Restasis and blepharitis

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis and blepharitis

restasis

Avatar n tn I have tried so many meds and now am on restasis and my doc said we could do plugs which now I am going to. A few thoughts and my eyes are really bad but that have helped slightluy. The theralid foam is the best for me to keep the eyes clean. Much better then baby shampoo or the wipes. I use only preservative free drops but when I put them in I close my eyes right away to keep them in as much as possible. If I go too long without the drops forget about it.
Avatar n tn Not all cases respond though and oral doxycycline and oral flax and fish oil are often very helpful. I also like to use commercial lid scrubs like ocusoft original to start with and sometimes sterilid cream works great. There is one other thing - demodex follicularis - which are little mites in the eyelash follicles. They can cause terrible blepharitis in some people and the doctor needs to look for that.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the prompt reply. Restasis is only available in the U.S. and a prescription is necessary I was told. I am in Montreal. What exactly is in this medication that is so helpful? Can a Canadian cross the border, visit a clinic, and get such a prescription because at this point, I am ready to try just about anything. I see the top ophthamologist at one of the hospitals in Montreal and he told me to search the net for info on SLK as the man runs he has so many patients.
Avatar n tn Hi there. As you know I suffer with both blepharitis and dry eyes.Normally a simple cleaning of the lids will keep both at bay.Every now and (though very rarely) I will get a flare-up,one of which I have had for the past two or three days.I have wiped them as much as possible and am constantly putting drops in but to no avail. It is driving me nuts as if my eyes aren't sore they are feeling gritty.Does a flare-up like this usually go after a few days?
Avatar n tn I have noticed the burning sensation you have discussed. What is the success rate for Restasis for people who have tried it and stuck to the Restasis program.
Avatar f tn I saw an opthomologist at that time and was told I had Blepharitis and was given two Rxs, FML and Azasite. The problem then resurfaced and then I was told it was Rosacea of the eye, but I dont have Rosacea of the skin or anything like that and everything I've read about Rosacea of the eye also shows it being related to the skin condition. The problem is only in my left eye. I also get a blurring feeling in that eye.

