Went to hospital a month ago for bleeding ulcers of the esophagus, and was given bags full of Protonix, IV for a week. Was sent home taking 40mg 2 X a day. Had microalbumin well over 400 when I had labs done for checkup. So Dr. ordered a kidney ultrasound and a nodule was found in my right kidney. I've seen several law suits about Protonix causing kidney failure!
m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this.. So I decided to stop taking the Protonix...the last time i took it was thursday and i still feel like im in hell.... You would think I am detoxing from some other hard core drug and I havent taken anything else.. I am still so naseous, gagging, stomach pains, heart palps..and I am def not pregnant or anything like that so I cant find any other cause for all of this..
Is there anything i can do to get this medicine out of my system.
She was prescribed 40mg of Protonix once a day. She has been taking this medication for one week, and has been experiencing dizziness and nausea. She weighs about 120 lbs. I looked online, and it appears that these are side effects that some patients experience. My question is: would Nexium pose the same problems for her?
I started taking Protonix daily and watched what I ate. I have a lot of bloating and gas and a little bit of pain. My symptoms are not too severe all the time but I start to panic when I get in a quiet environment like a classroom or a work meeting. I get really worried about having an episode. Unfortunately, the panicking makes me have an episode of bloating, gas, and pain. I don't mind the pain but the bloating and gas episodes are not allowing me to do day to day tasks.
I have a stomach ulcer that will not heal no matter what medicine I'm given. It's been about a year. I was given a blood test and biopsy during endoscopy for h.pylori and both were negative. I read that there is a possibility of false negative test results if the person has been taking acid blocking medications.
Heartburn, throat feels like its on fire, chest pain, acid taste, indigestion, burping, acid coming up every time I burp. Finally got in to the gastro dr. He put me on protonix, and scheduled me for an EGD and Gastric Emptying Test. Both came back fine, but still feel horrible. Went back to the gastro today to follow up. He changed my dose of protonix, and said to see how that worked.
Long story short, I had my gallbladder out 11/14/08 and I had an endoscopy just prior to that which revealed I have three stomach ulcers which are healing. Prior to the endoscopy my doctor had put me on Protonix initially, didn't help. My stool turned black, got back in and we then tried Nexium and was sent for the scope, already mentioned. They did a biopsy of the ulcers which came back negative for h. pylori.
I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
He has had an EGD and a colonoscopy in which the drs found ulcers and a diseased gall bladder (which has been taken out), but they have never checked for any motility issues. We live in a small town, but I am insisting that we go to a big city where there are better and more experienced physicians who specialize in this type of thing. He is not really doing great with the low fat diet. However, the pain, vomitting, etc.
This showed that in less then 6 months I now have 6 large ulcers, but none in the duodenum. Biopsies were negative once again for H. pylori and celiac disease. Doctor has me do a fasting gastrin test. It came back elevated at 1045. My doctor then told me about ZES. They want me to re-do the gastrin test after being off of nexium because I had started taking it 5 days before my test. My question is can taking nexium for 5 days elevate your gastrin levels that much that fast?
I wish it was that easy for me. I have been on alot of ppi's Prilosec, Acifex,nexuim,protonix,zegerids,reglan and some other med. that hasn't been fda approved. Nothing takes it away Thats one of the reasons I had nissen surgery. I was just hoping to find someone with information about a nissen being retightened.
Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds......
so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid.

s Esophagus, Hiatal Hernia, and ulcers in both my esophagus and duodenum. I was just diagnosed last Monday via an endoscopy after 2 months of having cardiac related symptoms with no known cardiac origin. I had numerous EKG's, echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram and a CT scan of my chest along with numerous bloodwork.
I recently had a colonoscopy and the camera down my throat tests done (I'm sorry I can't remember the name of that test) It came back that the esophogus was burned and so is the stomach lining. No ulcers and no cancer. I wasn't given a diagnosis so I don't know what I have other than that. I was put on protonix and had severe side effects from it including loosing 20 lbs in 3 weeks from the vomiting caused by the medication. My Dr. took me off of it and put me on zantac.
He just had a scope procedure done and they found 5 or 6 red, raw areas of his stomach. No ulcers though. They are giving him protonix, omeprazole, carafat, and phenegran. For some reason they seem to think its h-pylori even though the tests were negative. They are sure its a bacterial infection..but can't seem to get the vomiting under control..oh they are giving morphine for pain.
Does anyone have any suggestions or similar symptoms...
I have been to the hospital twice with two ekgs done normal and a lot of blood work normal I have bad shoulder pains leg pains arms ache and neck hurts when I drink or eat anything my chest hurts and my back hurts can stress and gets cause this I get headaches daily and the pain in shoulders and arms daily

I thank God that I had an abdominal ulrasound and cat scan with and without IV contrast and all was clear. I was so afraid that I had pancreatic cancer. My Dr told me that the CT scan was the best test for the pancreas. I just get nervous because I still get a discomfort way up high under my breastboneand occasionaly in my back but my Dr said this could be acid reflux. My endescopy also showed that I have gastritis which I know is painful as well.
Thank u so much Sorry I didn't see your post until med help prompted me to look again My ulcer hasn't healed turns out I was taking the medication with food on my stomachwhen my stomach was supposed to be empty.
I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
