I only started taking protinix 8 days ago and have had horrible stomach pain. Back in October my Gastro doc did an endoscopy and results were esophagitis; basically inflammation and several small ulcers. He described aciphex. My insurance initially said they didn't cover it, but the dr sent over an authorization & I was told it was good for one year. First two months my copay was $75 but in January when I went to p/u @ pharmacy I was told it was $480.
The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.

About 2 month ago, I started having bad stomach pain, with pins anf needles sensation, and pain radiating through back. I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill.
I have been to the hospital twice with two ekgs done normal and a lot of blood work normal I have bad shoulder pains leg pains arms ache and neck hurts when I drink or eat anything my chest hurts and my back hurts can stress and gets cause this I get headaches daily and the pain in shoulders and arms daily
I have been on the generic for Protonix for about 2 weeks. Decided to go off! I have severe back pain, in the middle and my ribs hurt so bad it feels like I have been beat up!!! Did not know about this side effect! Of course, the doctors do not tell you anything about the side effects! They just want you to take it. I hope that these pains go away soon! I took the last pill on Saturday and I will go back to Zantac 150 if need be! I am through with medication!!!
I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
30 am today i woke up to a pain in my esophagus and i got very scared , it lasted about a second but i am now very depressed thinking gastric flow may have irritated my throat.
even though i ate dinner (very light one) at 7.30 and went to bed at 11.00 .
also in the mornings when i wake up i spit up (not coughing it up) it's just there in my mouth yellowish thick sometimes spit.

I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
My primary care doctor first thought it was a pleural bleb, but after a few months of it getting worse, I went to see him again. The pain had started moving to the same location on the left sternal border and sometimes substernally. He now suspected GERD. He started me on 80mg of Protonix for 2 weeks, and then a follow up. On the follow up my chest pains had reduced dramatically in both duration and severity, but they were still present.
In the past 3 months the voice horseness has gotten worse coming more often and lasting longer and I am having chest/back pain it hurts in my chest and back all day and night and when i take a deep breath i get sharp pains. I went to my doctor they did blood work and found i am diabetic. they also found i have a underactive thyroid. they did a chest xray it was negative and they did a ct scan it showed swollen lynph nodes in my lungs.
s not only uncomfortable but embarrassing to be bloated and gassy almost every day. How long should I be on the Protonix, and should I be taking anything else to help ease the constipation? Before starting the Protonix I was fairly regular and my diet hasn't changed much, if at all, so I can't imagine any other reason for this. My doctor never indicated a length of time for taking it, he only listed refills on the bottle.
to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath with a mouthful of acid. I was on Aciphex first, then Protonix and now Nexium.
My problem is that the back of my tongue is all white and bumpy (looks a bit like thrush). I was told that this is from the acid that has come up over the years. Is that likely? If so, is there anything I can do to remove it (treatment, over-the-counter remedy, medication, etc.)?

Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds......
so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid.

I recently was changed from prilisec to protonix which greatly relieved the laryngeal irritation from silent gerd. Two nights past week have awakened with severe nerve pain entire left thorax (front & back between shoulder blades) and left arm/hand. Ironically no substernal chest pain. Echo and persantine tests normal 3 months ago (done to evaluate for PH/copd) It was 9/10 and 10/10 severity nerve pain, not muscle, no brash, no acid in throat, etc. It lasted less than 10 minutes.
I have been having trouble with constipation and gas. As well as pain in my ribs and back that feels as it is caused by gas. I also have this problem of food regurgitating up to an hour or two post meal. Just got diagnosed from the mayo clinic with rumination syndrome which is related to the gas trapped in my stomach that causes pain and then to burp more then normal when it finally releases.
About 2 weeks ago I started feeling unwell. Pain in my stomach, pain in my back. I currently take protonix for gastritis that was diagnosed a couple of years ago. It got to the point where the dr. put me in the hospital for pain control. I saw the surgeon and he stated that I have a hernia and also have the gastritis. They changed my medications around to protonix, questren, and carafate. I was released from the hospital on Friday.
I have gone on diets and lost weight but usually quickly gain it and more back ever time. Plus my GERD is now not under control. Can the protonix truly be blamed for some weight gain that won't go away?
I also have other things going on that might be attributed to the protonix which I have given different meds to combat. I think I need a reset.
I have had numerous knee replacements all of which began from my bone fracturing under the prosthetic.
My Internal Medicine doctor advised the ulcer is being aggravated by the acid which is causing nausea and pain, the Zantac was not strong enough. She prescribed Protonix 40mg twice a day, I have been on that and feel great; no fatigue, no nausea, no pain! Will be on this regimen for 30 days and then slowly cut back dosage to maintenance level of 40mg once a day every other day.
At first, it would go away for awhile and then come back, but now it is basically constant. Burning pain in a distinct spot. I also have sporadic burning pain under my left breast area. Sometimes my back hurts along the same line as my front rib pain. I also have the same burning pain right above my navel. I thought it might be an ulcer, but when I started having pain in more than one area, I'm not so sure. My doctor gave me Protonix but it doesn't seem to work.
Hi, Thanks for the feed back. I am taking medication from my family doctor for the past 10 days and almost get cured.
After I analysed, I have found that the following may be the cause or increase the injury to the worst.
- Playing games like badminton suddenly without any proper excercise.
- Using the computer monitor screen at wrong position
- Sleeping in wrong position.
I am wondering if long term protonix use has been linked to joint and muscle pain as well as hearing loss. I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years.
ikeep having these sharp pains right around the lower part and upper part of my belly button also on my left side i was tested positive for stool in my blood still seeing dark spots in my stool nausea still there taking zofran for nausea and protonix for the abdominal discomfort doesnt seem to help a whole lot had a ct scan and everything came back normal im going to a specialist for a upper and lower endoscopy any advise whats bothering me
I have muscle spazms along with the in my arms and legs. Chest pain occasionally. Ive had acid reflux and IBS since i was 16. Taking nexium, and whatever else they can prescribe to help, but mine is cronic so theres not much they can do. I have only had one seizure so far.. But im wondering what i can tell myself with all these symtoms im having. Iv heard people talk about Raynauds syndrom? But i dont seam to have cold feet or hands alot of the time, occasionally. And no discoloration.
