Seroquel for sleep dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for sleep dosage

Avatar m tn I was prescribed Seroquil for a sleep-aid for a while, but it made me sleep forever and still be tired and apathetic the next day. I took Ambien for a couple years, but took myself off of it because I can get impulsive and overdose. Ambien is kind of addictive. I've always been interested in Lunesta since it's non-narcotic but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Have you tried over-the-counter sleep aids?
Avatar n tn seroquel 200 mgs now i'm up to 400 .........
232264 tn?1191252080 The weight is stubborn and extremely difficult to take off. For sleep I use 0.25 mg of Halcion (Triazolam) for sleep plus 8 mg of Melatonin. That works just fine to get me to sleep. Sometimes I skip the Triazolam and only use the Melatonin and that is fine by itself.
1168718 tn?1464987135 I was put on klonipin and only took it the first time which made me sleep for way too long and hubby had a hard time waking me. I took Seroquel and, everyone still thinks I'm crazy, but I swear that I laid there awake but could not move and my heart was throbbing like crazy. I thought I was going to die. I was trying to say something to my husband but couldn't. At any rate, I never took it again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Avatar m tn It was illegally marketed by the manufacturer (who has been fined and sued successfully for this) for just about everything. So this isn't a drug I would take for sleep (taking any drug for sleep can be a problem long-term, so I hope you're looking for the solution and not just relying on medication) given the strong side effect profile of drugs intended to treat psychosis. It's legal for doctors to use it for this, but it's like swatting a fly with an anvil.
766412 tn?1234896883 When I was taking seroquel, (quetiapine), I found it to be a really stabilising drug, I didn't have any real extremes of mood, and weirdly, never cried. My only problems were that I got very tired at times, and often got cramps in my legs, but after awhile taking it those things became less harsh. Good luck with it.
Avatar f tn I'm not taking seroquel for bipolar just for insomnia but found out I'm gaba deficient due to drug use in the past but I really want to know how long these withdrawals will last I only took seroquel 600mg for about 40 days any experiences or a timeline someone can give me it's been about 10 days off the serouqel
Avatar m tn I knew another guy who was about 19 t0 22, didn't have a job, couldn't really work because of his bipolar instability and was in and out of the hospital every 3 weeks for a long time. He was on Seroquel, and each time the dosage went up and he would get really well, and then leave and after a week, he was doing badly again and back in. The problem was that he always returned to his parents house, and it was a toxic, abusive environment.
605458 tn?1539232408 I don't think that would work. I need the Seroquel at bedtime to put me to sleep. I don't sleep if I just take a small dose, and if I don't sleep I get manic, and when if I get manic I can get delusional. I primarily take it for its antipsychotic properties, and the fact that it puts me to sleep at night is a bonus. Sometimes, when I am even just a little manic, my dose of immediate release 450mg isn't enough to put me to sleep. Then I have to use Xanax.
Avatar f tn I have had an especially hard time since I dropped down, getting only about three hours a night. I can't function on that little sleep. The doc gave me 25 mg of seroquel. I used it last night and slept much better. Is sleep always going to be a problem with bipolar meds?
1255936 tn?1296627061 I took 25 mg of Seroquel for GAD and it did wonders! I took it for a year and recently got off because my stresses are gone.
Avatar f tn I took a higher dosage before and they put me to sleep for over 24 plus hours. I had to practically beg them for a lower dosage. Its just that I dont want anything to happen to my family and I cant do anything because I am knock out.
1278098 tn?1297649973 I was taking 1 tab of Seroquel in the morning and one at night. I was finding the last dosage before sleep was k-oing me and I was sleeping for 12-14 hrs! Thats too much sleep and I was missing pasrt of my day because as soon as I would roll out of bed I would have to be to work for 11pm. So instead I started taking a half before bed, then the other half when I got up. I found the other half started to make me drowzy before working nights so I stopped taking it.
2198749 tn?1338646595 I am curious to know if a 75mg nightly dose of Seroquel for sleep can increase depressive symptoms during the day. If so, should I discuss a change in meds or dosage with my HCP?
Avatar m tn Mostly for sleep I've just seen Ambien prescribed, not Seroquel. If you were prescribed this for other reasons pre-treatment I'd imagine they will keep you on any meds that don't conflict with the efficacy of the interferon or riba. I haven't read anything about it causing any negative effects - did you ask your doctor?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Seroquel at 50 mg dosage in September of 2009 for insomnia. While Seroquel helped me to fall asleep fast, I began suffering from what seemed to be sleep deprivation. In May of 2010, I began gradually weaning myself off the Seroquel in order to determine if the med was causing my sleep deprived state. When I was down to 6 mg I developed a rebound of insomnia, and due to desperation and school finals, I increased my dosage of Seroquel abruptly.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed it, but havent resorted to it yet and probably wont...but it is used for sleep and as a boost or addition to antidepressants for depression...for use at night only as it does induce sleep...(25mgs-100mgs) 600 mgs is what was prescribed when used for bipolar etc...doesnt work well for that, it now has other uses...
