Common Questions and Answers about Provigil study

provigil

429700 tn?1308007823 After all this time, three years at least, my insurance company is no longer approving me for Provigil. This drug is the one thing that I've taken that has made a huge impact on the quality of my life. Without it, I'm unable to think clearly and I'm too fatigued to get up out of bed or off the couch. I may have to retire on disability because there's no way I will be able to teach. The drug also helps with the ADD (diagnosed after the MS as an adult, LOL).
Avatar f tn popular with young people may carry more of an addiction risk than thought, a small government study suggests. Scans of 10 healthy men showed that the prescription drug Provigil caused changes in the brain's pleasure center, very much like potentially habit-forming classic stimulants. Modafinil, the drug's generic name, is sometimes used as an illegal study aid by college students.
Avatar f tn s still the sleep study (!) and some supplements that could potentially help. I’d go for the sleep study even if you don’t think you could tolerate CPAP. It could rule out a sleep disorder as the cause of LOTS of problems. You could even surprise yourself and decide it is worth wearing the thing for the benefit of being awake for the rest of your life :) Good luck.
956292 tn?1334054869 Hi, To answer your question: No I haven't heard of the sleep study for MS. My MS specialist and neurologist KNOW I experience pretty severe fatigue and they never once mentioned to have a sleep study done. (they don't know I had a sleep study or that I use the CPAP) forgot to mention it to them... I had a sleep study done back in April, before my MS symptoms began...(I was dx with asthma.... the pulmonologist asked if I had fatigue or did I snore..
5509293 tn?1428531475 This is my first day on Provigil, taking 200 mg this morning. This is an attempt to replace Adderall 15 to 30 mg per day. Provigil walloped my blood pressure. It dropped by 10 points when I check 12 hours after taking the first dose. I've been lethargic most of today. I finally took an Adderall so I could function.
572651 tn?1530999357 A co-worker called this week with a question about our insurance - she was denied provigil/nuvigil, even though her doctor contacted the insurance company and appealed the decision. She suffers great fatigue and the sample helped her a lot. She was wondering if I had any clues as to how others get this drug approved since it is not an MS drug.
620048 tn?1358018235 by the way, i do use provigil or else i dont function well at all.
Avatar f tn t need RLS medicine, to increase my provigil, and that the neuro will talk about my sleep study at my follow-up appointment, which is a month from now. This sleep study was done with my taking provigil daily.... I learned the hard way that waiting to take it until I was so sleepy I couldn't function doesn't work. I am the primary bread winner in my household. I have a teenager and a special needs child. I have a job I love. I am NOT crazy.
Avatar m tn I have undergone a sleep study, a rather expensive test if you are not covered by insurance. But on the inexpensive side, my primary care doctor prescribed an overnight recording oximeter test - this led to the sleep study. My concern from what you've told us is I believe there is a danger of suffocation due to apnea, and I'd think taking Ambein would increase the risk.. I'm just guessing.
1142551 tn?1264736930 Provigil is more expensive and I actually had more side effects with Provigil. Nuvigil is the 2nd generation of Provigil and the manufacturer has lowered the price to get everyone "switched" before the patent on Provigil expires in 2011. For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning. And since Provigil is "going away" it is tough to even get samples.
Avatar f tn No snoring or sleep apnea-like symptoms per family and husband. I started taking Provigil a couple of months ago.... now I'm ok for a few hours and then back to the same old fatigue. Now I'm scheduled for a sleep study, and more labs.... sed rate, EBV titer, and lyme just to complete the million-dollar workup. I'm frustrated, and would be angry except I don't have the energy to sustain the effort to be angry, lol. SO... my question..... Has anyone had RLS/PLMD...
Avatar f tn It's been a rough two weeks. The Provigil worked well at the start. I was like my old self. It was amazing. Then after a few days I noticed by the end of the week that my heart was beating erratically. I reduced the dose and the heart palpatations went away. However now I notice that my left eye is blurry. At first I was trying to adjust to my glasses and several times, sure enough, there was a spot on the glasses.
398059 tn?1447945633 I read that some of you use provigil or whatever and some other drugs for fighting fatigue. What are the good, the bad, and the ugly on using them?
Avatar n tn After explaining to my doctor that I am always sleepy, never feel rested, little energy or motivation, lack of concentration and irritability I did a day sleep study. I took four 25 minute naps an hour and a half apart. On the average I fell asleep within 4 minutes and reach REM sleep on three of the four naps. Since then I've been taking 200mg of Provigil/day, but not feeling better.
794366 tn?1418009395 Modafinal a/k/a. Armodafinal or provigil. Same thing, but my original dosage, to get me through the day was 1000 I now take Armodafinal 250 mlg, 3 times a day.
Avatar f tn How do I suggest to my PCP that I would like Provigil or Adderall for my EXTREME fatigue, to the poing of falling asleep while driving, without seeming to be drug seeking.? I have got to have something, I drive for a living! I am so afraid of having a wreck, but I can't tell my job I have this problem. I have to have this job for the insurance, since if I went on disability I couldn't get medicare for 2 years, and how do you pay for insurance on the pittance you get for disability?
Avatar f tn Look up Provigil- you should get a sleep study done too. If you have trouble with your doctors find a new one.
Avatar f tn I would also suggest a sleep-study test. In trying to find a diagnosis, no doctors wanted to even consider I possibly had anything else until I had the tests from the endocrinologist, the sleep study, and had seen a psychiatrist. (I have been on antidepressants for years. The doctors thought that one of the ones I was on could have been causing the fatigue. I went through 6 months of weening off one, then another until I finally got on my current prescription.
Avatar f tn I am photosensitive, although high-pitched sounds can also cause seizures. I also have narcolepsy. I take tegretol and provigil. I took dexedrine for over 20 years. Two years ago I was told I have a 'progresive degenerative brain disorder'. My brain was atrophying. I was almost always confused. Did things like turn on the water in the kitchen and go shopping for 5 hours. Stuff like that.
Avatar m tn m leery of docs who would order Provigil or similar drug based on an assumption before doing a full evaluation, including a sleep study. It could be that the patient unkowingly has sleep apnea or some other sleep disorder that is impeding restorative sleep and causing daytime fatigue. Fatigue is a side effect of many meds used to treat other MS symptoms. If that's the case, other meds should be explored which may cause less of this side effect.
572651 tn?1530999357 Hypothetically,I understand why people do this, but I'm to much a coward. in the United States, Provigil is a Schedule IV controlled substance, which means it's illegal to import it from a foreign source. Being caught without a rx could be 5 years and 200,000 fine. Just a thought to add to the musings.