Avatar f tn I have had severe dry eyes since last June, including all the symptoms such as stabbing pains when I wake up. After 2 steroid drops, Sooth XP, Freshtears gel at night, and now finally Restasis and Lotemax, I see no improvment. I have been taking the Restasis for 5 months now. If it was going to work, would it have worked by now? I show no signs of improvment. After spending lots of money that is hard for me to come up with, I am at my wits end. Any other suggestions?
429949 tn?1224691579 My doctor prescribed Lotemax drops to be used the first two weeks of starting Restasis treatment. He said it makes the eyes a little less sensitive and increases compliance with the Restasis treatment. I will have to wait until my three month follow up to see if the damage to my eyes have healed. On a previous thread I read that you might have Shrojen's Syndrome. I haven't followed your story, what are your symptoms? I have just recently started researching this for myself.
Avatar m tn Hi there, I have developed dry eye and blepharitis and have been trying various drops which aren't really helpful. My eye consultant suggested eye plugs to try, I am unsure which ones however she said they can be removed if I don't get on with them. I have had two left eye retinal detachments in 2020 and was reluctant to have any further procedures to that eye.
Avatar f tn I also had an infection in the left eye which cleared up with an antibiotic/antiflammatory drug and the Ophthalmalogist then started me on Restasis. The left eye still has pain. Can you still have dry eye with Restasis? Maybe this is the cause of the pain. Also the floaters are still in the left eye. Can the floaters cause pain also?
807912 tn?1242136155 Besides reducing inflammation it makes a lot of other eye problems feel better including dry eye and blepharitis. It also as you know has lots of side effects with long term use. You might use the search feature and read about dry eye and blepharitis. Discuss with your retina MD or general Eye MD. You may need restasis if the problem persists.
Avatar f tn Look into all possible remedies including dietary supplements like flax and fish oil and punctul plugs, restasis, and also look very closely for lid margin disease. Secondly, I'm ver surprised that botox didn't help and it makes me wonder how much experience that doc has with botox for that problem. Suggest you see oculoplastic surgeon who has experience in botox for blepharospasm. In the end it may be a combination of all 3 problems.
Avatar n tn my doc also told me to take some drops that had an antihistamine it it. It counteracted what the Restasis was supposed to do and left me worse off than before. You don't realize how wonderful tears are until they're gone. : ( Good luck!
Avatar m tn In early Oct. 08 it felt like something was in my eye. I flushed it, used drops that may have been expired for some time as we just moved & did not through out all meds. I then flushed it under the tub faucet and it burned for 15-20 secs. I did not feel anything after that, but it has never looked the same. The left eye is redder most of the time and burns & itches from time to time. I'm on Restasis and 50mg of Doxy. I'm 42 yr old male.
429949 tn?1224691579 I have Meibomian gland dysfunction and blepharitis which causes a lot of pain and discomfort in my eyes and eye lids. I did not have either of these conditions prior to the attack, so maybe all of this is indeed related to the immune response that I had. Any thoughts on this from anyone!
Avatar n tn The lid is red and swollen and it hurts. I have been diagnosed with ocular rosacea and blepharitis in the past. The only thing that has worked is doxycycline 50mg 1x/day. My Ophthalmologist and Dermatologist don’t want me taking doxy long term (why I don’t know since it works) and put me on Oracea, which doesn’t do the trick. Does anyone know what these pustules are? How should they be treated?
Avatar m tn I put a punctual plug 2 days ago and it seems doesn't help. The only difference is I when I put a artificial drop, the staying time of the drop increase from 10 min to 20 min. I ordered the Restasis on line but it will not come in 2 weeks plus the kick in time will be at least 1 month. Can the topical corticosteroids like Lotemax be used to treat irritation caused by dry eye ? Is it safe to just use it for a temporary like 2 weeks.
917763 tn?1311628896 Its not like the standard cortico-steroid immune system inhibitors apparently. I have used Restasis for several years (after tx) and found it to be effective for my dry eye problems, after the initial month or two acclimation process. The first month is the worst, with eye reactions, and lots of burning, for many users. Later it seems to have the opposite effect. If it also 'kills' HCV virions, maybe it is an even better choice during tx. I would discuss with your Hepatologist....
Avatar f tn I have seen an opthalmologist and have been told to just keep putting the eye drops in. And since I am trying to get pregnant restasis is not safe. The plugs from what I've been told tend to fall out alot. Thank you for your input. Is the fish oil supplement okay to take? will it help?
429949 tn?1224691579 The Meibomian glands secrete an oil that is essential to the tear film, and they get clogged and stop working correctly. Blepharitis is inflamation of the eyelids. They both are very painful conditions that I have been trying to get under control for two years now! Finally my optho, after seeing that I was having to use too much of the artificial tears to control the symptoms, decided to put me on Restasis. I am already seeing the swelling going down in the eyelash margins of both eyes.
Avatar m tn I am hoping to narrow down the possibilities because I have spent a decent amount of money and have not been able to get the proper answer to solve the problem. The red eyes has lasted for a month or so, my eyes are white through out the day but red/pink when I wake up.
Avatar n tn I am struggling with this disorder (Blepharitis) and don't know where to turn. It is very depressing. I have had a history of blepharitis now for ten years, I am 26 years old, and had tried many different options. I have been on and off doxycylines for periods of up to eight months but they dont seem to help me much so I gave up on them. I have tried baby shampoo and even dilute tea tree oil with water as lid scrubs but they irritate my eyes.
Avatar m tn Im a 23yr old male. I have been seeing halos around lights for about a month now. They started in my right eye a couple of days after a bad case of viral conjuntivitis (pink eye). I went to see an ophtalmologist who told me I had "scars" in my retina and put me on RESTASIS® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.05% and Flarex for two weeks. After a couple of days using the drops the halos disapeared, but they came back about 2 days after I stopped using the drops.
488264 tn?1226520307 I suspect that down the road, if the eyelid problem is improved, then your lashes may make a comeback. Restasis drops and oral doxycycline and oral omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil are all other treatments that can be helpful in select cases.
493068 tn?1224765315 of Doxycycline, Erythromycin Ointment at night and during days of extreme pain. I also use Travatan and use Restasis. and yesterday the opthamologist doctor put me on Lotemax. I can see some better today but still have full blown rosacea in both eyes...To live with pain in your eyes you can not escape it. Do you know of anything we are missing? Thnaks again!
