seizure

Avatar f tn Hi there. There are different types of epilepsy with different characteristics like grand mal epilepsy you have tonic clonic generalized muscle contractions, frothing, unconsciousness, twitches, metal confusion, some may lose bladder and bowel control, usually preceded by an aura of impending seizure. aura is a strange feeling of muscle stiffening, hearing weird sounds, smelling strange smells etc.
Avatar n tn In my case, two Doctors read the same scan - a full head scan following a first-time seizure - and both came up with different conclusion. What are the characteristics of both types of conditions on a scan, and what is the likelyhood of two different opinions being made? Thanks for your time!
Avatar n tn The person is completely responsive during the seizure. There are other types of epilepsy that a person will have no recall of what happened. There are some epilepsies that one forgets recent events. So, you can have seizures and still retain recall of voices. The EEG will not always define epilepsy or seizure activity when a person is in their normal state. So, you can have a normal EEG and still have seizures.

Avatar n tn What are the characteristics of both types of conditions on a scan, and what is the likelyhood of two different opinions being made? Thanks for your time! Dear B: Sorry to hear about your seizures. Most of the time one should be able to tell you whether the MRI shows a tumor or cavernous angioma. A cavernous angioma will have a popcorn like appearance (due to bleeding at different times)if bleeding had occurred.
384099 tn?1226447029 That being the case, who cares if one is a benzo and the other an antidepressant, either way, those of use who require these types of medications do for a very good reason just like a heart patient needs heart meds or an epileptic needs anti-seizure meds. We have to get away from the stigma that is still out there about these types of meds. You wouldn't even be asking this question if you were an epileptic. If this medication works for you, then it is good no matter how long you take it.
Avatar n tn I have researched both types of tumors, and understand both present different characteristics on an MRI scan. I am unclear as to how two different tumor types could be concluded (both Doctors had the same personal and medical history to consider), and further, how a classification or DX can be made at this point as both Neurologists have reminded me the images collected to date are crude and require shaper definition. Any assistance would be much appreciated!
Avatar n tn My neurologist thinks I have complex seizures even though the EEG is negative but he says there is usually no memory during a seizure. He also mentioned pychogenic seizures but after talking about it he says I have none of typical characteristics. I would apreciate your opinion on this matter. : Dear Elizabeth: : Sorry to hear about your problems. Yes, there are a group of epilepsies that one can remain conscious and recall voices, questions, and even answer questions that are asked.
Avatar n tn I have a son 5 yrs of age, who was diagnosed with a seizure disorder a year and a half ago. A cat scan was done and it came up normal. His EEG showed seizure activity and he was put on Tegretol. Now, just yesterday, he had his first MRI and we found out today he has a cyst on his brain. It is located above the base of the skull on the left side. Our Dr. is not advising surgery at this time, but cannot tell us if it will grow or if it will cause trouble later in his life.
584583 tn?1218256497 By 9 months, she was all over tan. Sep 2006 she had here first seizure. She was seen by a neurologist and was placed on Trileptal. Jan 2007, she had a throat infection and wasn't eating very good. The next morning my husband found her in her crib unresponcive. She was rushed to the local ER. She was having a seizure. After an hour of failed attempts to get an IV in ( she was too dehydrated), they placed an IO in her lower leg.
Avatar n tn immediate-, extended-, and enteric-release beads. The 3 bead types are combined in a specific ratio to allow for twice-daily dosing. Stability Carbamazepine tablets, extended-release tablets, and chewable tablets should be stored in tight, light-resistant containers at temperatures not exceeding 30DGC. Carbamazepine extended-release capsules should be stored in tight, light-resistant containers at 15-25DGC.

