I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.

I take 1/4 tablet of metoprolol daily. Sometimes I take a full 1/2 pill. I use a pill cutter just because it is less likely to break the pill into 100 pieces :-). But my metoprolol has a big divit in the middle to make cutting it in 1/2 very easy...like perhaps a lot of people have to cut the thing. Why they don't make a smaller dosed pill is beyond me...but there you have it.

I had quite severe BHP and taking proscar and cardura. Had always difficulty urinating. I tried saw palmetto and it made me unable to urinate at all. I had to go to hospital.
I was weaned off of a much more potent beta blocker (Coreg) by cutting it in half, then again in half. I had no problem. I used a pill cutter which did a good job of splitting the drug, but the cuts weren't perfect. I think as long as you keep some of the drug in your system, you will be just fine.
5 days later he had prostrate problems and ended up leaving the hospital with a catheter. He ended up with an infection and after taking proscar and flowmax for 5 months (and using the single use catheter) he went in for an opening of the urethra. He since has had recurrent bladder infections, terrible gas and bloating. He is still on nitrofurantion (2 pills a day for 5 days) one pill a day for 30. He has no relief. He is up every night with terrible pains.

Yes, I'd continue cutting. It's tricky because they're so small, and once cut into four quarters, who knows what actual dose is in each? With T4 meds, it's not such an issue since the dose builds up in your body anyway and evens out over days or a week. But with Cytomel, you want to make sure you're not getting 25 mcg in one whack and none in the others.
Well not really - they aren't scored for breaking but a pill cutter will do it for you pretty easily. You can buy them at drugstores.
observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide.
it would be beat to taper off droping off 20mg would be like getting hit by a train you have to understand how strong this drug is it about the same as each 10mg methadone pill = 12 percs so you figure out how your going to tdo the jump I recamend a pill cutter break to break them up where not aloud to discust taper plans here on the forum but the slower the better good luck if you need help pm me....

You can get a pill cutter if it's not scored; if it is scored, break it in half, then cut it into quarters, etc. so you can taper as slowly as you want. I also wonder if, if you get a valid prescription, can you order from an internet pharmacy?
I need to crush it to take it as the pill is too large due to a lap band. I cannot take anything that has a fizz in it due to my lap band. The pharmacist said it was ok to crush it and my doctor knows that I need to do this. Is there something else out there for me to use? A liquid that doesn't fizz? Or is crushing this ok? I crush it then put it in my mouth then swish it down with water. I have not had any stomach issues.
