Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in teenagers

Avatar f tn I'm not a medical person but I watched her the whole time, knowing she probably hasn't had depakote in a few days (I found a pill hidden again). I did not see any seizure activity in her face and also watching the monitor I didn't notice any there either. After the EEG, I asked her when she last took depakote. She said last Saturday (that was almost a week ago). I've been told these seizures are something she can out grow which would be super great for her.
Avatar n tn Last December it was the other Twin's turn and he had a seizue while shopping in a Department store with his family- same story-ran all tests and nothing showed Then this past weekend the other Twin had a seizure while walking in the O'Hare Airport terminal- not sure if he was rushing or running, but said he started to feel lightheaded so sat down and the seizure started. He was taken to a nearby hospital and tests showed nothing.
Avatar f tn Sleep paralysis affects people of all ages though most common in teenagers and young adults, but they say it's not uncommon to experience sleep paralysis at least once or twice in your life time.
1603617 tn?1297833320 Also i've found that when i'm particularly tired and stand a cold feeling spreads all over my body and then i begin to lose feeling in my legs and my knee's give way, while at the same time my eyes cloud over. Normally i find something to hold myself up with but occasionally i lose control over my body and end up falling to the floor. When this happens its extremely unsettling because i'm concious throughout and i'm unable to move or speak.
Avatar f tn He never brings home a school book to look at in the evening. He has okay grades and is in some AP classes so he is no dummy. He thinks there is nothing wrong with Cs because Cs are average. Sometimes I wonder if he has any empathy at all and I have asked him jokingly whether he is going to be a psychopath later in life. He says "No mom." I am chalking it up to laziness. The "all about me" syndrome that teenagers go through.
Avatar n tn My dog was beaten by teenagers and is now home from the vet. The vet says my dog has blod clot in the brain and it will be weeks before other effects of the blod clot become apparent. He also has blood clot in one eye and the vet cannot guarantee that my dog will regain his eyesight after the clot is gone. He had one minimal epileptic seizure while at the vet, twitching and shaking for 15 secs.
Avatar n tn He said that the scans don't show any cause for this to be happening and it looks like it is curving in rather than the bone thinning in that area. At this point it isn't affecting my brain, so he wants me to repeat the scans in October and come back so he can see if there are any changes. Keep in touch if you find anything out about yours. and feel free to send me a message in my inbox - I have a watch on this post and my inbox and I recieve an email whenever anyone posts to it.
163305 tn?1333672171 Oh, I'm pretty good at foot in the mouth, but I think in this case it's tx. It's the little old lady in the nursing home syndrome--sometimes we don't really get it, we crack a joke and someone takes offense. If we looked like the Golden Girls we could get away with it. We're just to young and beautiful!
Avatar n tn The thinking, which sounds logical to me, is that opiates replace the brain's natural endorphins and the brain stops making them in favor of the opiates. You stop taking the opiates and there's no endorphins waiting in the wings to step in and make you feel OK. So you feel like **** instead. The Lysine is what your brain needs to make more endorphins and other neurotransmitters; the B6 is a catalyst in that process.
Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have a really big handful with three teenagers in the house. And with summer around the corner (and a heat wave already where I live), I hope you have central air conditioning that you can utilize big time? I hope when you say bloatiness, you aren't referring to sudden weight gain, because huge weight gain is what happened to me when I was on Celexa generic. Is this the first time you would be having a gastroscopy?
Avatar n tn I'm not sure someone can live with Crohn's for 50 years. In 50 years my son will only be 63! I am in agony here and have thought of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge or swallowing all the Lexapro's and Xanax's they gave me in my garage with the car engine on. Please don't tell me my chld needs me because I cannot bear to sit around and watch him suffer. He might be better off without me crying in front of him all the time.
Avatar f tn This only happened to me about 2 times in the past year but also I get these patterns of noises in my head when I'm lying in bed and it keeps me from sleeping.
Avatar n tn Hello, My sister has had diabetes type 1 since she was 3 and she is now 10, which brings the question into my mind... How is it that teenagers and adults deal with diabetes during sleep? Bacause upto now there's always one of us waking up to check on her, and I know one day she will be independent and not live with my parents anymore. How do people handle that situation? Bacause it is something that you cannot monitor by yourself, when you are very low you may not be able to wake up alone.
Avatar n tn My son has seizures when he faints, but these are like you describe in that he is very aware before and right after the seizure. You could ask your pediatrician or family doctor to refer her to an Electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist) and ask specifically about the QT interval on the ECG.
