Seroquel for sleep dose

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for sleep dose

seroquel

574118 tn?1305138884 I have been taking seroquel for years. my dose fluctuates between 50 and 300. I noticed that below 100 I get into depression. my question: is it true that one has to to take at least 100 mg for depression?
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Seroquil for a sleep-aid for a while, but it made me sleep forever and still be tired and apathetic the next day. I took Ambien for a couple years, but took myself off of it because I can get impulsive and overdose. Ambien is kind of addictive. I've always been interested in Lunesta since it's non-narcotic but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Have you tried over-the-counter sleep aids?
Avatar m tn Seroquel is a strong antipsychotic agent. While it does cause drowsiness, using it for sleep alone could bring along unwanted side effects or even new medical conditions. Using a medicine specifically prescribed as a sleep aid would be a better option than exploiting a side effect of seroquel. Also, patients who currently take seroquel often feel drowsy throughout the entire day.
Avatar f tn Big weight gainer for me, all I craved were sweets.I found the higher the dose the worse. It seems alot of the anti psychotics I've tried have had things effect. I hope you success!
1039200 tn?1314915608 My pdoc wants me back on the normal release seroquel from the XL because my sleeping pattern deteriorated on it. If I am not able to sleep with the dose split into two he wants me to take it all at night. However I also seem to remember him telling me that the effect of normal release only works for 12 hours - does this mean that if I take it all at night I get to sleep but am not covered against my symptoms (mainly paranoia) in the day?
Avatar m tn Also all the other sleep medications are completely awful, also has anyone ever tried not having sleep for a few weeks, how can that be better ? I took it for sleep it was briliant I think 12.5 mg. However if you have depression a good anti depressant will improve your sleep and is probably a better option, ask a doctor. I settled for this in the end. The first six weeks on the seroquel as sleep aid, i was in a fantastic mood, it has this effect, but after that I went down a bit.
Avatar m tn I took seroquel during my long term sub program getting off oxy. I took small dose to sleep well. It works like a charm, but it is hard getting up in morning. I needed coffee wake up. I dont trust much chem's anymore so I tapered off it without problems. I may need to use it to get through sub detox, so if anyone has comments, please let us know.
Avatar f tn My doctor has recommended Seroquel for my insomnia. Since i am a parkinsons patient, I was wondering if this ,might make my parkinsons worse?
563541 tn?1257881167 He said it was for bi-polar, but he gave it to me at 50mgs. for sleep and it really helped me sleep, just a bite out of one at night. He also said that it would linger or last through the day to help with the anxiety/depression. I don't think that has worked as I'm still a basket case. jk...
Avatar n tn I was given Seroquel in the hospital for sleep and it made me sleep a lot for a couple of days. After 5 days it only made me sleep at night. It lost it's effectiveness after a couple of weeks though. I take Trazadone now and It works pretty well for me. Don't take Ambien if you can avoid it. It's a Benzodiazapine and is addictive. I took Ambien for over 2 years and when I went to detox I quit that too. Went right to Trazadone and it worked right away...
Avatar n tn my son took seroquel to sleep...along with the other antidepressant he was on. it was his experience that without it, he could not fall asleep. when he decided to come off of it, it took many months before he got a normal sleep pattern back.
214255 tn?1205639236 My husband currently takes Seroquel. As far as I know there is no black box warning. He takes 400mg 2x's day!!! I took a 100mg seroquel ONCE and my face didn't even move, I could hardly stay awake. Now if I need to sleep I'll take a 25mg dose. Let's just say they aren't a medication to fool around with. Like the package says "Anti-Psychotic". I personally don't understand how my hubby can function on it, well I guess he does sleep alot. Hope this helps, but be carefull.
Avatar f tn my doctor gave me seroquel for sleep also, it does tend to make me groggy the next day,so she said for me to try to lower the dose to 25 mgs, it is a common side effect of seroquel and i guess if it effects you this way then it will always effect you this way, my doc told me this side effect doesnt go away with time. but if it helps you sleep while going through withdrawals than take advantage of the times where you CAN sleep...
809366 tn?1238753181 I had problems sleeping and my pdoc put me on ambien, then lunesta then to valium which none worked so now he put me on 50mg of seroquel this made me sleep and then some. I am feeling like I am drugged and scared to take the next dose and scared not to as well. My pdoc is new to me and never gave an emergency number, he will not be back in his office till tuesday and also this coupled with my lexapro put me in a mixed state and feeling slighty suicidal this happens when I cycle rapidly.
Avatar n tn they RX'd it for me for sleep too, didn't do the job so I've moved on to other RX's but do remember the doc saying it had some funky side effects and to be very careful not to taper to quickly -- take care.
8520825 tn?1398515060 ) I am quitting seroquel, and I was wondering if you could help me. I was put on 1200 mg's nightly dose; for about a year. I am currently taking 600 mg nightly; trying to taper off this medication so i can regain my ability to feel emotions again. I feel like a zombie. In the beginning it helped me by stabilizing my mood, and helping me sleep. I discovered that the numbing affect, and other side affects like weight gain, and acid reflux was something I don't like at all.
