prozac generic form

I have been on both Prozac and generic Prozac in the past. I thought it was just a coincidence but the brand name Prozac worked much better than the generic for me. My doctor confirmed this and said she didn't believe the generic form was as effective. Anyone else have any experience with this?

Hi tomskat, I just posted on the depression forum that I noticed a difference in Prozac and the generic form (fluxientine sp?) Prozac worked wonderfully for me were the generic form didn't do me any good. I spoke with my doctor (not the one who perscribed either med to me) about this and she agreed and said the generic Prozac is not as effective. Hope this helps.

I went to the doc yesterday and he prescribed me Celexa, well the generic form. It was the scariest side effect list I ever saw. I just started them today.I am wondering if anyone has any of the sexual side effects? Prozac was the first med I was given about 2 years ago and I felt dead to the world and had terrible sexual side effects. I had to stop them. My doc said I may get them since Celexa is in the same category of meds. If I do then we can try something else.

Like you i am on Wellbutrin 150 mg amd 20mg of Prozac i do well on both have been for 2 yrs now. The prozac makes me tired i tried no prozac and 1 wellbutrin in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I had more energy but i was snapping at everyone and being hateful so went back on the prozac my Dr. said the prozac dosnt make you tired but my body says the different.

Prozac has been generic for a very long time, there are several companies now making generic versions. Precisely which were your before and after brands of generic prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?

I was wondering if anyone takes or has taken the generic prozac that is white and has green writing saying "pliva". It is a capsule that comes in 20 or 10mg. If so, any success? Please let me know, thanks.

Try the generic version of prozac..called fluoxetine. It comes in white tablets. Pills and capsules seem to vary in their effects with this medication.

They stopped making this particular generic and I had to begin another generic form. I felt nauseated, stopped sleeping, and had headaches. I then tried a couple of other buproprion meds such as wellbutrin and Wellbutrin XL at a low dose, for a few days. Eventually, my pharmacist found more of my regular generic buproprion and I started back on it. I took it for two weeks, and I felt horrible - burning, tingling arms and legs, can't concentrate etc.

Lamictal is available in generic form. With antipsychotics the latest one that is available in generic form is Risperdal. However there should be insurance options such as Medicaid or if you are working and its available in your state the Medicaid Buy in for Working People with Disabilities.

I am on Armour natural thyroid, am about settled on a correct dose for that. I also have depression but am taking Prozac for that. Almost every day I about have to sleep for 2 or 3 hrs every afternoon. Any ideas on what I can do for that problem?? I had a sleep study done & it said I have restless legs. My family dr. wanted me to take Requip for it, but I am resisting doing that. I guess if it really helped with the daytime tiredness, I would.

In January, my MD directed me on how to wean myself from Effexor XR...so I could begin a generic form of Celexa. My God. If this is what withdrawal is like, I am fortunate that I never abused drugs. Hot flashes and sweats; the zinging in my head that I've read others describing, crying, nausea. Happily, the drug-related constipation has ended. Dizzyness and then a BAD migraine - and a ride from work to the ER. I tapered off with weekly decreases...dropped to 150mg for one week...

I was hoping you might add "anti-depressant" to the treatment section. I'm currently taking Fluvoxamine (Luvox) so I'm using "prozac" as a stand in, but I think a generic option for anti-depressants, or SSRIs would be helpful.

I was taking 40 mg prozac, 60 mg dexedrine, and taking xanex as needed. I just changed the prozac to 150 mg effexor, because my Insurance co. wouldn't let me continue getting brand name prozac (the generic brand didn't work the same. I had no problem changing over to effexor, no withdrawal effects from prozac. What made you get off the meds? That's wonderful you are no longer depressed. I don't think I will ever get off the anti-depressants.

At the time, my doctor informed not to take the generic form of Synthroid. I recently switched pharmacists who prescribed a generic form, Levothyroxine. After a few days of taking the medication, I noticed I had become extremely fatigued all day long and have also recently noticed irritability. Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.

Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.

I found out at the doctor's office today that Provigil is going generic. Good news/bad news. Bad news is that my insurance has never approved Provigil but my doctor always had a plenty of samples for me. Now, no more samples. Has anyone tried the generic Provigil? I've been given the new Nuvigil to try for a week. If that also works then we will fight my insurance company for that. Just checking to see if anyone has tried the new medicine or the generic form.

I never had anxiety till I started taking Prozac, Im taking Prozac for severe depression but ever since being on it anxiety has been my major problem, I can't go a day without a panic attack or feeling sick due to anxiety, I'm throwing up from anxiety at least once a week and I'm constantly trembling and shaking and having paranoid thoughts. Prozac destroyed more than it fixed for me.