544292 tn?1268886268 Theres a lot of conflicting information about seizures on the list. I've never seen anYone have a seizure in tramadol WITHDRAWAL. Have seen several people have seizures when TAKING tramadol. AND, every tramadol related seizure I saw did not seem related to how high a dose the person was taking; RATHER was in instances where someone markedly INCREASED their dose. I think the confusion is in that seizures are common when withdrawing from sedatives (alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazapines etc).
Avatar n tn Have they offered a migraine preventative like Topomax? (generic name topiramate) which, interestingly, is also an anti-seizure med. I do know that the triptans (like Imitrex or Zomig) are CONTRAINDICATED. Sometimes just a trial course (called a therapeutic trial) will nail your diagnosis. For your level of symptoms, something like a brain tumor would have shown up as either the mass itself or with apparent pressure effects. It is true that a single EEG can miss a discharge.
Avatar m tn Next, I think its good that you're getting an EEG, but I think that will be negative as well, as an EEG tests for seizure disorders such as epilepsy, and this doesn't sounmd typical of one of those. Third, as I was reading your post, what stood out to me is your symptoms seemed to be brought on by stress. What coincides with that is that Xanax, and anti-anxiety agent, helps to relieve some of your symptoms. So now to get to what you do have, and how you can feel better.
Avatar f tn I have had migraines since I was a teen but for the last 2 years I have had "seizure like" auras with extreme neausea and vertigo. There was some debate about what was causing these symptoms. After extensive testing I have now been told it's non-epileptic and all migraine. We are now trying to find a daily preventative program. My Dr has suggested that our weather patterns might not be the best for my condition and that I might want to consider moving.
Avatar n tn Pineal cysts are a common and often incidental finding on MRI scans. However, Pineal cysts come in different types (most are benign cysts, but they can also be germinomas, astrocytomas, teratomas, etc.) These different types of pineal "cysts" have different findings on imaging.
Avatar f tn Is she on any seizure medications? They can make a person very groggy. Also remember that she just went through a few very traumatic days. I imagine that can take a toll on her poor body. Let her rest as much as she needs. CNS seems to be a rather generic description (central nervous system). Did they say what type of tumor they may think it would be? I suggest you try to get as many details as possible to educate yourself.
Avatar n tn Seem to cough a lot sometimes chocking sound effect she also is able to say alot more words than her brother, and as far as I know has no seizure activity. She also interlocks her fingers a lot but can pick up books turn pages, plays with toys. They were delivered week 37 Drs choice not mine since I had no labor pains. But they said I had gestial diabetes although when I did the finger pokes my levels were always normal range.
Avatar n tn it all started abouth 2 years ago, when I was lying in bed in the morning and in that 'about to get up' and 'still drowsy, lying in' stage I would have an odd sensation in my head. Sort of like a head rush, but more overpowering. How I would imagine a seizure to feel like if it was only in the frontal lobe of the brain (and not in the rest of the body). When awake I would never have these, and they happened very very rarely.
Avatar f tn My body is sensitive to the normal functions of the body. All types of stress aggravates it including physical, emotional, and psychological. I think all of the dx's above explain my symptoms without the somatoform disorder, but I trust this DR. and will go to a psychiatrist and try anxiety medications with maybe behavior therapy to see if I can handle stress better. I figure it does not hurt to try. I pray for you two often and hope you both will find the answers you are looking for.
Avatar m tn From the available medical literature, the authors selected randomized clinical trials of currently approved anti-HBV drugs that provided information on HBV genotypes and baseline characteristics of study participants, treatment response, and interaction between HBV genotype and type of therapy.
Avatar f tn From my headache days - have you tried Topamax? It's a daily pill is an anti-seizure drug, it can have side effects and you only want to take a low dose. It did not work for me but others I know claim it has. I lived in la la land while on it. Dulled my senses to the point of being dangerous...but all people are different. While I was seeing my neurologist for my burning lip and chin, she offered a headache drug call something like Micquin(?).
Avatar f tn I have never had any corrective surgery for this other than the hip pinning at age 13. But certain types of surgery - osteotomy, hip resurfacing, hip replacement - are definitely a consideration......I lay awake at night dreaming of how great it would be to have a normal set of hips! Feel free to contact me......
Avatar n tn maybe your dehydrated.... * Metabolic disorders * Low levels of B=6 * Certain types of neuropathy Sometimes its just gas, especially if you are getting sharp pains in the top of your back, i never thought gas would go there but it does, try a Simethecone tablet, see if it goes away. You can get sharp pains in the bowel if your are constipated. Or if you have been in one position for a long time, then get relaxed, it can happen then.
