Seroquel for autism

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for autism

seroquel

Avatar f tn Yes it will take a while for the Seroquel to build up to an effective dose as i was just started. Also Strattera can as an adverse side effect sometimes increase or cause aggression so although you should leave the dose of all medications in place it would be essential to discuss this with the doctor or psychiatrist who is prescribing the medications. You can find the information on the medication website, package instructions or P.D.R.
Avatar f tn My daughter has autism, but is not aggressive (she's also 5). I don't know a whole lot about medications for developmental disabilities in children because my DD does not need to take any. We do give her fish oil supplements. Fish oil contains Omega 3 which helps the brain. I would also make sure that you keep her busy during the day. That way, hopefully, she can get her aggression out by jumping on a trampoline, punching a bag, running, climbing, etc.
Avatar f tn I have cronic insomnia and my phychiatrist put me on seroquel for this pregnancy. I am 33 weeks and have been using seroquel during the whole pregnancy. I am extremely nervous if I am doing any harm to my little new baby girl. I am having panic attacks this week just thinking about it. I just hope for the best to all our babies.
Avatar n tn I have been trying to find out what's wrong with him for a long time now and have also suspected autism. I'm glad for the post from the gal who's son wasn't diagnosed until 7 because I keep asking myself if i'm crazy for pushing it or do the doctors know best. I'm a nurse so it's hard not to argue with them sometimes. at any rate for the problems with loud noises you may want to have his hearing checked for hypersensitivy. That was the problem with my son.
Avatar f tn my doc prescribed me seroquel/quetiapine 25 fto 50mg, but i took 75mg the first night cause i could not see it working at first, then slept for 15 hours and tired 3 more, then later at night i tried put it down to 50 mg and i was nearly at sleep 2 hours later but not in bed, so i drank a cola and some chips and the med didn't work an hour later(about 2,5 hours after i took it), now i took another pill about 2 hours ago and i can't seem to have it working, i'm still tired tho but not tired enough
Avatar n tn After doing a considerable amount of research and consulting with physicians for almost a decade, my family has not been given a cause for the development of an unsteady gait in my brother. His health condition is undoubtedly complex, so I am aware that no definitive answer can be provided via the internet. Nevertheless, an absence of answers or directions necessitates that I use any method available to acquire help, because my brother's condition is steadily declining.
Avatar f tn My son has taken Lexapro to control self-injurious behaviors since he was 7, and Seroquel for anxiety and chronic insomnia since he was 11 1/2. He was diagnosed with epilepsy 6 months after he was diagnosed with autism; however, his seizures are currently controlled with Lamictal. He was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy 1 year ago. My son performs at the 1st to 2nd grade level in reading and math, and his last IQ test, when he was 8, was 74.

Avatar n tn 00 noon and .2mg clonidine,300mg seroquel and 250mg depakote at bedtime. My sone is now 100pds he has doubled in size Im really concerned about the amount of medication he is giving plus the pharmasist has refused to fill any more seroquel perscription because he feels that is too much 900mg of seroquel per day for a 7 yr old.
1648124 tn?1301364223 Risperdal was introduced first, then he was taken off Strattera all together and Seroquel was added. I was terrified of the meds they prescribed, the first RX for those I handed over the counter to the pharmacist I felt like I was at the bottom of a deep dark hole, and all I could do was sob. But after a few days, I really started seeing big improvements for him. And it was the first time I ever heard him do imiginative play.
Avatar f tn There should be greater supervision from the FDA as regards this rather than less. Autism for example is a developmental disability so it doesn't really respond to medication. There are better ways to control the symptoms such as cognitive behavioral therapy (I have seen this in person because I volunteered for a while at a center for children with autism, constructive behavioral therapy was how they were helped).
Avatar f tn We are seeing a neurologist in 2 weeks for our son who's 21. He had bizarre behavior starting 4 years ago that we couldn't ignore any longer. He's currently taking Seroquel with little results. He's had a lumbar puncture that showed mildly elevated protein(55) and lymphocytes. He also had oligoclonal bands in csf and serum. Has anyone had any experiences with this? Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar m tn The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was Seroquel. He took it at bed time for about two years. I am wondering if this is a plausible cause. He was also on Risperdal and Depakote and Trileptal and Terazadone and Lamictal, of course not all at the same time. I am sure I spelled all these meds wrong. We are having trouble finding any professional who will take an active interest in the urgency of our problem with both the aggression and the onset of these tic behaviors.
574118 tn?1305138884 A friend of the family has asperger a category of autism he takes 20mg zyprexa (max dose) for 3 years now and is doing very well without changing the med. Whereas i was living on the min dose of AP's but i am getting more insane and increased my seroquel 4 times and losing control.

