Well, I would ask your liver doctor about it but, are you on tx? I took a plethora of drugs on tx, including two different ad's and nobody, including two different hepatologists, seemed to have a problem with it. Of course, my liver enzymes were high as all get out from the time I got hcv in July of 2007 until the time I finished treatment, but then they resolved back to my pre-hcv levels which are extremely low. teens or twenties, something like that.
There are also some differences in how they are eliminated from the body (100% in the liver for prozac, 64% in the kidney and 36% in the liver for paxil).
Prozac and paxil are both ssri's. They also have a lot of similarities.

I am wondering though if your liver disease changed how the liver normally handles Prozac? If Prozac normally blocks a pathway through the liver which allows the stim med to back up - I am wondering if a liver that is not functioning too well would still work the same way? Certainly agree that trying a lower dose is worth doing.
I started caring for a brother who is waiting for a kidney/liver transplant. I read where Prozac might not be good for anxiety that it may cause anxiety? Also I read where there are other medications better for someone my age. I read if you are 65 or older there are better medications for our age group? I don't know a thing about Effexor and trust prozac since I was on it once before in the past. Not sure what to think?
I just recently stopped taking Prozac and it was 10ml and I stopped taking them 4 days ago. How long should I wait for it to be safe for me to drink alcohol again?
I am bipolar with more depression than anything. I've been on effexor with Tegretol and it's not working....so we're changing from effexor to either prozac or lithium. I don't know which one I should try....I'm tired and have no libido. The side effects of Prozac are just that. But Lithium has more dangerous side effects. I need help deciding!
I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?
I should note these are not discontinuation symptoms and are not symptoms I experienced prior to starting Prozac. They started due to the Prozac. I know it may take longer to disappear than other SSRIs due to its longer half-life.
I was diagnosed with ocd and was prescribed Prozac. But I am not taking it for the fear of side effects and withdrawl issues. Hi, don't worry about leukemia. The way that blood cancers cause easy bruising is that they reduce the number of platelets down to 50 or even much, much lower. Platelets are used in blood clotting. Your platelet count is well within normal.
Another possible cause is when the blood's "clotting proteins" are not being produced enough. They are produced in the liver, so that's why your liver was tested.
Can anyone let me know if Rozerem 8mg (RX sleep aid) and Prozac 20 mg (antidepressant) are safe to take with methadone (15mg daily) I am detoxing after 15 years on MMT and have slowly "tapered" my dose from 60mg daily to 15mg daily. I am having some insomnia & depression/antiety issues related to my husband being on the waiting list for a liver transplant. Just want to make sure i'm not gonna "croak" if I take the other meds.
Hi all just wished to find out from others past experience of the drug how long one should expect to experience withdrawal effects from prozac. Been off prozac myself for 2 1/2 weeks after changing to mirtazapine and now have buily up to an 45mg dose after 8 1/2 weeks but i'm experiencing a range of strange sensations over this whole period.

I'm 12 days into taking 10 mg of Prozac after struggling for several months with reoccurring Panic Attacks that morphed into Panic Disorder. I'm taking steps to improve my life, working out more, trying to eat better, and educating myself on the disorder and how to relax. One of those steps has been cutting back on how much/frequently I drink.
However, I do enjoy the social element of having a few beers and today I'm hosting a party.
ve had this tingling feeling under the right side of my rib cage — around where my liver is. When I try to look it up, the only “tingling” that comes up relates to hands and feet. I have no sensations there. I have no jaundice anywhere that I can tell. I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke. I'm a little overweight (5′8″, 170). I have type 2 diabetes but it's pretty much under control. I take Prozac for anxiety and depression but have taken it for a few years and I feel fine.
Is there a relation to this and liver or kidney disease? I have this every day now -especially at night . Meds- none new but I do take atenolol rapid heart beat .Ambien. lipitor, prozac.325 mg. aspirin, daily. The finger tips bother me most. Both hands started at the same time so I doubt because of this that it would be carpal tunnel? i was tested for diabetes recently and it was negative =.there is a family history .
My son wanted to get off antidepressants so the doctor suggested he go on prozac to counteract the wd from effexor.....(75mg) prozacs half life is 5 weeks , while effexors is less than 24 hours...so it's really hard to go off it especially if you have been on it for a while...even if they lower the dose to wean you it's pretty bad....withdrawal is awful. He's never been on Lexapro so I can't tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal.
This is typical -- psychiatrists in general, and I've seen a lot over many years of this crap, are pretty lazy. I learned about it because the manufacturer of Cymbalta is seeking FDA approval for using the med for pain and the liver deaths have come out. This isn't unheard of -- tricyclics have for years been difficult for some and you have to get your liver tested regularly when you're on them, but they don't for Cymbalta.
He suffers from mild agoraphobia and was originally prescribed Prozac. He had side-effects and to that and was prescribed Paxil and is concerned about developing side-effects to this as well. The only time that he is symptomatic is when standing in formation on a parade ground -- far from a daily occurance. It concerns him that he has been prescribed a daily, long-term medication to deal with a something that happens only occasionally.
Does anyone have any ideas on what meds I can try other than Depakote, Cymbalta, and Geodon? What experience have people had with prozac? I'm thinking that a change in antidepressant is what I need. I will be switching to another psychiatrist soon, because my current one is leaving his practice. Hopefully I will get a new start on some new meds that can help me.
