I had hormonal headaches both times and took Fioricet. It helped so much! I still take it as needed - pms. Without it, I never would have made it 9 months and my doc saw that. My kids are 10 and 7 and perfectly healthy. 'Healthy, happy mommy..healthy, happy babies"!
I have a headache almost everyday of the week and a migraine 2-3 times per month. I only take the Relpax during my migraines and may take tylenol, ibuprofen, or excedrin for my headace without any relief. My MD had spoken with me about taking medicine daily to prevent the occurence of my migraines. I really do not want to take another daily med because I want to have a baby in the next couple of years. The Relpax gives me really bad "jet lag" the whole rest of the day after taking it.
I have the EXACT same thing. I've tried Imitrex tablets (no help since I threw them up), Imitrex Nasel Spray (once again, no help because I threw it up), Imitrex Injection (have you tried this? I couldn't keep taking because of an allergic reaction). Another good option is Relpax. It is a tablet BUT one of the benifits is that it helps with vomiting also. I did fine on this and I'm a huge vomiter (yuck, lack of a better word). Sure wish I had insurance still...
m desperate and have no Relpax, I take Naprosyn and Sudafed, which work somewhat. But these headaches can last for up to four days. Pain meds like Lortab are a complete waste of time: like killing an elephant with a flyswatter. If it were a pinched nerve, you'd think a hard-core narcotic would work...but it doesn't.
Thanks for your help! Prayers to my fellow headache sufferers...I know I'd rather have the flu than a migraine headache (or whatever these things are).
What is the best way to treat migraine, when you've taken the medicine your Dr. has given you, but it's not working? I take Relpax 40 mg., sometime it helps and sometime it doesn't.
Welcome to MedHelp's fibro / CFS forum ! I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and have struggled with migraines (mostly hormonal) for years. There are only two things that I have found that have knocked out my migraines.... massage therapy and a medication called, "Relpax". Relpax is very expensive (even with my co-pay --- $60), but it works wonders for my migraines.
It also helps lesson (not stop) some of my CM symptoms...pain, numbness, tingling, and stiffness in my legs, arms, neck and shoulders. I also use Relpax, as needed, for migraines (which has been on a daily basis for the past week..so much for the KeppraXR). Relpax is the only thing I have found in the past 8 years that works (it turns my migraines back into plain old headaches). I am still trying to pay my medical bills on my own...
I have had migraines for ten years and I take relpax at the onset of a headache, sometimes though it gets to be too often and I cannot take relpax anymore than 3 times a week
I know that my neck has quite a lot of knots and i get a lot of pain from my back especially neck before a migraine and I do believe they start from there.
Does anyone know if physical therapy help migraines? can anyone help in pointing me towards the right thing?
Been on a lot of different meds and nothing seems to truly work. If my headache is an actual migraine, then relpax does work for me. However, I've been having this pressure at the top of my head for weeks now and it has gotten much worse. When I take relpax for it, it makes it a little better, but not 100%. The pain sometimes goes behind my eyes and then I can't even do my job..which is computer related. Now is pain has moved to the back of my head to the right side behind my ear.
3 hours later I still have not experienced a headache. I have been shaky and disoriented but no other problems. I spoke with the pharmacist and she advised me against taking the Relpax unless I feel a headache coming on and I've been drinking gatorade as advised. I know I am not a doctor but I'm not 100% convinced this is just the effects of a migraine or flu. I was in the hospital on friday and still blacking out on Tuesday. I am not a doctor but this is most unusual for me.
I went back to healthcare facility beginning of 3rd week and was tested again for flu and this time blood work and chest x-ray. No infection and no prescriptions. Went straight to ER and they did MRI. No findings and was given another stack of meds to take for one week. This is the beginning of the 4th and I still feel soooo bad and still loss of voice.
Thanks for replying, I have not had imitrex before but have had relpax and fioricet for migraine attacks in the past. And yes, the pain med has nothing to do with the migraine, but for a plethora of other issue....I only mentioned it as that was why I did not think to ask about why they were increasing my dose on the new med. I fully understand about the Tylenol concerns and trust their treatment plan for me.
I dont know if I should call the Dr and ask him if I should start taking 150mg or does anyone think its too early to say (3 wks) I take relpax when they get real bad and that works great, but 4 hrs later...BAM, the pain!!!! So, question is should I call the Dr and suggest or wait until I see him on Feb 21!!!...THANX!
I suffer from almost daily migrianes, constant muscle contraction headaches in my scalp, and chronic tension headaches in base of skull and neck/shoulders. Iv tried preventatives that did nothing but bad side effects. Along with all sorts of pain meds. I currentlly take ibuprofen almost daily as relpax for my migrianes when needed one with a shot of sumatriptan (immetrex) injected in my leg when the relpax fails to work.
I called my neuro to see if there was any way the Relpax could be responsible, and she said it was possible and to discontinue it. Haven't used any since Tuesday anyway.
Today my heart rate seems to be in the low 50's (blood pressure content to stay in the normal range) which has left me feeling dizzy, lightheaded, horrible. Doing almost anything at all is making my heart pound. I'm starting to think this has less to do with the meds and more to do with a messed up heart.
I am wondering if cramps/muscle contraction/muscle rigidity/spams can occur in the head and cause so much pain? I take Relpax which helps when i have the most severe headache but after a short while my headache returns. I have pain that starts from the back of the head, it spreads to other areas often. Sometimes the pain starts in front of the head and in the middle or top of the head.
