Avatar m tn Hi , sorry if this is a silly question . I left my ribavirin in the car for a maximum of 15 minutes , it was in between 30 and 31 degrees Celsuis ( 86 to 87.8 F ) in my car at the time , left in light but not in direct sunlight . Are they still safe and effective to use ? replies most appreciated .
Avatar f tn Store ribavirin tablets and capsules at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Store ribavirin oral solution in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.medicinenet.com/ribavirin/article.
Avatar m tn Hi All, My treatment is in month 4 and the rash from the Ribavirin is giving me a run for my money. The itching and bumps have really started popping up all over. The Dr. has been very vague on what, if anything I can do. This is as bad or worse than poison ivy ever was. Has anyone had to deal with this side effect and are there any solutions.
Avatar f tn It isn't recommended that children under 3. Triple treatment isn't approved for treatment in children. The current treatment approved for children is Peg and ribavirin. There is lots to consider before treating someone so young. I personally would not unless it was life threatening. Remember people can live with hepatitis C. It is important that it's progression is monitored by ongoing testing.

1205205 tn?1272398083 Hi All- I know this may sound dumb, but my niece threw my bottle of Ribavirin Capsules against the wall (She was mad at her mom- and grabbed the first thing in sight- which happened to be my brand new bottle). I opened the bottle immediately after to see if there was any damage. All the capsules seem intact, however, would there be any damage to the medicine itself? I looked it up online, and they said never to "open, break, or chew on capsules.
Avatar n tn How to decide to do interferon/ribavirin? I am having a great deal of ambivalence about beginning this treatment. And a lot of fear. The docs think I should go ahead -- I've probably had Hep C for close to 30 years (I'm 46) from one incident of "we have to try everything once" injecting heroin. I've been diagnosed for 5 years, genotype 2B with a biopsy five years ago grade 1 stage 0. I have quite a bit of fatigue and have struggled (under control at this time) with clinical depression.
Avatar f tn A high level Neo Nurse with an even disposition. ACOA, in recovery with 2 children and a husband and stepfather to my kids. The disease really has taken a toll on my marriage. Post TX my viral count went from the 100,000's to the millions. I then went to a specialist in Charlotte, NC who decided I would respond with the new Peg Interferon and ribavirin. I wanted to get rid of the disease" bad", working with sick babies and having a deadly disease did not correlate as ok in my mind.
Avatar f tn The cycle will continue to repeat over and over again while in the mutating presence of ribavirin and antiviral action of IFN, eventually resulting in eradication. But under the circumstances described above, since the mutation rate has been increased, its possible a pre-existing VX resistant dominant population could be mutated out of its resistance.
Avatar f tn The author, after reviewing the data, agrees with ICN. Ribavirin is active against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common infection in children. It is approved by the FDA for this use in the U.S., but the approved preparation is a liquid preparation for aerosol delivery. Though some of the drug is absorbed orally when used in this fashion, no oral preparation has been approved in the U.S. Use of the pediatric formulation in adults for other purposes would be prohibitively expensive.
Avatar f tn a father can infect his children in the same way he could infect anyone else if there is blood contact, but not genetically or via childbirth; this is known as ‘vertical transmission’.
Avatar f tn Anemia The primary toxicity of Ribavirin is hemolytic anemia, which was observed in approximately 13% of all Ribavirin/peginterferon alfa-2a- treated subjects in clinical trials. Anemia associated with Ribavirin occurs within 1 to 2 weeks of initiation of therapy. Because the initial drop in hemoglobin may be significant, it is advised that hemoglobin or hematocrit be obtained pretreatment and at week 2 and week 4 of therapy or more frequently if clinically indicated.
80575 tn?1207135964 I understand your frustration, particularly since you obviously want to get this under control so that you don't jeprodize your participation in the trial. I'm in the trial too and made some hikes in the sierra mountains. I thought I was protected with a wide brim dorky hat, etc...My nurse explained to me that it was the interferon that made me more vulnerable to the sun. Here's what I did to sooth the skin and help heal: I used a liquid bath additive that is very dark in color.
Avatar f tn About Study M11-652 (Aviator) This phase 2b study assesses the safety, and efficacy of ABT-450/r (dosed 100/100mg to 200/100mg QD), ABT-267 (25mg QD), ABT-333 (400mg BID) and ribavirin in non-cirrhotic treatment-naïve patients and prior peg-interferon/ribavirin null responders for 8, 12 or 24 weeks. Enrollment was open to GT1-infected patients regardless of IL28B host genotype and ribavirin dosing was weight-based. Results from the treatment groups are summarized in the chart below.

