protonix and liver problems

My problem was chest pain. And when tests revealed no heart problems, they assumed reflux. The protonix helped the chest pain, so I assumed they were right and was grateful for the relief. But now I have questions. I'm also a few months off of pain meds so it's possible that the side effects were there all along and being masked by the pain meds. Look, I know doctors have their pat answers, but in my 54 years of experience, anything is possible.

I Goggled Protonix, Liver and there were multiple articles that warned of a Liver Side Effect. Most just said to be careful of the dosage.......................of course, everything has that!

A little over a year ago I started having some stomach/colon problems. I had tons of gurgling in my stomach and colon area and a general feeling of having trapped gas/air/bloating all over. My bowel movements started changing. One day they would be shaped fine, the next day they would be kind of skinny, then one day they would be weird puzzle shapes and kind of like diarrhea, then the next day diarrhea, then back to normal. No particular order. This went on for two months. I saw my doctor.

I would ask for all the Hepatitis tests first and then maybe a liver panel so they have a marker to reference in the future. Morecambe is right, also. You should really see someone ASAP if there's black tarry or coffee ground like stools as it could mean internal bleeding which is yet another indication of liver disease. Your liver function is definitely being comprimised, so you need to find out why. Good luck!

Well, I visited my gastro/hepatologist for a issue with high liver enzymes. He asked why I was taking protonix. Therefore, I explained how a ENT diagnosed me with a hiatal hernia when in fact my symptoms at the time were actually caused from a allergic reaction to allergy drops he provided to me. Well, needless to say once I told the Gastro. the procedure he did when he made that diagnosis, my gastro.

The doctor said it was stress and prescribed Protonix . Protonix is for acid reflux- I have never had heartburn or acid reflux. The pain subsided (I believe due to the Tylonel 3 which has codeine in it). I ate some chicken broth and crackers, took the Protonix and here a few hours later, I am feeling the pain coming back. I do not have any stress in my life at the moment, so I just don't think this is due to an acidic stomach from stress.

I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Hi, I have some reflux problems and swallowing /throat problems that my doctor said could be from long term untreated reflux. Could this make it difficult to sing, ie, making my throat feel irritated while singing? This is a problem because I am a musician and am expected to sing sometimes.

keel over type upset upper stomach, sternum and when it gets so painful,lazy intestines, etc you try to breath through the spasming pain and I get hot and feverish and then finally I vomit and all of a sudden I can breath, the spasming goes down, and fine afterwards. I had my gallbladder taken out thinking it was that ( it was in rough shape they said) and for a year I had nothing happen, then a year later I got another spout, so I was upset thinking OK gallbaldder never fixed this??

I had some blood testing about two weeks ago showing high WBC and low RBC along with two elvated liver enzymes AST and ALT. Never had that problem before. My question is what do those elevated ezymes mean? Why isnt the acid reducers working? What are the possible causes of my gastrtis?

ve seen a doctor, and they have ran ekg test, and holter, egd to confirm not much going on in my digestive area besides noticeable healing spots from gerd. Blood tests are fine besides total cholesterol, ldl and liver enzymes are up a bit. This pain has made my thinking and vision cloudy I guess and I seem to be sensitive to a lot of parts in my body. I also feel more sensitive to cold. I can hardly do anything throughout the day. I don't know whats going on.

Make sure you have your doctor check your magnesium levels while taking these drugs long term, as they have been associated with sometimes severe hypomagnesemia, which could cause PVCs and other heart rhythm problems.

Hi all, I'm a 26 year old man diagnosed with GERD. This all started a 3 years ago. I was sick: nauseous, vomiting, yellow urine and jaundice. My doctor ran a panel on me, I had elevated levels bilurubin. In a few weeks I recovered, and my doctor ran the panel again. Again I had no signs of Hepatitis or anything like that. He told me thought I might have a rogue mono virus. Whenever you run my blood today, the bilurubin levels are still extremely high.

He was up again all last night (me, too) with the pain, diarrhea, and foul acidic burping. He is religiously taking his Protonix and Donnatal, he also uses Mylanta Extra Strength and OTC Prilosec when he gets these attacks. I told him to get the Quack's home phone number so he call him at 3:30 AM when it is "all in his head":) BTW - has been a good boy with food, only bland carbs and chicken. Will let you guys know what is found.

Ultrasound showed no issue with gallbladder, kidneys, appendix or liver. Liver only shows a hemangioma that has not gotten bigger since 2019. My pancreas was obscured. I also had normal blood work except for calcium which was 10.3 but my doctor wasn’t concerned. After no changes after 8 weeks of omeprazole, I was changed to protonix 2x daily. No changes after a few weeks, I went back to the dr because I started to feel right side back pain. He referred me to a GI which is in two weeks.

I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..

t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.

Hi! I have some problems and anyone who has had similar situation and found results please help me. Symptoms are nausea, bloating, indigestion, mainly after eating. So for 3 years now I have been diagnosed with acid reflux. Been on basicaly every med on the market and recently I am on 2x daily protonix which has completley gotten rid of the nausea. My bloating (indigestion?) and belching throughout the day has gotten worse.

He ordered an ultrasound which was negative but showed possible liver abnormality. Her bloodwork showed normal pancreatic and liver enzymes. On Friday, she had a CT of the abdomen which revealed excessive abdominal fluid(i am guessing ascites)- her liver was fine. Her pcp wants her back Monday for bloodwork to rule out ovarian cancer (i guess CA125). Over this past week, she has become very tired and her stomach is distended. In August, she saw her GYN for her yearly exam.

Ok, I have lots of questions but I will try to morrow it down. I started looking at questions about PPIs and weight gain and found other things that concerned me. My VA Dr is shall we say less than desirable. Here are my issues. I have been taking protonix for many years. I took another type before it but VA decided it was too expensive and quit providing it.
