Protonix for chest pain

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix for chest pain

protonix

Avatar f tn The ultrasound came back normal and my upper endescopy showed Grade A Reflux and Gastritis. The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar m tn My problem was chest pain. And when tests revealed no heart problems, they assumed reflux. The protonix helped the chest pain, so I assumed they were right and was grateful for the relief. But now I have questions. I'm also a few months off of pain meds so it's possible that the side effects were there all along and being masked by the pain meds. Look, I know doctors have their pat answers, but in my 54 years of experience, anything is possible.
Avatar m tn Male, 23 years old. No history of digestion problems. Recently I have had extremely large bouts of anxiety and acid reflux was assumed to be from that by the PCP. Current medications: atenolol, buspirone, protonix For the past month, I have been dealing with all sorts of pains involving my GI tract. My PCP assumed it was gastritis and put me on nexium (and later switched to protonix by an ER doctor) to handle the pain.
Avatar n tn I am a 24 y/o male who began having chest pain about a year ago. The pain was sharp in nature and was located on my right sternal border around my 3rd and 4th ribs. My primary care doctor first thought it was a pleural bleb, but after a few months of it getting worse, I went to see him again. The pain had started moving to the same location on the left sternal border and sometimes substernally. He now suspected GERD. He started me on 80mg of Protonix for 2 weeks, and then a follow up.
Avatar m tn I am an 18 year old male and I have dyspepsia (uncomfortable movements in the stomach) and I take 40 mg Protonix a day for the stomach. Lately I have been having small chest pains that come and go for a most 2 minutes. Yesterday I started having theses weird floating (not quite fluttering) sensations in my throat and chest. At the same time my vision goes dim and I feel lightheaded like I am about to faint. The lightheadedness only lasts for 2 seconds. It is very worrying.
Avatar m tn for the past 4 months ive had chest pain. it started in june with sudden on set of pvcs. so i decided to go cardiac route first. i had all the blood work and a stress test with ultrasound as well as halter monitor. all normal. so i am now on digestive route having barium swallow and hida scan both negative. so now i have a esophageal ph and monometry study scheduled for nov 1. i get chest pain all the time some days better than others on 40mg of protonix 2x a day.
Avatar f tn hello, i am 34fem i have been on protonix f1 per day or mild esophagits/erosive gastritis for the last 2 months. i was supposed to take 1 every other day soon to stop i guess. was doing fairly well, watching my diet and everything/wedge pillow etc... anyhow after an episode where i had water late at night and since then i have on and off burning symptoms called my gi he said it's not due to reflux should go to and ear/nose/throat specialist. did so.
Avatar f tn In fact, when I feel the chest pain it occurs all day long. When I take the Zantac I would say my chest symptoms are 90% better, but the Protonix is best for me. With that said, my doctor said if I can manage on the Zantac either once or twice a day to do that, since Zantac has less side effects. Chewing gum during the day helps me a lot too. No stress, but a year ago when this started my whole family did get a cold, and this is when I thought it was asthma, but it wasn't.
Avatar f tn Chest pain, fatigue and low grade fever do not suggest asthma as the primary problem at this time. And, these 3 do not suggest cardiac disease and that is in keeping with the normal chest x-ray, stress test and ECHO. What is suggested is lung disease, such as bronchiolitis, despite the normal chest x-rays or the acute onset. Other diagnoses to be considered might include infection with an uncommon organism, recurrent pulmonary emboli or the acute onset of an auto-immune disease.
Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed with GERD, i was having chest pain for a few weeks, today I had an onset of burning pain, i feel a constant burning pain through my rib line and across my chest and it even stretches to my back.It doesnt feel anything like the pains i have had with GERD. Is this a sign of an ulcer of pancreatic problems?
Avatar m tn Im looking for answers. For 2 years I had continuous stomach pain, heartburn and chest pains. I was seen numerous times in the ER when the pain got to bad. Everytime I was told there was nothing wrong. Finally one doctor decided to do a hida scan and found I had a low function gallbladder. it was only 17%. In November I had my gallbladder removed. I had a lot of pain and the heartburn instantly returned.. and I would get nauseas with one bite of food.
Avatar f tn ve been horribly sick the past week since I drank a tall glass of lemonade, with horrible chest pain and stomach ache that left me unable to walk or sometimes even move at all, for seven days now. I tried every antacid under the sun but nothing was helping.
