Avatar f tn do all of these crappy (literally) side effects EVER fade??? ive only been on the combined treatment for a month now....it just seems to b getting worse...the vomitting, crapping, fatigue, body aches, head aches, raw throat and mouth....i just hate to ask my docs for all kinds of meds....just wondering if it gets better closer to the one year marker????
1831920 tn?1320857757 I am on several meds for my bipolar and depression. One of my major side effects was sleeping most of the day away, which I could not shake for the pastt 2 years. My doctor put me on Provigil about a year or two ago, but I rarely would take it because it made me very hyper and nervous. Now I started taking it regularly (only 1/2 of my 100 mg tablet per day) and am very awake and extremely talkative.
934553 tn?1275274379 Huh? She doesn't know that copaxone doesn't have depression as a side effect? That's one of the reasons I chose that for my DMD. And the provigil and neurontin may make you feel better in some ways but they are not recommended to treat depression. Provigil will help with energy and stamina. Neurontin handles neuropathic pain. Of course having no energy and having pain can make us depressed, but I have to question her overall logic.
Avatar n tn has anyone ever used provigil or knows someone that has? any noticable side effects? and cautions you would give? i just want to make ure kristen gets whatever she needs to make the disease managable...let me know. thank you.
Avatar n tn Have you talked to the doctor who prescribed the provigil and nuvigil to see what their opinion is? Did they ever try decreasing your dose to see if you'd have less side effects but still benefit from the medicine? There are a number of other medications that can be taken to promote wakefulness.
Avatar f tn However, because it was the only thing that worked for me after trying other options, I determined that the side effects were worth it. After a long hiatus, I recently tried Provigil again. While it worked better than the others, the results were unpredictable at best. So, when Nuvigil hit the market, I asked my doctor for a script, and he provided me with some samples. I have been taking the medication now for two months and have been thrilled with the results.
Avatar m tn I am just finishing week 12 of tx. Hopefully I will get good news from my PCR test this week. For the first 11 weeks of the tx, I had a very tough time. Barely had the energy to make it out of bed most days, and was extremely foggy all the time. It was very difficult to be able to concentrate on my work or do anything requiring the use of my brain. I was seriously thinking about stopping the tx because of this even though I know the consequences. My Dr. recently prescribed Provigil for me.
Avatar n tn My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days. About 10 days after he refills the prescription he starts sleeping, all day and night, almost constantly, until the refill date and then this pattern starts all over.
Avatar n tn Im wondering since wellbutrin has a triple filtration (through the liver) process has anyone experienced side effects or damaging effects in regards to their liver? Is this a "safe" choice for someone with Hep c? I get pretty down and have extremely low energy and looking for help. Any suggestions?
619930 tn?1260374254 You are in a trial correct? Somewhere around week 40 now? Does your trial not permit rescue drugs like Procrit? I know different trials have different guidelines. Hgb is low and if Procrit is not permitted why hasn't your doctor reduced your Riba? At this point a reduction in riba will not be as critical if it were to occur early on in treatment. I have two unopened boxes of Provigil sitting on my dresser since Oct 08. After reading possible side effects I opted not to take it.
Avatar n tn Hi, hyperkinesias and agitation are associated with provigil but incidence is around 1% only. Dechallenge or removal of drug followed by normal behavior is the only way to find out relation between drug and symptom. For information visit http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/modafinil_ad.
398059 tn?1447945633 I'm sure you had lots to talk about.... I think that the only drawback Quix has mentioned is the desire to become Superwoman, and doing too much, because she feels the pseudo-energy. Then she crashes, because she's done too much. But she has learned over time to overcome this. I don't remember any untoward side effects from the Provigil. I don't ever recall feeling "high" or anything. It wasn't like caffeine, either.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar f tn How do I suggest to my PCP that I would like Provigil or Adderall for my EXTREME fatigue, to the poing of falling asleep while driving, without seeming to be drug seeking.? I have got to have something, I drive for a living! I am so afraid of having a wreck, but I can't tell my job I have this problem. I have to have this job for the insurance, since if I went on disability I couldn't get medicare for 2 years, and how do you pay for insurance on the pittance you get for disability?
1511858 tn?1290477459 Anyways question is has anybody ever taken provigil before, there seems to be alot of side effects, but as long as it will help with my tireness I will be happy.
797195 tn?1240579823 I've been on both Provigil and Nuvigil. There is NO comparison. Nuvigil is hands down MUCH more effective to me than Provigil. Provigil always gave me a "rush" upper feeling. It felt like I was a little high. Provigil, on the other hand, is a slow and gradual release. I take it in the morning, and within an hour or so, I notice I can just concentrate better and am less tired. Its very gradual and lasts a lot longer than Provigil.
432312 tn?1265644974 I was DX with MS in late 2003. I had lost the ability to walk and my sight in my left eye by the time MS was even considered. My DR wanted me to go on an ABC drug and Avonex was the only once a week drug so that's what I chose. (very scared of needles) It is a inter muscular shot lots of site injection pain, lumps, bruising and next day flu like symptoms. After a year I had another exasubation that landed me in the hospital.
Avatar f tn However it has similar dopaminergic, seritonergic and noradrenergic properties adderall and Ritalin but it also has been shown to work on neurotransmitters called orexins and histamines (anti-histamines like Benadryl make you tired, while Provigil stimulates histamines that promote wakefulness). These are the likely reasons provigil has less side effects than adderal or Ritalin in general.
Avatar m tn These are typical side effects froom withdrawls of that type of medication (amphetamine, methylphetamine) or stimulants. If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated.
1142551 tn?1264736930 Provigil is more expensive and I actually had more side effects with Provigil. Nuvigil is the 2nd generation of Provigil and the manufacturer has lowered the price to get everyone "switched" before the patent on Provigil expires in 2011. For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning. And since Provigil is "going away" it is tough to even get samples.
Avatar f tn Today I took Provigil for the third time, and it's the third time in a week I've needed it. I'm scared to take it daily because of the severe side effects some people have had, but it's a wonderful drug and I'm curious about what it's doing and how it works in MSers. For me it's all about the "Winco Effect" -- the grocery store that always reduces me to a yawning zombie within 15 minutes (since October 08).
Avatar f tn I am currently taking the following for FMS: Celexa (depression), Ultram (pain) Vicodin (bad pain), Lunesta (to stay asleep), and now Provigil (to stay awake in the day). I have say, these all are helping, but maybe about 50%. The pain never goes away, only flucuates to bad or worse. The Lunesta is great. I tried Ambien & Sonata, but couldn't handle the side effects. Lunesta keeps me asleep but doesn't make me feel hung-over in the morning.
