Proscar effect on psa

Common Questions and Answers about Proscar effect on psa

proscar

Avatar n tn Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide. I am considering brachytherapy as an ultimate choice of treatment, but do not want my "window" for it to close. Your thoughts?
Avatar n tn You need to make it clear what your status was when you took the last PSA test 1.35. Had you already been on Proscar for some time? Others have said "The increase is the key even if it is small."... Right now you don't need to worry about that. You have a enlarged prostate and there may be other reasons for the rise from one test to the next. PSA scores can jump around wildly in some men for many many reasons.
Avatar m tn 05/11 =1.3 11/10= 1.1 04/10= 1.1 04/09= 1.2 10/08= 1.1 01/08= 0.9 11/07= 0.8 07/07= 1.1 12/05= 0.8 01/05= 0.6 07/04= 0.7 10/02= 0.9 08/02= 0.9 05/98= 0.9 DRE -no nodules What is likelihood this rise represents Ca, and what is next suggestion? Thanks!
Avatar m tn As I have mentioned earlier, studies suggest inverse associations between obesity and PSA with low PSA levels found on obese people. However it has also been suggested that PSA concentrations are lower among men with higher BMI or with higher energy intake. Since you have increased the time gap between your diet, it is less likely to be the reason for your low PSA levels. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency. I do feel like I have mild prostatitis from time to time, causing incomplete emptying of the bladder, and a more reduced urine flow.
Avatar n tn I already had a question partly on this theme but now I have more background information and am really puzzled. I have been several times in prostate biopsies during the last less than 4 years, altogether more than 60 needles. In April 2008 the last 20 of these biopsies where taken and one positive core was found from the left side, showing 1 mm and 2 mm cancer nodes (Gleason 3+3). The right side did not include cancer in these biopsies.

Avatar f tn I have a slightly enalrged prostate for years.nothing new. My PSA level is totally normal. Examination of prostate (physical) revelaed no alarm. Blood tests in general are normal. I have hypogonadism and use AXIRON..but the loss of sensation extends to SEXCUAL as well (almost no feeling there and DIFFICULT to ejaculate.if i do almost nothing comes out. What is going on? Avatar f tn here is the link .... diet may have an effect on PSA levels....PSA levels are not reliable indicators of cancer. http://www.ehow.com/about_5373002_foods-lower-psa-levels.
Avatar n tn 60 plus year old - if i had sex or masterbation before the psa tsst can that effect the psa number in the blood test? let's assume either having sex or masturbation for a daily period of a week before the test. seeking advise.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response - had first visit and after exam showed nothing from "feel" and I inquired about the effect of heavy exercise and sexual activity 24 hrs prior to the last PSA we decided to do another PSA test that day. Got reults back and it was 5.3 instaed of the 6.3 before. I've read where in cancer cases this number should never go down and a "bouncing" number is more likely age and activity related. Have another consult with the doctor in 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn It has taken 8 years for my PSA to rise to 4.2. My doctor has me on a Cassodex only, 50mg, regime and in 2 months it has reduced my PSA from 4.2 0.27. I have a friend who takes only Cassodex when his PSA gets to 5, then stops 3 month later when his PSA gets below 1.0. It usually it takes 2 years to climb back to 5.0. Has anyone else tried this? The side effects on Cassodex are not nearly as bad as Lupron, but I seem to have less energy and sore nipples. Doe anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn I had agressive treatment with a combination of external radiation and Brachytherapy. I now on Uromax tablets (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg) which is causing me severe pain when ejaculating. Please advice if there is anything I can as I am still very young.
Avatar m tn You didn't answer my Question.
Avatar n tn Hence, a thorough discussion on the effect of these medications would be best. Stay positive.
Avatar m tn Sorry - rest of message was cut off! I was saying I’ve seen studies using Finasteride along w/ Lupron for recurrent prostrate Cancer. This cancer feeds off Testosterone & other Androgens, DHT is an even stronger one than T, so it makes sense that lowering DHT could also have a positive effect on slowing the progression & lowering PSA. Not sure why the Dr. denied using it for that purpose - it makes sense & is not unheard of...
1272624 tn?1395434357 After six months, the researchers found methotrexate had no significant effect on objective measures of disease activity. But it did seem to offer subjective benefits for some – that is, doctors and patients seemed to agree the drug was beneficial based on doctor observation and how the patients reported they felt. Bernard Rubin, DO, division head for rheumatology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, says that’s not an unimportant consideration.
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar n tn I have been tested with slightly high PSA (2.5, 2.36, 2.48) age 44. Tests at age 32 and 40 were 1.8 and 1.6 respectively. I have recently had bouts of nocturia with urgency and a continuous feeling of needing to urinate, even after just voiding. Some twinges of pain in my prostate. These last about 12 hours and then go away. I may go a couple days and then another episode. I've tried Leviquin for 30 days with no effect.
Avatar m tn I had quite severe BHP and taking proscar and cardura. Had always difficulty urinating. I tried saw palmetto and it made me unable to urinate at all. I had to go to hospital.
Avatar f tn blocking production of testosterone and lowerring PSA levels. I had almost a dozen side effects on Lupron. The worst were cardiac effects. Now I'm on Firmagon (Degerelix) for a month so far, and only ONE side effect: occasional sweating; not night sweats. I can deal with that. Ask the urologist to try this as it's been proven to work very fast(1-3 days to castration levels). Oncologists are extremely attatched to THEIR profession and have tunnel vision whwn it comes to other therapies.
Avatar m tn I simply would like advice on general known things most comonly known to effect labido I might consider as a 38 year old healthy male who has been on HRT (100-200 test cyp per week) with no success in labido and e.d. Example, the things on my list so far are dopamine levels, proprolactin, psa. I have tested E2, cortisol, thyroid, adrenal wich all are middle normal range.
Avatar n tn My Radiation Therapy (IMRT-Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) of 35 days ended on 16th of December and I had some side effect, like increased frequency of urination, burning in rectum while passing stool & general fatigue, but were all withing tolerable limits and did not hinder with my day to day life. They are all gone now. I only have side effects of Hormonal Therapy well within tolerable limits, though uncomfortable. I had Gleason score of 9.
Avatar m tn What should my PSA level be (ratio) 5 to 6 weeks after radical prostate removal? When will I have erectile function again (man in early 50's) time frame is fine What over the counter (if any) means (foods, vitamins, herbs etc) can I use to help with Ed issues As stated I cannot get an erection after while trying with wife I did feel pleasure and actually ejaculated something (was not semen). What was it urine? What are signs that my erectile function might be returning besides an erection?
