Protonix for ulcers

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix for ulcers

protonix

Avatar f tn I've been on insulin for years. Went to hospital a month ago for bleeding ulcers of the esophagus, and was given bags full of Protonix, IV for a week. Was sent home taking 40mg 2 X a day. Had microalbumin well over 400 when I had labs done for checkup. So Dr. ordered a kidney ultrasound and a nodule was found in my right kidney. I've seen several law suits about Protonix causing kidney failure!
Avatar f tn You do not have bacterium nor take nsaids which are two common causes of peptic ulcers. Those are common causes of peptic ulcers. Here is an article that discusses the conditions https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/peptic-ulcer/symptoms-causes/syc-20354223 Are you still on Plavix? That is a blood thinner and would create further problems. Absolutely speak to your doctor about this.
Avatar m tn gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for MRSA for a week and then spent another month receiving vancomycin via central line. During my care, they gave me clindamycin and reframpin, both of which caused severe reactions: jaundice, severe upper right quadrant pain, bleeding ulcers, exacerbated asthma, severe weakness, febrile seizures, N/V, and skin reactions. Now my ALT levels are > 90.
Avatar n tn She was prescribed 40mg of Protonix once a day. She has been taking this medication for one week, and has been experiencing dizziness and nausea. She weighs about 120 lbs. I looked online, and it appears that these are side effects that some patients experience. My question is: would Nexium pose the same problems for her?
Avatar n tn I had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with ulcers in February 2013 by a Gastroenterologist. My Gastroenterologist said I have multiple ulcers along my stomach lining and a lot of inflammation. I started taking Protonix daily and watched what I ate. I have a lot of bloating and gas and a little bit of pain. My symptoms are not too severe all the time but I start to panic when I get in a quiet environment like a classroom or a work meeting. I get really worried about having an episode.
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and my biopsy came out negative, my MD had me stay off the Prilosec for two weeks, later they did a blood test for the Hpylori bacteria and it showed positive.
Avatar m tn Hey I just wanted to say that I've been in a similar hell for the last 2 years and from all the research i've done I gotta say that I have a very strong impression that there are many people out there who test negative for h pylori that are still positive. Have you ever had any ulcers? You're symptoms sound like h pylori or possibly some sort of parasite infection of the intestines.
Avatar m tn m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
Avatar f tn My stool turned black, got back in and we then tried Nexium and was sent for the scope, already mentioned. They did a biopsy of the ulcers which came back negative for h. pylori. I have a very stressful job and used to eat ibuprofen like candy and now, I no longer take any aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. My ulcers seem to be under control because I have changed my diet. No more coffee, very limited alcohol, no spicy foods, no citrus, nothing that will produce acid.
Avatar m tn Since July of 2009, my husband has been having horrible pain under his left ribcage accompanied with constipation, vomitting (the vomit is bright yellow), and severe nausea. In August of 2009, he was told by a gastro doctor that his gall bladder was diseased and so he had it removed. Soon after the gall bladder removal, the symptoms returned. I have been reading posts and researching about this Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction....
Avatar f tn This showed that in less then 6 months I now have 6 large ulcers, but none in the duodenum. Biopsies were negative once again for H. pylori and celiac disease. Doctor has me do a fasting gastrin test. It came back elevated at 1045. My doctor then told me about ZES. They want me to re-do the gastrin test after being off of nexium because I had started taking it 5 days before my test. My question is can taking nexium for 5 days elevate your gastrin levels that much that fast?
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for blepheritis. I am now finding that I am very nauseous and sometimes feel like I may throw up after taking this drug. Does anyone know if this is dangerous for anyone with my issues to take this medication? I am on Carafate 2 x daily, Protonix 2x daily, and a Zantac 1 at bedtime, from my gastroenterologist. I welcome any help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn So my doctor suggested a upper gi a scope put done to see if I have lesions or anything. He said it was still intact no ulcers or hpylori infection. So how does this happen that I have reflux again. I am confused and none of the medications make it completey go away. I was wandering if anyone had to have it retightened for a case like this.
114870 tn?1210298346 you're welcome :) wow yeah h. ploryi is a virus that causes the majority of ulcers and usually requires a triple antibiotic theapy to fix it. I'm suprised you were never tested for it, that's a cheaper test... It's a simple blood test. If positive that would save $$ on not doing an endoscope. Without the antibiotics I don't think acid blockers would do anything for it so maybe that's why your meds have failed. BUUuuuut what do I know.. follow your doctors advice.
Avatar f tn Yes biopsies were done. They came back negative for ulcers and cancer. I didn't get a mention of what it is. I guess I better go back and see if there is a name for this. I go through the VA so we get what we get. Most of the time the care is good though. I'm 47 years old and I hate this pain.
Avatar m tn They are giving him protonix, omeprazole, carafat, and phenegran. For some reason they seem to think its h-pylori even though the tests were negative. They are sure its a bacterial infection..but can't seem to get the vomiting under control..oh they are giving morphine for pain. Does anyone have any suggestions or similar symptoms...he has been hospitalized at Rady's Childrens Hosp. since Friday, almost a week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Avatar f tn I had one small ulcer and I continued to loose weight and vomit a lot. I got scoped again and in uder a year I had 6 larger ulcers. I had a gastrin level done and it came back a little higher then 1000 so thats what diagnosed me.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar m tn Thank u so much Sorry I didn't see your post until med help prompted me to look again My ulcer hasn't healed turns out I was taking the medication with food on my stomachwhen my stomach was supposed to be empty.
Avatar f tn Ok so I had a upper Gi test done tuesday and they found I had little gastritis of the stomach and esophagitis and that my stomach was making to much acid. I been on protonix for 2 weeks now and after every meal and bedtime I take mylanta. I still feel sick all the time. Also i have very smelly green poop??????? How long can this take sometimes. what else can i rule out? Why could I be making to much stomach acid???? Please help its been three weeks a 2 days.
Avatar n tn I am 33 now...I was told when i was 21 that the reason i had a spontaneous pneumothorax was because of my 3 month of dry coughing which started because i had this thing called GERD....Wow....Then the doctors put me on Prilosec for my GERD....I've been on that pill since i was 21....i have to take it everyday and even if i miss one pill,i am really sick the next day....well now i;m 33 and am having more frequent palpitation...worse after eating and at night....
Avatar f tn H.pylori is one of the main causes of peptic ulcers and acid reflux. It's the bacteria you get in your stomach when you have too little acid. It's easily fixed and you can go on antibiotics to get rid of it. I think takes around 2 weeks but don't quote me on that. If you leave it unchecked you can possibly get an ulcer from it. Also taking acid blockers like prevacid and protonix would only make it worse if you don't take the antibiotics as well.
