Provigil for bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Provigil for bipolar

provigil

1831920 tn?1320857757 I am on several meds for my bipolar and depression. One of my major side effects was sleeping most of the day away, which I could not shake for the pastt 2 years. My doctor put me on Provigil about a year or two ago, but I rarely would take it because it made me very hyper and nervous. Now I started taking it regularly (only 1/2 of my 100 mg tablet per day) and am very awake and extremely talkative.
Avatar f tn If I need quick short bursts of energy I take Ritalin if I need to stay awake and alert all day I take Provigil. Provigil is safe and it really works wonders. I think in the U.K. in generic so much cheaper there than in the US. You may want to ask about it since those drinks are full of stuff out bodies don't really need. I smoke so I'm not preaching what to do or not to do just a suggestion that works for me.
Avatar m tn It is also prescribed for extreme fatigue, but if it is not prescribed for the 3 things that the FDA has given approval for, insurance will not approve it. I took Provigil for about a year, I was on suboxone at the time, which can cause excessive sleepyness, but it was more than that. In the end, I was tested for sleep apnea and ended up being diagnosed with RLS, which can cause the same symptoms. The provigil worked great, but like Eagle said, it is very expensive.
1710955 tn?1309446473 Are there any other meds for fatigue besides provigil? The reason I ask is because for the drug interactions for provigil says don't take if you're on beta blockers or amitriptline (sp). Which of course I'm on both. Thanks for any suggestions in advance. I see my pcp on Wednesday, and I want to be ahead of the game!
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken Provigil for the extreme fatigue of fibro? It is not one of the conditions listed for it's use. But if it helps with extreme fatigue in other conditions, why wouldn't it help in fibro. Thinking about asking my PCP about it next time I'm in to see him.
Avatar f tn I have six drugs prescribed for bipolar but I just dropped three and added one so I was on eight for about a year. Other people I correspond with also take many drugs.
Avatar f tn Perhaps you can research Provigil and see if that may be an option for you, I know it has helped me tremendously. Good luck!
Avatar f tn My old doctor left recently and I have a new doctor who put me on Provigil. It was disastrous. I cried constantly and felt exhausted after small spurts of energy. I couldnt focus and I was nervous. I was very depressed, also. After this, she thought about putting me back on the drug I abused a few years ago, Adderall. Of course, my eyes lit up. I loved this drug. It worked wonderfully for me. I ended up putting it up my nose. She knows my history.
Avatar f tn Medicine is what I meant to say! I'm getting used to typing on an iPad...it fills in words that I don't want sometimes...
Avatar f tn Sorry it's taken so long for you to be getting close to answers. I am not dx'd but I have been dealing with fatigue. I posted recently about this "Fatigue and Flares." The result for me was a prescription for amantadine. I was told if it doesn't work, they'll try something else. So really you should be able to get something to help with fatigue before a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was originally diagnosed bipolar, then they switched me to schizoaffective bipolar type. As a child, I was never much of a sleeper (at sleepovers I was always last to sleep a first to wake.) But depression really does suck the energy right out of me. I've also noticed that I seem to be more affected by the fatigue as I get older (not to mention the memory problems!) As for coping with it, I haven't learned very well how to yet.
765921 tn?1240405239 I am just concerned about treatment now, my fatigue is probably my most bothersome symptom, I have deal with the pain all the time, but the fatigue affects my family, and I have bipolar disorder and am concerned about the drugs they use for the fatigue portion. The neuro wants to give me samples of Provigil, but I am not sure how that will affect my mood. Also, I am concerned about Lyrica, which was another drug he mentioned, but said it could make my fatigue worse.
Avatar f tn Ugh! I've been on provigil for the last couple of months, and have felt better than I have in a year and a half. Then, I realize that getting up at 4:30 in the morning is NOT a norm for me. I stopped the provigil for a couple of days and BAM!, I feel awful again. Now I'm wondering, have I been manic(I am bi-polar)? Is this just the chronic fatigue again? My BP goes up when I'm on the provigil and I don't even take my midodrine.
Avatar m tn For all practical purposes I have been bed ridden for the past 2 months. That is when he suggested Provigil. I have not heard of this on the forum. Anybody know anything as it relates to Hepc tx? Of course I have googled it. He made me another appointment in 4 weeks(a miracle in itself!) to see how it was working and talk more of 24 week treatment.Any comments welcome.
Avatar f tn So far Provigil has mostly been beneficial for me . . . it usually gives me the energy and focus I need to get some things (but not all) done. But yesterday and today I just can't seem to focus on anything. It is SO frustrating . . . I think I have the energy to do things . . . but I don't know where to start . . . or I begin something only to be sidetracked to another.
968560 tn?1307451498 I checked with the provigil,my insurance wont cover it and even that they have a generic available for provigil (modafil) the price for the generic without insurance is $167 a month 200mg a day.My hepa said all stimulants have the potential for abuse Didrex is a class III schedule and is less addictive than the addrerall or the ritilan(which he cant write for anyway. Didrex was approved by the FDA in 1960 as a Central Nerve stimulant. The normal dosage is 2-50mg tabs daily and costs $22.
918275 tn?1254068752 Provigil is used sometimes if a person is sedated from medication but that's just if a person sleeps late into the day. This is more of concern. Abilify is usually activating not sedating although it can be sedating. Before my current recovery I was on practically every known antipsychotic and although there were ones that made me sleep late into the day I never slept for a whole day, let alone 4 or 5 days. I would strongly suggest seeing a neurologist and getting a sleep test done.
Avatar m tn I started by calling the pharmaceutical company to inquire about assistance, but they have canceled their Provigil assistance program and also told me that depression is one of the few illnesses for which they do not provide assistance anyway. I then looked into other assistance programs, but they require enrollees to be without insurance, and giving up my health insurance is just not practical.
572735 tn?1217201019 anything else i can take for my fatigue other than provigil? it gave me migraines! HELP ME!!!!!!!!!I'm tired of Being tired! And sick of being Sick!!!!
Avatar n tn although they have tested a new drug for cocaine addiction, it has not been approved by the fda yet. i used for coke for 5 years very heavily and went c/t as the physical w/d's from coke are so minimul, but it is the mental part that is devastaing. have you tried n/a meetings, counselling. quitting this drug is a devil to quit and as of now, there is now pill that will help as i know of.
Avatar f tn I tried Provigil last summer with high hopes, after wrangling my insurer over it--it's expensive. Alas, it didn't do diddley for me. Maybe Ampyra will help me. I'm exhausted all the time.
Avatar m tn Any info? I do take provigil in the mornings for this.

1394098 tn?1385960134 So now my Dr is thinking of prescribing Provigil. Has anyone tried this drug. If so does it work well for fatigue. I read that it helps with focus but I haven't read anything about it helping with tiredness.
5509293 tn?1428531475 I have been taking nuvigil 250mg every morning since 2009. Now 2015 my insurance will not pay. My dr has send everything insurance ask for. So my dr put me on Modofinil 200mg 2 every morning I'm paying 299.99 for 30 pills because my insurance is saying its for people with sleep disorders or shift workers.
