provigil

1831920 tn?1320857757 I have heard a lot of good things about things about provigil in treating depression if coupled with an antidepressent. Has anyone tried this? I am having a hard time functioning. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am new to this forum so I'll tell you a little about myself. I was diagnosed bipolar II about 20 years ago and medication has effectively done away with my hypo-manias but I am still plagued with depression. I had everything semi under control for a number of years and as I was a rapid cycler I could just ride the depressions out. But 4 or 5 years ago one of my children got into meth and our lives went out of control.
Avatar f tn first let me ask what is your diagnois? i am taking 2 types of meds for adhd and depression (these are needed) but i am trying to find an alternative meds (homepathic root)or something more natural. not easy to do. but 8 kinds wow!! always be aware and research your meds before the dr puts you on something. drs are happy go lucky with meds when all you can do is either take them or research them.
Avatar m tn I started by calling the pharmaceutical company to inquire about assistance, but they have canceled their Provigil assistance program and also told me that depression is one of the few illnesses for which they do not provide assistance anyway. I then looked into other assistance programs, but they require enrollees to be without insurance, and giving up my health insurance is just not practical.
Avatar f tn To: anyone I am bi-polar and after strong consideration my doc she put me on adderall, so I could wake up during the day.. but with strong consideration mind you, and 4 years of being stable but it was still depressed but less depressed.. I had been on plenty of different meds and we found a combination that worked but barley..It was the best the docs could do so I went on adderall to wake up the depression was low but my energy was severly low.
401095 tn?1351391770 Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...
1310035 tn?1305621642 Sometimes getting on something temporarily to give you more energy, like an ADHD medication (Ritalin etc.) or Provigil can help reduce the depression enough for you to have the energy to make positive changes. Exercise is great for lifting depression. So is eating more veggies! Have your folate levels checked. Eat foods rich in folate - like asparagus etc. Higher folate levels help defeat depression. Stay away from concentrated sweets - candies, cookies, cakes etc.
934553 tn?1275274379 And the provigil and neurontin may make you feel better in some ways but they are not recommended to treat depression. Provigil will help with energy and stamina. Neurontin handles neuropathic pain. Of course having no energy and having pain can make us depressed, but I have to question her overall logic. The comment about the DMD's is what casts that huge doubt of her worth in my mind. The drugs she says she is waiting for are either Gilenya, which is already here.
Avatar f tn If I need quick short bursts of energy I take Ritalin if I need to stay awake and alert all day I take Provigil. Provigil is safe and it really works wonders. I think in the U.K. in generic so much cheaper there than in the US. You may want to ask about it since those drinks are full of stuff out bodies don't really need. I smoke so I'm not preaching what to do or not to do just a suggestion that works for me.
1142551 tn?1264736930 Provigil is more expensive and I actually had more side effects with Provigil. Nuvigil is the 2nd generation of Provigil and the manufacturer has lowered the price to get everyone "switched" before the patent on Provigil expires in 2011. For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning. And since Provigil is "going away" it is tough to even get samples.
479581 tn?1317757488 Provigil to release their patient, or whatever. Most of the time it take 2 -3 years, but Provigil has been out since 99, with no one else scoping up the generic type. I can't afford 200 bucks a month on on pill...
Avatar m tn t help, they try something else and only as last resort will they Rx provigil, due to cost and health issues(heart depression, etc)
Avatar m tn I would like to warn you, I was getting all these symptoms being the sole caregiver of my parents, mom with a stroke, and dad with a blend of Alzheimer's, Bipolar, and Senile Dementia. I was there several years before my doctor did give me provigil. The thing is, I wished I would have known that what I had was caregiver burnout, and I didn't need more energy to use up to get a longer period of burnout, I needed someone to help me.
8899291 tn?1407195461 There are different kinds of mood disorders, not just depression or bipolar disorder. There are also subcategories...
Avatar f tn The patient is taking Lamictal for depression and Provigil for narcolepsy (EDS) diagnosed via MSLT.
Avatar n tn My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days. About 10 days after he refills the prescription he starts sleeping, all day and night, almost constantly, until the refill date and then this pattern starts all over.
