Provigil for adhd

Common Questions and Answers about Provigil for adhd

provigil

1710955 tn?1309446473 Are there any other meds for fatigue besides provigil? The reason I ask is because for the drug interactions for provigil says don't take if you're on beta blockers or amitriptline (sp). Which of course I'm on both. Thanks for any suggestions in advance. I see my pcp on Wednesday, and I want to be ahead of the game!
620048 tn?1358018235 I have found that the Provigil is good for addressing my attention, my generalized and milder vertigo symptoms, and other cog stuff.
429700 tn?1308007823 I don't have MS (so it appears), but I have quite a few similar symptoms, including dizziness and the related brain fog and fatigue. Back in 2000, neuro prescribed Provigil, saying "we used to use Ritalin for this" but that Provigil is now favored because of fewer side effects. Provigil was very helpful for both fatigue and cognition, although I didn't like the late-afternoon "letdown" effect I got with it. It was rather unpleasant.
Avatar m tn For people with ADHD, who follow their prescription there is no addiction problems or W/Ds. The problem for you would be if you have to keep upping your dose - although a good doc would not let that happen. The stimulant medications are used by people with narcolepsy for long periods of time. The military has certainly used it for a long time. I would think/hope that your MS doc has some insights into this. You cannot be the only one in the world to have these challenges.
18004103 tn?1462248643 I had to stumble to the neighbors house and ask for help. I went through a full work up (scans, blood work etc) and follow up visits with neurologist, the final word was I had a TIA. A mild suggestion to maybe start an aspirin regiment was suggested. I was 27. I should add I chewed tobacco during this time and I also used adhd medication. Since this incident occurred I quit both. After a few years I slowly began using a small does of adhd meds and I began hormone rep. therapy (TRT).
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken Provigil for the extreme fatigue of fibro? It is not one of the conditions listed for it's use. But if it helps with extreme fatigue in other conditions, why wouldn't it help in fibro. Thinking about asking my PCP about it next time I'm in to see him.
429700 tn?1308007823 I'm starting Wellbutrin for ADHD.
Avatar f tn Maybe you could get on something else like provigil. It is also for ADHD but is not as strong and is popular among older patients diagnosed later in life. Look it up and do some research on your own about different treatment options and meds.
Avatar m tn Hi, I gave up on my. Pdoc. I saw my neuro , and asked for provigil for ms fatigue. Works great!!! And no side effects. It has improved my add and lo and behold my anxiety got lost.
Avatar f tn Medicine is what I meant to say! I'm getting used to typing on an iPad...it fills in words that I don't want sometimes...
Avatar f tn s what your discussing. Most medications for ADD or ADHD are stimulants of one sort or another, and prescriptions for stimulants are often used to combat MS-related fatigue. I believe several of our community members use Provigil in this capacity. I don't have fatigue to that extent, so coffee usually does the trick. Hopefully folks with personal experience will chime in.
1627868 tn?1333886342 I have also seen some of the ADHD drugs helpful for fatigue. Ritalin, for instance. This is by prescription, as well. That's all that I can think of at the moment. Maybe some other members can throw in other ideas. No supplements or OTC meds come to my mind for fatigue, either. Welcome to our forum. I am sorry you are experiencing fatigue. It truly can be quite debilitating. I hope this helps and good luck with your neuro visit.
789572 tn?1334424879 Hey there, You might discuss Provigil or one of its clones with your doctor; I’ve heard of HCV patients in treatment taking it for staying alert. I believe it’s labeled for shift workers (also fighter pilots), among other things. I know what you mean about fatigue; I was trying to work pre-treatment, and ended up napping in the cab of my truck some days. I hope you find something to help you out soon; are you in Anchortown?
Avatar m tn For all practical purposes I have been bed ridden for the past 2 months. That is when he suggested Provigil. I have not heard of this on the forum. Anybody know anything as it relates to Hepc tx? Of course I have googled it. He made me another appointment in 4 weeks(a miracle in itself!) to see how it was working and talk more of 24 week treatment.Any comments welcome.
Avatar f tn So far Provigil has mostly been beneficial for me . . . it usually gives me the energy and focus I need to get some things (but not all) done. But yesterday and today I just can't seem to focus on anything. It is SO frustrating . . . I think I have the energy to do things . . . but I don't know where to start . . . or I begin something only to be sidetracked to another.
Avatar f tn T7GOdb_evNo It looks like you are going to somehow try and find a psychiatrist that specializes in adult ADHD. The point is that you are not being treated for ADD, but for anxiety which the ADD could be causing (very common). The problem is - as "Crazy meds" points out - Paxil is difficult to stop. So you will definitely need someone who can help you in slowly cutting down. Heck, I have said this all before.
968560 tn?1307451498 I checked with the provigil,my insurance wont cover it and even that they have a generic available for provigil (modafil) the price for the generic without insurance is $167 a month 200mg a day.My hepa said all stimulants have the potential for abuse Didrex is a class III schedule and is less addictive than the addrerall or the ritilan(which he cant write for anyway. Didrex was approved by the FDA in 1960 as a Central Nerve stimulant. The normal dosage is 2-50mg tabs daily and costs $22.
405614 tn?1329144114 I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you, that they will approve Provigil for you. You would think with all the advertisements for the med that the Dr would have samples to give you until your insurance approves it. Thats how I get my Lidoderm patches, he just saves them out for me and I drop by the office and voila I have a brown paper bag of relief. I would cut off my feet (just kidding) to get something to lift the brain fog.... Good luck with all the insurance stuff....
Avatar f tn The reason that I have a fear of more memory damage or brain damage from certain meds is that while searching for medications to help with memory I have come across information that certain medications like aderall and others can actually cause memory damage with long term use, plus I already have memory problems due to SCT, long term uncontrolled type 1 diabetes, but is now controlled with insulin, major depression which is being treated with citalopram, hypothyroidism which is being treated w
572735 tn?1217201019 anything else i can take for my fatigue other than provigil? it gave me migraines! HELP ME!!!!!!!!!I'm tired of Being tired! And sick of being Sick!!!!
405614 tn?1329144114 The side effects look a lot worse than those listed for Provigil. I wonder how long the patent on Provigil lasts, and when there will be a generic form? Does anyone else have trouble getting medications that they need or that are really helpful in improving your quality of life? Ess and I discussed on another thread how both our insurances only allow you to get half a month's worth of Ambien. Are we only supposed to sleep every other day?
Avatar n tn although they have tested a new drug for cocaine addiction, it has not been approved by the fda yet. i used for coke for 5 years very heavily and went c/t as the physical w/d's from coke are so minimul, but it is the mental part that is devastaing. have you tried n/a meetings, counselling. quitting this drug is a devil to quit and as of now, there is now pill that will help as i know of.
649926 tn?1297657780 Hi Everyone - Hope you are all well :) I just started Ritalin last week to give me more energy and help me with my decling cognition. I was on Amantadine for the energy and it didn't even make a difference. Instead of trying Provigal the docs thought that Ritalin would give me energy AND help with focus/cognition. Well I feel so sick, dizzy, stomach upset, shaky, it's awful, BUT if I stay on task and don't stop I really can be productive and accomplish lots of things.
Avatar f tn I tried Provigil last summer with high hopes, after wrangling my insurer over it--it's expensive. Alas, it didn't do diddley for me. Maybe Ampyra will help me. I'm exhausted all the time.
