provigil is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleeping. i have never heard of someone taking this for taking the edge off when quitting coke. although they have tested a new drug for cocaine addiction, it has not been approved by the fda yet. i used for coke for 5 years very heavily and went c/t as the physical w/d's from coke are so minimul, but it is the mental part that is devastaing. have you tried n/a meetings, counselling.
I am wanting so answers regarding ADD in adults. What are the major symptoms? Does it get more severe with age?
My Focus in high school was very difficult. I could not focus in class at all. It is strange because I was voted the outstanding athlete of the year in my graduating high school class. Today many years later i am full of fear when it comes to learning..................

It looks like you are going to somehow try and find a psychiatrist that specializes in adult ADHD. The point is that you are not being treated for ADD, but for anxiety which the ADD could be causing (very common). The problem is - as "Crazy meds" points out - Paxil is difficult to stop. So you will definitely need someone who can help you in slowly cutting down. Heck, I have said this all before.

Before considering which medications might help, you will want to find out if you meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD or a specific learning disability. Keep in mind that the symptoms you report could be happening for many reasons, ADHD being only one possibility. A psychologist, neuropsychologist or doctor of education can do a psychological evaluation (series of tests) that will determine a diagnosis.
For people with ADHD, who follow their prescription there is no addiction problems or W/Ds. The problem for you would be if you have to keep upping your dose - although a good doc would not let that happen.
The stimulant medications are used by people with narcolepsy for long periods of time. The military has certainly used it for a long time.

Even after I have reinforced extensively that she should not to hug small children withing out asking their parents, not to hug adults (except for her family), and to ask her friends for hugs, within minutes, she forgets. We had this conversation today and when we went to pick up her little sister from daycare, she immediately went to hug another 2.5 year old.