Avatar m tn Was diagnosed with delayed gastric emptying and given Protonix. I have had 2 pyloric dilatations but I still have pain in the upper abdominal and chest areas behind the sternum. The regurgitation is better. GI and cardiology cleared me for any overt issues, but I'm having abdominal and chest pain, nausea and vertigo that starts with a strange wave or flushing in my belly and travels upward. It gets really nauseous and I can hear my heart pulsating in my ears. The vertigo is the worst.
Avatar f tn I have been on 4 rounds of different antobiotics, nasal sprays, mucinex dm, xyzal, delsem, robitussin, prednezone and I also take protonix for gerd. Nothing seems to work I am 37 years old and for the most part have been healthy. I had a chest X-ray last May 07. showed nothing then. Should I be worried.
Avatar n tn I recently was changed from prilisec to protonix which greatly relieved the laryngeal irritation from silent gerd. Two nights past week have awakened with severe nerve pain entire left thorax (front & back between shoulder blades) and left arm/hand. Ironically no substernal chest pain. Echo and persantine tests normal 3 months ago (done to evaluate for PH/copd) It was 9/10 and 10/10 severity nerve pain, not muscle, no brash, no acid in throat, etc. It lasted less than 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn eventually, I got better and gained the weight back but every few months I get a flare up where I get pain under left shoulder and left front abdomen, chest pain and some burning...I just had a stress test, a nuclear stress test, an echo and blood work....the cardiologist says everything looked great--perfect stress tests and excellent blood work so he says go back to gastro doctor which I did..I am on Protonix and Zantac again but feel even worse...not sure where to turn...
Avatar n tn There were signs of reflux, and I was put on Protonix. I continue to have shortness of breath, and tightness in my chest and right below my rib cage where my stomach is. I have been concerned about a Hiatal Hernia, because i get extreme belcing, reflux, and somtimes pain there. Could this still be a possibility even though they havent seen it yet?
Avatar f tn it is best to see a GI Dr for testing as it is possible to have similar symptoms for too little acid as well as too much, so meds for too much can make you feel worse....and there are other medical issues that could cause similar symptoms. Go for testing and let us know what you find out. Also look to your families medical history.
Avatar n tn old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
Avatar f tn I get burning in my throat and chest, reflux, nausea, sternum pain, feeling like there is something in my throat, and even back pain when it gets bad. Do those of you who have these issues also get chest tightness and the feeling of something sitting on your upper chest?I'd say it's right at the top of my chest and sometimes it feels like something is either sitting there or pulling. I've heard that these can be gastro symptoms, but I wanted to see if anyone here experienced it?
Avatar f tn they sent me to a lung specalist who basically said it was nothing so i went back to my doctor he put me on meds for the diabetic and thyroid but the pain in chest/back has not stopped or the voice horseness either. Do i need a higher dosage of medicine? Or is there something else wrong? I never knew thyroid could cause chest/back pain?
270554 tn?1289511647 I been off it for 2 days but only took it for 3 will these symptoms go away soon? I also take protonix for gerd and ibs. I need some input I never felt so miserable before and I was in the hospital a lot in september. Please comment....
Avatar n tn I have been suffering with pain in my chest for 9 years. I was diagnosed with GERD/Acid Reflux and have taken Prilosec, Protonix, and Ranatidine with varying degrees of success. I was also diagnosed with esophageal spasms and have been taking Isosorbide for about 7 years. This stopped the spasms for quite awhile but for the last year or so, I have been experiencing pain every night that won't go away no matter which meds I take.
709686 tn?1277432159 maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
Avatar n tn You mention that you have a hiatel hernia and GERD and my cardiologist has told me that these two problems can lead to severe chest pain. So it is definately worth getting everything checked out including the digestive system. You mention exercise and I find that brisk walking or light jogging is the best for me. I enjoy being out and the Sussex Downs are a great place to be at this time of year.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing undiagnosed chest pain. Please know that there are no physicians on this forum. We are all chronic pain suffers. Yes your pain could be related to spinal structure issues but more importantly what are your physicians telling you? Chest pain is nothing to be ignored. I hope you have heard a thorough clinical evaluation. If not please do so. Have they considered costochondritis?
Avatar f tn Everything seemed to be okay for a while, but recently I have been having severe anxiety that has been causing chest pain. I have been to the doc and to the er for the standard test, blood work up, ekg, chest ct, and chest e-ray. The doctor says my heart is fine, but the pain is still there. About three days ago I started having the bad heartburn, I think, again and am going to be getting my peroid any day. Is it possible that the anxiety or the hormones are making my reflux worse.
