proscar

Avatar n tn Avodar and Proscar are 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. These drugs reduce serum PSA levels. New PSA baselines can provide insight to the aggressiveness of your disease. Sincerely, Ashutosh K.

Avatar m tn As I have mentioned earlier, studies suggest inverse associations between obesity and PSA with low PSA levels found on obese people. However it has also been suggested that PSA concentrations are lower among men with higher BMI or with higher energy intake. Since you have increased the time gap between your diet, it is less likely to be the reason for your low PSA levels. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn 05/11 =1.3 11/10= 1.1 04/10= 1.1 04/09= 1.2 10/08= 1.1 01/08= 0.9 11/07= 0.8 07/07= 1.1 12/05= 0.8 01/05= 0.6 07/04= 0.7 10/02= 0.9 08/02= 0.9 05/98= 0.9 DRE -no nodules What is likelihood this rise represents Ca, and what is next suggestion? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Endorectal MRI is of no use now since your prostate has been removed. You should continue to follow up with your doctor and have your PSA levels checked periodically.
Avatar m tn Im not a doctor but had prostate cancer and 45 radiation treatments. Im ok now and my psa has been steady at .08. Well i guess you already know about retrograde ej. My psa was 4.7 and had a biopsey and discovered it. Ive learned that the best warning sign is called a spike in the psa. Like from 1 to 4. I dont see a spike with yours. Just keep checking with your doctor.
Avatar m tn I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency. I do feel like I have mild prostatitis from time to time, causing incomplete emptying of the bladder, and a more reduced urine flow.
Avatar f tn I have had SIGNIFICANT reduction in the sensation of ejecualte and amount of ejaculate over a several YEAR period of time. I al TAKING testosterone therapy AXIRON and my levels are usually NORMAL of T on the AXIRON. BUT in the past 2 years my sensation on oregasm is VERY decreased, and inthe past year I notice a much smaller amount of semen. I DO have a SLIGHLY enlarged prostate, I DO have pre- diabetes, I do take Verapamil, and a small dose of Atenolol . I do take PROSCAR.
Avatar n tn s physician. Also, the PSA levels should be monitored closely now. Surgery is an option here. PSA levels are expected to decline after surgical removal of the prostate. At this point, discuss the options with the physician. Medications ( chemotherapy and hormone therapy) may be given first prior to radiation therapy or when surgical therapy fails to bring down PSA levels.
Avatar m tn I recently was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My PSA was 4.8 and a gleason of 3+3. I also do a lot of bicycle riding. I've already had an elevated PSA when I was tested 12 hours after a 35 mile bike ride. My question is, how long should I wait from my last bike ride before taking another PSA test.?
Avatar f tn I am alarmed NO ONE is too concerned (I saw 2 urologists) and no one can dfiagnose this..I take PROSCAR for benign hypertropic prostate-that has nothing really to d owith hleping the loss of feeling..just lets me urinate..when I CAN sense it..HELP ???? I have NOT been put on any new medications recently but LIVALO I hardly think that causes a numb bladder or reduced sensation. here is NO Burning or pain on urination .
Avatar n tn Some alb may offer cPSA which direct measure bound PSA (related to cancer) but not measure total PSA and %free PSA, but most labs do not offer cPSA. There is a book - The complete prostate book, by J. Stephen Jones from Cleveland Clinic Foundation, describe all prostate issues and PSA test in details. Good luck for your PSA test, hope it will stable. And please keep us posted. The best regards.
Avatar n tn Infection or inflammation of the prostate gland or tissue remaining after prostate surgery can cause your PSA levels to increase. Once prostatitis is treated with antibiotics, PSA levels generally return to normal. - Recent ejaculation. Ejaculation (orgasm) can cause a temporary increase in PSA levels. To get the most accurate reading, don't ejaculate for two days before you have a PSA test.
Avatar n tn Every PSA test I have ever had has been "abnormal" and also very low free PSA ratio (7%). I've had all my internal organs scanned (prostate ultrasound scan 3 times) had a biopsy - all 12 cores cancer free and everything else completely normal - no signs of cancer anywhere in my body. Seems to me that PSA testing is pretty useless and only causes extreme anxiety.
Avatar n tn Depending on what exactly was performed during the procedure, ureteroscopy and cystoscopy, or any manipulation of the urinary tract can transiently affect PSA levels. By 8 to 10 weeks though, most of that inflammation should have subsided and your PSA level would not be affected. If there is doubt, you can repeat PSA in a couple weeks to verify the value.
Avatar n tn My father had his prostate removed in 2006. His PSA levels post prostate removal have been steadily increasing. He is now at 0.6 and is experiencing pains in his hips. He has never fully recovered from the surgery and still experiences issues with his bladder. My question is, at the current level should we be concerened and push for him to seek futher treatment as he is stubborn and doesn't think it is anything to worry about or is he right?
Avatar m tn Thanks I got another psa and a free psa . Results psa 3.7 and free psa 17%. Psa up again and free psa should be 25% or higher. Not good enough to say no to biopsy. Scheduled for wed. With agleason of 7 what option did you take radical, seeds, radiation or other.
Avatar n tn 58 is well within the normal range, however if considered on the higher side by your urologist, you could take a short antibiotic course and get the PSA levels repeated and if still high, consider getting free PSA levels done. You may like to discuss the situation with your treating urologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn By that logic PSA levels should be higher in those men that consume meat and dairy compared to vegetarians with or without seed implants. I don't think so.
Avatar m tn Acute holding back of urine would not cause elevated PSA levels. I would suggest repeating the levels in a week and if still high you may consider a percent free PSA test. Further investigation/ management plan can be chalked out accordingly. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn Results of the PSA are not diagnostic of prostate cancer. If PSA levels come back in the highly elevated range, it can indicate prostate cancer, and further diagnosis is indicated. (http://prostatecancer.about.com/od/screeninganddetection/a/PSATest.htm) With regards to your prostate node, was there a biopsy done? You should discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation and to rule out cancer. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn However, biopsy itself, rigorous physical activity affecting the prostate, such as bicycle riding, may cause a temporary rise in PSA levels and excessive doses of some chemotherapeutic drugs, may increase or decrease PSA levels. It is recommend that a high PSA should be repeated (between 6 weeks and 3 months after the high PSA) before taking any further action.
Avatar f tn Also how likely both PSA levels were affected by blood taken too soon after an infection? Could The PSA have been on its way back down to more normal levels and they just tested his blood too soon? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Avatar n tn At this point however, it has been shown that PSA is not really specific. Liver problems and even benign enlargement of the prostate may increase PSA levels. Breast and ovarian diseases have been shown to affect PSA levels in women. In your case you are thinking of a kidney infection. If the infection affects the prostate then PSA level may be increased. In your case, a prostate infection or inflammation has to be ruled out.
Avatar m tn My PSA has been drifting upwards and after maintaining a level of around 500 for my testosterone, my most recent blood test show an increase of PSA from 3.4 to 3.7 and testosterone levels of 500+ down to 200. I am 63 years old. My concern is that my low testosterone levels may be masking higher PSA levels.