Avatar m tn i would choose anything over benzos nightly for sleep...like u r doing...low dose and play it by ear....i always start with the lowest dose i can with any new drug anyway...i really think u will be ok...i have given it many times to patients over the years and there was never any major incidence or anything...just went to sleep 30 minutes after....when ur sleep returns...get off...i do agree it is better than a benzo any day of the week....
1168718 tn?1464987135 It was my psychiatrist that gave me the nortriptyline and it didn't work, ( made my mouth and toungue numb), then went a few days with nothing BUT the gabapentin, then he called and put me on the Seraquel. I'm on a 12.5mg. dose, and it does seem to help me sleep. That is what it is for, just a sleep aid. Sorry for going on so much, I guess this is also a response to JJ..... *S* Hi JJ .....
736475 tn?1281262927 I was taking Seroquel for 4 years I was taking it for sleep. I have not been going through withdrawal for about 45 days I am taking two 6.25 and 1/2 mg of Ambien and it's not working I sleep for about 4 hours a night. I was giving this medication strictly for sleep I had no clue it was for other things until another doctor told me. I was taking only 50 mg and I cut it down to 25 myself because I was trying to get off of it I don't really like taking drugs.
915369 tn?1355318410 I thought I was getting better so surprise surprise for me! Anyways, she prescribed me Seroquel along with my usual Lithium and Gabapentin. She told me to take one or two at or before bedtime. There are a lot of or's there for me! So I took one last night, it didn't make me sleepy at all today so I'm guessing according to what she said I should try taking two. I was wondering about the side effects and all that from anyone who's taken it or still is taking it.
Avatar f tn Hi loss of libido can't be sure, though at high dose you feel lethargic indeed. seroquel has been for me a God send preventing mixed states. It also makes you sleep well. But my dose is small 50mg maximum and most of the time 25mg. I can't dispense of it it's my main drug.
1349329 tn?1276988802 My Dr. has prescribed a low dose of Seroquel for me to help with sleep while I'm detoxing. I did an internet search for information and found a website that sells this Medication and you don't need a prescription. I'm going copy and past what it says about how to take it etc., Read everything it says, it is "Totally Crazy." Drug Name Seroquel (Quetiapine) Drug Uses Seroquel is masterpiece for treating schizophrenia or bipolar boisterousness.
Avatar m tn It was illegally marketed by the manufacturer (who has been fined and sued successfully for this) for just about everything. So this isn't a drug I would take for sleep (taking any drug for sleep can be a problem long-term, so I hope you're looking for the solution and not just relying on medication) given the strong side effect profile of drugs intended to treat psychosis. It's legal for doctors to use it for this, but it's like swatting a fly with an anvil.
574118 tn?1305138884 For me 400 mg of Seroquel leaves me tired but happy. If I lower it then I have energy, but I become very angry. 400 is good for me. I'm not sure what the difference is with regular Seroquel and Seroquel XR.
Avatar m tn I reduced my grandmother's dose of Seroquel from 1/2 of a 25mg tablet to 1/4 and she still has slight TD-like muscle movements of her lips/tongue and head nodding. She has been on this medication since being in the hospital 6 months ago. When I tried to discontinue, she skipped one dose, had strange thoughts, upset stomach and couldn't sleep. She also takes Dilitiazem and Lasix for BP. Is there something safer she can take to keep her calm and sleep?
Avatar n tn This is my first time to this site, but I was wondering, my dr is putting me on suboxone this Friday, he couldn't do it last visit because I had methadone in my system and I've heard how it would put you into immediate withdrawals after taking it so, my dr prescribed me a few meds to get me by until Friday when he can give me the script for suboxone, in the mean time the Seroquel XR 150 mg was helping me very well to sleep, but now it's like I'm not even taking it at all, can anyone explain to m
766412 tn?1234896883 When I was taking seroquel, (quetiapine), I found it to be a really stabilising drug, I didn't have any real extremes of mood, and weirdly, never cried. My only problems were that I got very tired at times, and often got cramps in my legs, but after awhile taking it those things became less harsh. Good luck with it.
Avatar f tn These meds can disrupt our sleep cycles because they affect the quality of sleep and the quality of our dream sleep. Seroquel is particularly sedating, so it's natural you might have a rebound effect. You can also try Calm's Forte, a homeopathic remedy. I wouldn't recommend the ambien, it's another strong drug, and eventually you'll just adjust to it, too, and it also disturbs natural sleep rhythms. Melatonin, on the other hand, resets your natural body clock, so give it a try.
607502 tn?1288251140 I was transfered from Seroquel to Risperdal years ago. Once the Seroquel was gone completely, for a couple of days I had minor flu like withdrawal symptoms and slept all day and felt run down. Then I was okay after that.
Avatar f tn I'm not taking seroquel for bipolar just for insomnia but found out I'm gaba deficient due to drug use in the past but I really want to know how long these withdrawals will last I only took seroquel 600mg for about 40 days any experiences or a timeline someone can give me it's been about 10 days off the serouqel
