelated situation). However, as you mentioned above, the only thing consistent between generics is the active ingredients, every generic has a different mix of inactive and binding agents. If you can afford it, brand name is great, but if not, there are many different companies that make generic sertraline now, so one bad generic doesn't mean all are bad.

Just remember that there are side effects with Sertraline (Zoloft) in both the generic and brand name forms especiallly when you start, change doses, or come off of it, but for most people they are not that bad. For example I have more side effects from taking a Claritan than I ever did with Zoloft. As with any medical concerns, always keep an open channel with your doctor to express any of your concerns or questions.

this is just a generic for zoloft correct?? if so then yes. I do all the time. But you can always ask your pharmacist any of these questions, he is always the best for answers as to what not to mix.
i have been suffering from major depression and anxiety for more than 6 months, i tried different medication but nothing helped but recently my doctor gave me new medication called sertraline and after 2 weeks of taking this medication i feel 70% better than before. my main symptoms have started to vanish and i feel like full recovery is just around the corner.
Im on generic zooloft 50 mg. (sertraline) I was on generic Prozac 40 mg...then it was increased to 80 mg, I had to switch because I was getting heartburn so bad.
Let me clairify. Venlafaxine is the exact same active chemical that is in Effexor XR.
The difference is (and this is a huge difference when were talking Venlafaxine) that Effexor XR is an extended release formula. This is where the "XR" terminology comes from. Meaning Extended Release.
The Generic Venlafaxine has no Extended release properties to it such as Effexor XR.
"By the way - a previous posting stated "Wellbutrin" is the generic name for Zyban. That's not accurate. The medicine is too new to have a generic equivalent. Both Wellbutrin and Zyban contain "Bupropion", which would be the generic name if one existed at this point. About 1 year ago, I had a physical done and my blood work was perfect. I have been taking the generic for Zoloft, Sertraline, for about 8 months now. I did another physical 3 wks ago, and it showed my TSH levels off and my Cholesterol as 276 with high LDL cholesterol also. My HDL level was high, which is great. I exercise and eat very healthy.
ve had depression for 20years. I also have been on many different anti-depressants during that time. Viepax is the generic name for Effexor (Venaflaxine). I was put on i8t, but asked to be put on the actual Affexor XL, which my doctor did. How are you finding it?
I cope well on Effexor with no side effects.