Avatar f tn He ended up getting diarrhea from it so now he won't take it. His doc put him on Seroquel but all he does is sleep and he is very depressed. I did some research and saw that there is something called Lithobid and that it doesn't have the diarrhea issue. Does anyone know anything about this? I feel really bad for her, and told her maybe she should have her husband go to a psychiatrist instead of a regular doctor.
999828 tn?1250126526 XR is time released/ie extended release..which is more often rx-d for bipolar/disorders..
Avatar n tn My doc says he can't raise the dosage just yet. Also does seroquel xr buildup in my body and can I expect to feel better.. I appear better but internally I feel like like I am losing the battle..
358304 tn?1409713092 So my doctor prescribed some Ativan for sleep. This helped alot for sleep; but I developed a tolerance to the lower dozage. Dr. presibed a highter dozage of 1 Mg. I couldnt take 1 mg. because it made me dizzy. So doctor switched me to 0.5 mg of xanax which only gives me 4 to 5 hours of sleep. Doc said I could try another half of xanax and see if this could give me a little more sleep. I did try Paxil; but, it was hell for me only after 3 days on it; so I stopped.
Avatar n tn This seemed to happen for about 2 weeks for every time I lowered my dosage.. I want to stay off the meds and I was wondering A: are these side affects normal? and B: How long until the drug is completely out of my system?. I also must say that the severe side affects I had before have now disappeared, especially the paranoia which I never had EVER in my life...... My Doc keeps telling me all I experienced was due to anxiety but honesty that's what they all say and I think they're full of crud..
Avatar n tn He might also want to get his thyroid checked....I have been on seroquel for over 3 weeks and its not fun....I sleep too much when I take it before bed....headaches and sometime confusions....Please have him go to a doctor....
574118 tn?1305138884 Of course individual dosages can vary. For example I could not get a full response on Seroquel until 325 mg. and below 300 mg. I was manic and psychotic and it hardly functioned. I did ask my psychiatrist and the reason anti-psychotics are being increasingly used as mood stabilizers is that lithium aside, all the other mood stabilizers can at times induce mania or other personality changes (which is noted on them as a side effect and I experienced as well).
1965148 tn?1354982234 First, the sleepiness you get and second, the weight issue. I've been taking Seroquel for about a year for insomnia and yes, you do sleep the sleep of the dead. The first night I took it my boyfriend said he actually got a mirror and put it under my nose to see if I was still breathing.(haha). And also, when I first started taking I gained 15 lbs. After I realized I was getting fat I told my psychiatrist to take me off the Seroquel IMMEDIATELY.
663901 tn?1232653271 Have you thought about switching a drug so you can drop the level of seroquel, I am on trazadone for sleep. It took me 4-5 days not to be terribly sleepy, but I sleep like a rock normally. When I hit a depression all gloves are off when it comes to sleep, so I add ativan. Ativan will help with the legs at night, and I like it, I only use it when needed.
Avatar m tn The company that makes Seroquel mentioned one week of side-effects after stopping Seroquel. They don't mention the dosage and for how long the patients had taken the drug. My doctor was out of reach and my family doctor couldn't help either. I was reaching out to those facing the same thing as I was.
Avatar f tn I stopped the Effexor completely about a week ago and I've been on the Serquel for aprx. 8 weeks. I feel desperate to stop the Seroquel but I'm afraid of the side effects. If I miss my dose I cannot sleep and I sweat all night. Anyone experience the withdrawl or side effects like this from Seroquel.
574118 tn?1305138884 Adel, another thing that I remember about Seroquel is that my primary doctor (not a psychiatrist) uses Seroquel in low doses for Alzheimers patients. She prescribes really small doses less than 75 mg for Alzheimers patients. She thinks I am on an extremely large dosage, but it's working now for almost 7 years, of no hospitalizations for mania.
377493 tn?1356505749 HI there, I know seroquel is typically used for anti physcosis, but it was prescribed to me today in 25mg for anxiety. I had a very traumatic event happen yesterday, and saw the therapist today. The md prescribed this on her suggestion. I have been reading up on the side effects and it seems for the most part they are extremely mild if any at all at this dosage (I am to take 1 before bedtime and 1/2 tablet during the day if needed). Anyone else had experience with this drug?
