I do not have a seizure disorder, but my twin sister and my mother both do. I also used to be addicted to Xanax. The seizure that you had on Tuesday could very well be from the Xanax (lack thereof). Please see a doctor if you are out of Xanax. Have you ever heard of Status Epilepticus? This is serious- your body can go into multiple seizures from the shock of your receptors going wild from not having the benzo's.
I have taken .25 xanax once daily for the last 9 days...It has helped but I started reading about it and became very scared..everyone talked about withdrawals...if I discontinue now will I experience withdrawals? Is that enough to cause a seizure?
Im on the slowest withdraw in history. I take suboxone and xanax. I had a seizure last sunday and was in the hospital for 4 days. They did tests and didnt find anything wrong. they did prescribe me klonapen. Im getting discouraged that this will never end and I might have another seizure. I'm about to give up and im not a quitter but im human and can't hang on forever, Any advice would help this middle age woman.
If you fell a little anxious about stopping Xanax, get the herb Valerian Root and take that instead. It calms the nerves and is safe. Take a little more of what the recommend dose is as this herb is safe. Then just take the normal dosage. It smells a little wierd but does not upest the stomach or anything. Worked great for me. Just stop the Xanax snd start the Valerian Root. You'll be fine.
s putting people back on it temporarily to ween them off properly, and then try another method like Tegretol and Klonopin to assist with side effects or having another Seizure, and or also give them meds to prevent seizure period. Similar to what people with epilepsy take who have multiple seizures. I can't and do not understand why a Dr. would put anyone on Xanax for life. Your friend may need a 2nd opinion for her own health and safety. Good luck to you both.
I quit Lortab cold turkey but this is way worse, plus what I understand there is a risk of seizure. Please write back and give us more info.

I am just wondering because in addition to stopping vicodin, I had to stop xanax, I was taking various amounts for awhile, but about .50 mg for the last two weeks. I am currently taking 1.5mg of xanax a day. I take .5 upon waking and then .25 in four hour intervals until I hit the limit of 1.5. I talked to my doctor because I would like to stop taking this medication and he told me to taper .25 weekly until I am at zero. Is this safe and accurate? He acted like the amount I am on is no big deal and that I would not even feel the effects of tapering. My concern is going that fast will cause a withdrawal seizure, which terrifies me.
I have just started taking xanax .5 mg three times a day. I don't know if it is the medication, or the anxiety, but I feel like I am about to have a seizure or something. They say she has seizures because she has part epilepsy and part of it is stress but it seems weird that she never had a seizure until she was taken off her Xanax. If I took her to the hospital every time she had a seizure we would go almost everyday and she doesn't want to go to the hospital because she doesn't want them to keep her for a while. She can't work because we never know when she's gonna have a seizure. Everything is just kind of hard right now.
I know that xanax can be extremely difficult to come off of, and I am afraid that weaning off will cause a seizure. Anything can happen in one patient but I can simply say that if you had a seizure after using xanax for two days, your case will be in the New England Journal of Medicine. The suggestion of tapering is "defensive medicine" that we are all hearing about lately. It is the absolute safest thing to do, but probably not necessary.
Well, from what I've read, you would be best to withdrawal from the xanax (tapering a bit, of course) first. Klonopin is known for much less harsher withdrawal symptoms, and it has a longer half-life than xanax so it's an easier switch. The dosage you are on is low and not dangerous to withdraw from completely - but I assure you, it would be horribly misreable. So instead, I recommend lowering dosages of xanax while keeping klonopin normal.

Right now I just need ideas. I had a seizure in July. Was on adipex, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Xanax at that time. I know it's a lot! But my question I need answered is.... Have any of you stopped cold turkey from Xanax? What can I do to relieve some w/d symptoms? I'm leaving for the beach tonight!!! I need answers quick! And my main concern is if I'm gonna have another seizure and what I can do about w/d? I can't go to a hospital or dr. And my husband has no idea.
