Proscar vs propecia for hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Proscar vs propecia for hair loss

proscar

Avatar m tn s due to using findriside for hair loss. My hair is fine but not worth it now. I only just noticed it four days ago and have immediately stoped taking the medication. Would you say I have done permanent damage or when the findristride is totaly out if my system will it all go back to normal. I have an okay sex life and I am 32.
Avatar n tn Finasteride goes by the brand name Propecia (for MPB) and Proscar (for BPH) and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness (MPB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [enlargement of the prostate]. The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body.
Avatar n tn Since telogen effluvium is reversible and self-limiting, I think you should hold off on the Propecia for 3 months and see what happens. If the hair is falling out a lot less, then I would continue to wait for the hair to re-grow from its telogen loss. You don't really have anything to lose--male-pattern hair loss wouldn't leave you substantially balder in 3 months anyway, and you can always reconsider the use of Propecia then. Take care. Dr.
Avatar m tn Use it twice a week it will clean out all the **** from your scalp and provide a healthy environment for hair loss. Minoxidil is **** because it can irritate your scalp(especially at 5%) and even caus other problems. If you suffer future hairloss I would reccommend proscar( it is propecia but get a pill cutter and cut pills into 4) you have to take it every day but it works for almost everyone to prevent hairloss and maybe grow back more. It has worked for me.
Avatar n tn I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist for this as it is important to rule out all the causes of hair loss and reach a confirmatoty diagnosis.Treatment is specific for that diagnosis.Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
Avatar m tn I went to a dermatologist and she put me on propecia for the hair loss. I also took a blood test and said my iron was low. But other then that I my blood was normal. Is it possible they ran certain tests on my blood and not others which maybe why I am misdiagnosed. I have a follow up in late july. I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease?
Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.
Avatar f tn I am 25 year old guy.. I have hair loss. so the doctor prescribed me for propecia which i consumed last 50 days. for the first 30 days, i consumed one tablet per day and the last 20 days i consumed 2 tablets/day. I was also taking anti convolution tablet for a different reason from a different doctor for 10 days. Now i am having erectile dysfunction. So i stopped taking the pills now. Can anybody please tell me how many days it will take usually for reversing this condition?
Avatar n tn About three months ago I started taking propecia because I thought my hair was falling out too young. I experienced several side effects from the drug including total loss of sex drive, difficulty maintaining erections, loss of spontaneous erections/morning erections. I stopped taking propecia within 3 weeks due to an inability to deal with these side effects. Things seemed to be slowly getting slightly better as the weeks and months progressed however now some new issues have been arising.
Avatar n tn So, I went back on BC and the hair stopped falling out. And I have been for the last 3 years, but I am thinking future and I would like to have kids eventually and well I know this isn't very likely while im on BC, but at the same time I don't want a repeat of the hair thing, so my question is; are there any known medications out there that could act as an alternative to birth control when used to treat hair loss? And I am not referring to rogaine or propecia or anything like that.
Avatar m tn It also may decrease the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. Finasteride (Propecia) is also used to treat male pattern hair loss (gradual thinning of the hair on the scalp, leading to a receding hairline or balding on the top of the head in men.) Finasteride (Propecia) has not been shown to treat thinning hair at the temples and is not used to treat hair loss in women or children. Finasteride is in a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Folks; I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question but i will ask it any way hoping some one may have answer. I've been taking Paxil 20 mg for about 5 years now, 1 years ago, my doctor added Lamictal 300 mg to help my mood swing issue. Now I'm trying to get off Paxil, so my doctor start adding Wellbutrin 300 mg to the mix to start gradually getting Paxil off my system. The problem is since we added Wellbutrin I noticed that i'm losing a lot of hair.
Avatar n tn im 16 and i used to have alot of hair no i still do but now less and when its wet you can see the white part of my upper head, there is a history of hair loss in both my parents families, which is the best supplement to stop hair loss and get my hair back? I am thinking to try www.regrowmyhair.
Avatar n tn m ready, is there an alternative pill to birth control that will combat the hair loss. It is the yasmin birth control that is stopping my hair from falling out and helped regrow hair. So I was wondering if there is medication that contains whichever ingredients are contained in birth control that has aided in my hair regrowth that I could take so that I can go off the pill when I'm ready to get pregnant and not have my hair fall out again.
Avatar n tn I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when -the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT -Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT DHT causes hair loss I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.

5708852 tn?1372804931 Hi everyone! Ok so sorry if I go in to depth in my question and sound a little rude! So i'm only 19 but I'm struggling here! I've been loosing my hair due to male pattern baldness a bit and I have recently started a tablet called Propecia which i'm sure some of you know have libido side effects.
Avatar m tn Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. In male-pattern baldness, hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head. Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine.
Avatar m tn re not taking any meds that may influence your hormone levels, e.g. finasteride (brand names Propecia, Proscar) for male pattern baldness. Always consult your doctor before you decide to try any new treatment or natural supplement. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Considered it before, but to expensive. Gonna have a kid next year. Anyway the cause of your big c**k could also be the cause of your hair loss. Hormones are a B**ch. I would suggest staying away for propecia or any other medication that would block any hormone your body naturally produces. Same boat only I'm 25 at least it is happening later in life for you. I wear hats alot too and my head is shaved.
Avatar n tn Gleason 6 (3+3) 2 out of 12 cores positive (3% and 22%) PSA (08/08) 4.7 PSADT 3.34 yrs. Do you agree with general guidance for invoking active treatment vs. observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode?