Avatar f tn I think teenagers really need a Parental Guidance in every step of their way and they need help in their every endeavors. This is the time where they usually want to be with peers instead of being with their family and are most of the time, hard headed because they usually seek for independence.
Avatar f tn I don't blame you. Me and my husband were in the process of talking about having a baby. But had to see doctors before trying to have a baby due to the fact for me having seizure disorder. The family were aware of our actions. Once we got the heads up from the doctor saying it's okay to have a baby. My little sister who's 16 announced that she's pregnant stole my thunder!!!
1833144 tn?1319267657 I am however being tested for autoimmune diseases and mixed connective tissue diseases due to a rash I developed after the birth of my first daughter in 1999. I have had many symptoms of many different autoimmune diseases but mostly mixed connective tissue disease, lupus,& scleroderma. I was very sick with all 6 pregnancies and had contractions the whole time. I was given meds to stop contractions, betamethasone for lung maturity, and was on meds around the clock for the contractions.
627816 tn?1349241716 One of every four teenagers with ASD will develop seizures during puberty. Although the exact reason is not known, this seizure activity may be due to hormonal changes in the body. For many the seizures are small and sub-clinical, and are typically not detected by simple observation.
Avatar f tn is very busy and can only explain it so much, when we are fit in for appts., as I know he has others waiting. My Dad is now on an anti-seizure medication that will hopefully prevent anymore seizures.
Avatar m tn Maria, your symptoms sound like Multiple Schlerosis to me. It looks different in teenagers than it does in adults, and your symptoms seem pretty classic. The good news with MS is there are a LOT of new medications and new research that makes the outcome much brighter. Does this article sound like you? http://www.livestrong.
1684282 tn?1582660848 There is an appropriate use for each and every medication on the market, including the strongest narcotics, which I used in my daily practice for controlling acute pain in postoperative patients. Some patients in intractable, chronic or cancer pain need to be on long term opiates under close supervision of a physician. However, pharmaceutical companies have been successful in persuading the FDA in not scheduling tramadol, also known by its brand name Ultram, as a non-controlled substance.
Avatar f tn i do have a pyscharist and i am waiting to see her i see her in 2 weeks thats the soonest i can get in she is over seas right now.i am her first appointment back she prescribes me ativan for my anxiety now she was ok with me going off meds i was fine depression wise till the last 2 months or so. now its getting bad. i will not try st johns wort unless she says i can i see my reg medical doctor friday and he has in the past worked with her on my meds so he might do somhing then.
Avatar f tn On follow up angio they found a small risidual they could not get, it is in-operatable. They recommended gamma knife, which she had in Nov. 04. For the last 3 years she has been perfectly normal & active. In Apr 07 her symptoms came back. They did an MRI which looked normal. We were told it had nothing to do with her AVM, so we started checking into other possibilities that could be causing her symptom. Her family Dr. did a complete blood work. Normal.
Avatar n tn The Dr. ordered an EEG following the seizure, which according the the Dr. appeared normal. Then in July (about 2 months later) she suffered another seizure, the only common thread that we can see between the two seizures is she had a severe headache for several days prior to both seizures. This is the only seizures she has ever had, and she is of course worried about loosing her job over this, since her job requires her to drive.
Avatar n tn This is a generalization and not specific to your child. Many problems and complaints in children and teenagers come from conscious or unconscious efforts to get attention or manipulate their parents. Another is acute awareness of entopic phenomena (as discussed on these eye forums many times). I would recommend you discuss this problem and the previous eye examinations with your pediatrician or family doctor.
Avatar n tn When these occur in a young person, several disorders come to mind. The most common in teenagers and young adults is known as juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, an often but not always inherited seizure disorder that begins with such jerks and then progresses to cause genralized convulsions (grand mal seizures) and sometimes staring spells also. Fortunately, it is usually readily treated with a drug called valproic acid (Depakote), which controls the seizures in 85%+% of patients.
Avatar f tn Mind you, I was half asleep, lol! But I thought to myself, oh no, is is possible to have a seizure in the womb!?! I was so worried something could be wrong, because I have never felt that feeling before w/ my first PG, and this was a first w/ this one! What is going on, could something be wrong in there? What would cause a baby to shake in the womb? I've never felt it before, and I have never heard anyone talk about baby's moving that rapidly in the womb.
Avatar f tn He has always been really attractive and charming and seemed like the boy next door and all the teenagers in the neighborhood all had crushes on him. I knew nothing at the time i had sex with him what he had been up to until after. I found out he had been raped in prison, and heard he was highly addicted to drugs and shared needles, which i didn't believe until i walked in on him one day and he had one of his friends shooting him up.