574118 tn?1305138884 and to call my psydoc-- who wouldnt see me, too busy-- just said he would call in a script for SEROQUEL for me-- 25mgs every morning to help with my depression. I do NOT want to add in another drug-- at least not an A/D, but SEROQUEL is an antipsychotic, isnt it? Still- dont wanna take it. IF anythin g elase-- I'd like to try a trial of CYTOMEL, I think, low dose and see how that does..

Avatar m tn She has been hospitalized several times after these events because they led to seizures and was sedated for many days. Hypotonia is just low muscle tone and common in children with autism. The genetic mutation was discovered after an 8 week long genetic blood draw. Genetic tests do not make mistakes. When you have disorders such as these and therapies have been used and the child is still at this point medications must be utilized to keep the child alive and somewhat functionable.
Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar n tn we are seeing a child psychologist now ,and under her care he has been on ,Imprimine ,seroquel .he is on Trileptal 150 MG twice daily ,and 75 MG Seroquel at bedtime with another 25 MG in the AM ....there is a strong family history of bipolar disorder ...I completley agree with the ODD diagnosis ,the other ..
1001049 tn?1250097950 I spoke to a fellow addict today, and she’s been taking seroquel for sleep for a while now. I know that it is given to people who suffer from anxiety and as a sleep aid. I’m sure we will be hearing more about seroquel as time goes on here. Like trazadone, an anti depressant that’s been around for years, it has side effects of increased drowsiness. If I wouldn’t have used sleep aids in the beginning of my w/d’s from opiates, I can honestly say, I wouldn’t have made it.
Avatar m tn She has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Insomnia, Central hypotonia and a genetic mutation on the RAI1 gene. She started taking sedatives at 19 months old (Ambien) and a benzodiazipene (Klonipen) for aggression and self harming (head banging, biting, hair pulling [hers], pulling her nails off completely and inserted things in anus and vagina). These seemed to help but she grew a tolerance within 6 months (maxxed out Ambien @ 10mgs and Klonipen at 0.5 mgs).
585414 tn?1288944902 And if waranted they will refer you to a movement disorders specialist. And as for the disability I have tardive psychosis it has not been identified yet but for me it started with a series of bizzare hallucinations seperate from the schizophrenia. But one thing that did happen that is known is that I had severe akathesia at the time. And people on antipsychotics with severe akathesia are at risk for tardive dyskinesia. That's why Clozaril is considered an option at that time.
Avatar m tn So you've got the original genetic diagnosis that is confirmed through a lab test, and then following, diagnosis for Autism, ADHD, insomnia, and central hypotonia. I guess my concern is, when you have such a laundry list of different diagnoses, and there are individual and various treatments for those disorders that include in some cases things as simple as reducing anxiety, you can lose focus on what the root problem is.
Avatar f tn I have heard that stimulants that are prescribed routinely for ADD/ADHD can actually make children on autism spectrum worse... I think the most important thing would be to concentrate your attention on sleep problems and aggression - and honestly, until you get sleep under control it would be hard to work on anything. I would start with a sleep clinic.
Avatar f tn I already went to the hospital and it didn't work. I went to two different ones actually, one for three months and one for a week. The medication I'm taking now it Seroquel (night time) and once every other day Sertraline (day time) because I'm transferring to Zoloft (day time),which is the same as my other daytime medication. I really dont want to go to another hospital.
1930930 tn?1323217847 For instance zyprexa (an atypical AP) can be taken by BP pts, shizophrenic, and even for aspergers (a branch of autism) so no drug is particular to a certain mental illness. Contrary to lithium which is mainly for BP this is why many pdocs across the world returned to using it niowadays than before. Of course it\s toxic with many side effects antisuicidal, tremors, etc...etc... but they say very effective. I tried it one day with half a pill and i kept erring in the house for hours.

Avatar n tn My child has a history of Scarlet fever inteh last year and had OCD symptoms for about two to three weeks about a year and a hald ago. He had pulled a small patch of hair out. It came and went though. Since he has had periods of tics and OCD type behavior that is out of the norm. Currently he was on antibotics for a sinus infection (7 days) and still has a stomach (three days).