9877325 tn?1406442006 I must have blocked it out, I was in such deep shock. The only thing I do remember, was being in the E.R., and hearing the doctor tell me that he had died. I remember seeing him that last time, and then nothing. The shock really wreaked havoc on me. I ended up going to the doctor, maybe a year later, and was diagnosed with HBV and HCV. At the time, I didn't care. I just wanted to die, life was unbearable.I didn't follow up.
Avatar n tn Heptimax goes down to 5 IU/ml. You should know that while several studies suggest similar odds for in terms of SVR for short course super responders, another study suggested the longer course might give you 10 per cent better odds -- the difference between 80 and 90 per cent if I remember correctly.
5507014 tn?1369810459 It is overwhelming for him to read about what he will face with treatment, so I am doing the recon work for us. Do any of you in the SF area have recommendations for *compassionate* and *communicative* specialists? The one we've seen since diagnosis seems disinterested/distracted. We want to get onboard with some one more responsive before we begin drug therapy. I'd appreciate any feedback.
131114 tn?1380086790 gov and you can look up the trials that are available in your area. Also the Hep C Advocate is a good place for information about trials and tx in the pipeline. Good luck with your visit. What Center are you going to?
789911 tn?1368640383 I have been asked to participate in a randomized paralle-group dose ranging study to evaluate efficacy, safety pharmacokinetics and antiviral activity of vertex 222 and telaprevir in combination with and without peginterferon-Alfa-2a and Ribavirin in treatment naive subjects with genotype 1. There are 4 groups.
Avatar f tn with genotype 1 [my type - hardest to treat], there's about a 50-60% chance of cure, with the [current] standard of peg-interferon and ribavirin. Sometime in 2011 there will probably be additional medication approved that will increase the cure rate by another 20-30%"...a VERY good thing. My quandry is that, if I do start treating in January, and 'stay the course', and find that it didn't work, will I be eligible to start over with the new [2011] med added to the [today's] standard...
Avatar m tn One more thing, there will be clinical trial with ribavirin, sobusovir (sp?) and another Gilead drug in the Spring, at Quest clinical trials in S.F.. However, I am not sure the criteria includes post transplant. It is worth calling them though.
475555 tn?1469307939 Actually, I'm counting on flubbing because of my hemoglobin. I don't fancy Tx in New York in the winter, taking subways up to 168th Street. As I was leaving the Center I picked up a copy of Liver Connection, their patient newsletter. There's nothing in it about chronic hep C or Tx, just transplants. They do, however, run a series of "Educational Workshops" and I called the coordinating psychiatrist, Dr. Hafliger, to get some info on them.
1273473 tn?1270779440 I cannot emphasize ENOUGH how VERY IMPORTANT that the Ribavirin is to success in treatment. I was in a clinical trial with Telaprevir and was in the No Riba group and thus, did not clear. Had I been randomized into the Riba group, I would most likely have cleared this dumb virus. Riba is most definitely a necessary component!
Avatar f tn Female - 38yr old Genotype - 1c Diagnosed in 1995 Don't know how long I have it, don't know how I acquired it either (dentist office? immunizations?... who knows...) Fibrosis - stage 1 (by description) in 1995 Fibrosis - stage 2 in 2000, inflammation 1 Fibrosis - stage 2 (but by description it is progressing toward stage 3, since there is mentioning about bridging) in 2005, inflammation 1 Never used alcohol, drugs, etc, but was most likely exposed to chemicals in the laboratory.
Avatar n tn If you are sure you have no damage, I would talk over the options with your doc, but you might be a good candidate to wait for newer treatments that don't include ribavirin, and might be much shorter in duration, especially if you are feeling well now. If VRTX's timeline holds, and into the start of phase 2 it has, they might have VX-950 approved in less than 3 years. 2006 has the chance to answer many questions about it, and data will start to flow very early in the year.
Avatar m tn We evaluated efficacy of pegylated interferon alfa (PEG) and ribavirin (RBV) (PEG/RBV) combination therapy in LT recipients with recurrent HCV and predictive values of rapid virological response (RVR) and early virologic response (EVR). Between January 2001 and October 2005, LT recipients with recurrent HCV were intended to be treated for 48 weeks with PEG/RBV combination therapy independent of genotype or virologic response [53 patients (79% genotype 1)].
Avatar n tn I have 2 grown children and 2 grand children and I know what it feels like when your kids are sick, hope you find some good anwers soon...
Avatar m tn [Contact Lloyd] INF hastens liver damage… Nonresponders to Interferon-based Treatment of HCV Exhibit an Increased Long-Term Hazard of Cirrhosis Compared to Never Treated 4/3/2013 The long-term consequences of failed interferon-alpha based hepatitis C treatment on liver morbidity and survival have not been fully… I have been denied Long term disability because they cannot prove that I have pain 3/25/2013 from Barbara via Ask Lloyd I was diagnosed with Hep C in 2006, did