2190999 tn?1504988891 I have read that one difference between general depression and bipolar depression is a persons energy level. It's a matter of feeling unable to perform even the simplest daily tasks because of overwhelming fatigue, instead of the general depressive sadness, hopelessness, ambivalence, etc. Does that make sense to anyone? Another difference is the depth of depression. The suicide rate for bipolar disorder is considerably higher than general depression rates.
Avatar n tn her doctor that will be treating the disease is starting her on provigil. i did some research online and it seems to be pretty safe and has a lower probability of addiction is far less than the other options... the constant fatigue seems to be her biggest day to day issue. minus the depression and anxiety but that is getting much better since she went into treatment...has anyone ever used provigil or knows someone that has? any noticable side effects? and cautions you would give?
Avatar n tn which is why i dont feel too bad about being so sneaky, i looked up everything in the cabinets and they all lead to treatments of depression or other bipolar symptoms. the researching started about 2 months ago...when i learned all about mania and euphoric behavior...afterwards I started noticing the extravagant purchases like a new souped up car, and online ordering...etc. he see's a therapist twice a week, my god I wish to be a fly on the wall!!!
Avatar f tn If your not happy don't except it. Excessive sleeping is something that is very common with people suffering from bipolar disorder, it's because depression comes with being bipolar. I think you should go talk to a therapist or a psychologist maybe they could find a better lower combination of medication. Also bipolar disorder is extremely hard to live with so I'm sure you could use someone in your life who job it is to listen and help you mentally.
Avatar f tn and compounding conditions like POTS can throw a wrench in... then having bipolar depression/mania adds yet another complexity and "sensitizes" you to things even more. I think its good to stay on top of it, but give yourself a little slack too assuming signs are not getting too extreme. Have friends & family expressed concern too at this point? Have you continued counseling along with medication related to the bipolar?
Avatar f tn m not having the drowsy side effects that you speak of, but then I do take my bipolar meds at night, which seems to decrease any sleepiness I might have. Also my doctor prescribed a medication called Provigil to help counteract the drowsiness caused by my medications because I do take several and all of them may cause drowsiness. Perhaps you can research Provigil and see if that may be an option for you, I know it has helped me tremendously. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar & have pretty bad anxiety. I'd been off meds for awhile & don't wanna be on them again until Kyri is born b/c of the side effects. It seems that pregnancy has made my depression much worse. Has this happened to anyone else & what do u do to make it better. Thanks.
918275 tn?1254068752 Provigil is used sometimes if a person is sedated from medication but that's just if a person sleeps late into the day. This is more of concern. Abilify is usually activating not sedating although it can be sedating. Before my current recovery I was on practically every known antipsychotic and although there were ones that made me sleep late into the day I never slept for a whole day, let alone 4 or 5 days. I would strongly suggest seeing a neurologist and getting a sleep test done.
Avatar f tn My old doctor left recently and I have a new doctor who put me on Provigil. It was disastrous. I cried constantly and felt exhausted after small spurts of energy. I couldnt focus and I was nervous. I was very depressed, also. After this, she thought about putting me back on the drug I abused a few years ago, Adderall. Of course, my eyes lit up. I loved this drug. It worked wonderfully for me. I ended up putting it up my nose. She knows my history.
797195 tn?1240579823 I've been on both Provigil and Nuvigil. There is NO comparison. Nuvigil is hands down MUCH more effective to me than Provigil. Provigil always gave me a "rush" upper feeling. It felt like I was a little high. Provigil, on the other hand, is a slow and gradual release. I take it in the morning, and within an hour or so, I notice I can just concentrate better and am less tired. Its very gradual and lasts a lot longer than Provigil.
Avatar f tn I have been recently diagnosed with ADHD, I have been on a myriad of meds for bipolar which have never worked. I have been given Adderall the first day 5 mg had put in a chair eyes closed calm as a cucumber, I don't think I have ever not been on edge in my life. Taking 5mg twice a day the first day I was surprised at my focus and my racing obsessive thoughts were gone, yeah! Problem, simple everyday tasks, chores are impossible. I could sit all day.
Avatar m tn Hi, I noticed that no one had answered you yet, perhaps it is because there may be no clear cut answer to your question. I am sorry that you are suffering from recurrent depression. I do as well. Has your doctor talked to you about any of the various "bipolar" issues? The classic "bipolar" or "manic-depression" illness has alternating moods of depression and high-euphoria.
