Seroquel and blood sugar

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel and blood sugar

seroquel

Avatar n tn I'm on Sub. but have not heard this. Had my sugar and other blood work done the day I started Sub, so that wouldn't show anything. I'll have to try and remember to get my sugar tested (my mom has diabeties and has the little tester kit). Maybe someone else has heard of this.
Avatar m tn Tests like fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, and thyroid tests may be needed. Consult your doctor and get evaluated. Hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn Most medications carry a risk of elevated blood sugar. I've been on Seroquel for a while now and my pdoc requests blood work on me at least every three months, just to monitor.. If you're concerned about the elevated blood sugar, than get tested to determine if your sugars are within normal range...
1305767 tn?1361192676 Yes I do take celexa in the morning for depression and seroquel at night for sleep. I've never had my blood sugar checked and I'm not allergic to anything.
Avatar f tn For instance I am on 500mg seroquel and have been on higher dose. Since starting I have lost 37lb! and am now slightly underweight so it can have the opposite effect as well! But then again I'm weird like that and drugs often effect me in ways their not supposed to!
Avatar f tn d suggest having your psychiatrist refer you to a nutrionist and definitely get a test (at least once a year) for blood sugar levels and the like (on any antipsychotic). As for the "known" medication I take which is Clonidine as a mood stabilizer it makes me want to eat all the time so my policy is keep fattening snacks out of the house so I don't give into temptation. Speak to your psychiatrist and see how best to approach it.
1021784 tn?1306363011 Maybe klonopin or something a lot milder from seroquel. I only got placed on it because I had more than just anxiety and I tried several other meds first.
Avatar n tn t recall gaining weight. However my blood sugar soared up to on an average to over 30o fasting blood sugar. I am diagnosed with diabetes type2. I strongly recommend to at least be cautious of you're diabetic. Plus discuss with your prescribing doctor if you're diagnosed with diabetes, especially type2.
Avatar m tn SEROQUEL is approved to treat the depressive episodes and the acute manic episodes in bipolar disorder and to treat schizophrenia. SEROQUEL XR is a once daily tablet approved only to treat schizophrenia Antidepressants have increased the risk of suicidal thoughts and actions in some children, teenagers, and young adults.
Avatar n tn Benadryl seems to knock the edge off of the tension and movement but I will still feel like my skin is crawling and like I have low blood pressure or low blood sugar. But it is enough sometimes so I can get to sleep. I have tried to not tak seroquel and switch to another drug but seroquel is the only medicine that manages my bipolar II disorder so I’m stuck trying to deal with this side effect but sometimes it’s so bad I want to wake my husband up to take me to the ER.
Avatar f tn Since seroquel can cause high BG you sure your diabetic and not as a result of seroquel raising your BG? Go to Google and put seroquel into the serch field.
Avatar f tn Seroquel does cause you to gain weight regardless of eating, and this is because seroquel effects the pancreas, which is responsible for insulin regulation. Disturbed insulin regulation can lead to food cravings, weight gain..and diabetes. Insulin helps with breaking food down to glucose, the bodies natural sugar that is fed to our bodies cells to give us energy. Food probably plays a role too.
Avatar f tn You are right that eating junk food will raise your blood sugar and having it high for a period of time can lead to complications. Nobody can give you any guarantees, but if you work on losing the weight you need to lose and developing a healthy eating style that will keep your blood sugar low, you will be in a better position to avoid complications in the future. It does get easier to eat healthy when it becomes a habit. Good luck to you!
Avatar m tn Physiologist? Not psychiatrist? If you google any of these drugs, or just consult the information that comes with it from the pharmacist, it will tell you all the possible side effects, but since individuals differ quite a bit in their experience there's no way to know what you'll experience. I will offer than Seroquel was illegally marketed for pretty much everything, especially sleep, which was an unwanted side effect of taking it, and it is a powerful drug.
8520825 tn?1398511460 You shouldn't be quitting by yourself. If you really hate it, you can point out to your doctor that you don't have to take anything you don't want to, and that you'd rather have a proper schedule. Stopping too quickly could cause a flare up in symptoms. 1200 mg is actually higher than the recommended max dose, which is 800 mg/day, unless you're taking something else that speeds up its metabolism. Another drug might work better for you without feeling so zombifying.
Avatar n tn You could ask your doctor about a specific diet that would help you cut back sugar and carbohydrates and help reduce weight and regular exercise is essential as well. Every antipsychotic has a different potential to cause weight gain (Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris being the least) and if it becomes a severe concern you could ask your psychiatrist about other currently available options but each person reacts differently to each medication.
Avatar f tn I have just weaned off quetiapine slowly under medical supervision due to physical decline in health. I have been off it now completely for 2 days and have not slept at all since. I also have nausea and vomiting. But my question is how long until I will be able to get to sleep again? I am Bipolar 2 and am worried about getting unwell without sleep. All I have read says it could be 1-2 weeks. How does one manage this with a mood disorder and with trying to work etc??
Avatar f tn Risperidone was the best antipsychotic for me but it does have its own side effect probs one being weight gain and blood sugar probs.
Avatar m tn Has anyone taken Seroquel and anti-biotics and are now experiencing heart problems? Do these issues subside, I stopped the seroquel when this happened?
574118 tn?1305135284 With the other antipsychotics gone, Seroquel would need to move into the therapeutic range to work. When I was on Seroquel as I saw an opthomologist I got examined for cataracts once a year at my psychopharmocologist's instructions. That's an extreme rarity. As for diabetes all the atypicals can cause it including Abilify. My friend got the first signs of diabetes from Abilify and went on a weight reduction diet and it stopped. It never happens overnight.
1134609 tn?1269272200 My doc and I have decided to start toss regular Seroquel into the mix a few times a day. The XR version didn't work very well for me, but the standard stuff does seem to chill me out and increase my mood. However, I am worried about the weight gain, but I read a lot of conflicting reports. I know that it increases appetite, but that's something that I can control. I read a study where they placed one group on Seroquel, along with a good exercise and diet program.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am on Seroquel (300mgs) and I find it okay. It is the only way that I get a good nights sleep plus it is a great mood stabilizer. The only thing I find is that I need to be in bed within 30 - 40 minutes because otherwise I get very dizzy and feel sick if I stand up so I just make sure that I get to bed in that time frame after I've taken it. You should be okay with that dose as it is fairly low.
1563533 tn?1345366296 I take 25mg seroquel at night and 200mg zoloft a day also. I plan on going to FL for vacation in July and when I get back I have to start Hep C treatments, I am going to drink one last time. Can I drink while Im on this med? I know that since I have been taking the seroquel I feel ALOT BETTER!! I was extremely depressed but now Im doin okay. I cant skip this med, Im afraid of that sever depression, but I also want ot let my hair down one last time. What would you suggest?
Avatar f tn And it never subsided for me, i guess it just really depends on the person
Avatar m tn jimgreg, have you had a full physical? Do you eat sugar, gluten, fake sugar, caffiene? These will trigger headaches and depression. What's the difference between the two types of depression? Take a pair of tweasers place inside of your body, pull pieces of cartiledge from head to toes. Then let heal, now do it again and again and again and scream on the inside from the pain while "acting normal". This is the difference and is not becuase of situational depression.
