proscar

Avatar m tn s due to using findriside for hair loss. My hair is fine but not worth it now. I only just noticed it four days ago and have immediately stoped taking the medication. Would you say I have done permanent damage or when the findristride is totaly out if my system will it all go back to normal. I have an okay sex life and I am 32.
Avatar f tn Hair grows in cycles and some times we have more hair loss than others. Stress will certainly cause more hair loss. And opiate withdrawals causes stress. When you take opiates for a long time like you have, your body's physiology has been altered. Your central nervous system has created a multitude of opioid receptors that all are screaming for endorphins (opiates) to fill them, but your body has now forgotten how to make them by itself.
Avatar n tn BACK IN DECEMBER WE INCREASED MY DOSAGE, AND MY HAIR HAS BEGUN TO FALL OUT AT AN ENORMOUS RATE. I NOTIFIED MY DOCTOR, SO WE SCHEDULED TO HAVE MY LEVELS CHECKED AGAIN. I AM WAITING FOR MY RESULTS, BUT MT DOCTOR HAS GONE OUT OF TOWN AND NOW I'M BEGINING TO GET REALLY WORRRIED BECAUSE MY HAIR IS STILL FALLING OUT, SO NOW I HAVE STOPPED TAKING MY MEDS FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HAPPENING, AND SHOULD I STAY OFF THE MEDS FOR NOW??? I HAVE AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID.. HELP??
Avatar f tn Will adding cytomel to your levoxyl help with hair loss? This discussion is related to Cytomel in addition to Synthroid.
Avatar n tn Finasteride goes by the brand name Propecia (for MPB) and Proscar (for BPH) and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness (MPB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [enlargement of the prostate]. The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body.
Avatar f tn My friend was recently prescribed a higher dosage of Synthroid - from 50 mcg to 88 mcg, I think- and she has experienced significant hair loss. She is wondering if she can attribute this to the med increase OR the fact that she also switched to the generic. ANy help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I took it for a week (I had googled it beforehand and saw that hair loss can be a side effect) and after a week my hair started to come out in alarming quantities! I stopped right away. But it has been over 4 weeks and still my hair is falling out. My doctor insists that DHEA would not cause hair loss but I've read many posts where it is implicated. He's re-testing me to see where my TSH and other levels are.
Avatar n tn It would be very helpful if we could have a look at your thyroid related test results from the time you were feeling good, and also from the time when you dosage was reduced. You also need to know your test results from Aug. It is a good idea to always get a copy of blood test results and write on there how you were feeling at the time, and your med and supplement dosages. Those reports are a very useful history for future reference.
Avatar f tn I would agree that the hair loss is not a side effect but inadequate levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3, along with likely low levels of ferritin, which is a form of iron. It appears that your doctor tested for Free T4, but Total T3. Total T3 is not very useful compared to Free T3. Scientific studies have shown that hypo symptoms correlate best with Free T3, and not Free T4 or TSH.
Avatar n tn m hoping the increased dosage of Levoxyl will stop my hair loss. I have been taking 1200 mg of calcium vitamins and a multivitamin and evening primrose oil vitamins(2000 mg) (which I heard would help hair loss). Is there anything I should be doing to help prevent continued hair loss? Any suggestions would very much appreciated.
Avatar f tn 80mg is a high dosage of beta blocker, and the max recommended for atenolol in 100mg. Maybe you could ask your gp to try a more powerful reacting beta blocker, one which requires much less dosage with the same effect. Bisoprolol fumrate is a powerful beta blocker and most people take 1.25mg - 20mg. You have to start on a low dose and gradually increase it over a few weeks until you find the right level. If you suddenly jump in at 20mg, your heart could start to pump too slowly.
Avatar n tn ve been on levothyroxin and now on Synthroid, my endo just upped my dose 3 mos ago to 125 mcg from 75 mcg and I am suffering terrible hair loss. I only realized it just recently and stopped taking the Synthroid. Do you recommend Armour?
Avatar n tn Those tests are TPO ab and TG ab. Have you noticed other symptoms besides hair loss? Hair loss is frequently associated with being hypo, but there can also be other causes. It seems that the only test for you was TSH. That is totally inadequate.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I'm scheduled for PT on 4-14-10 (nodule susp for pap) and have read lots of frightening stories about hair loss due to thyroid conditions and some meds used to treat hypo patients. I am currently on 50mcg levothyroxine. I started it 1-20-10 and have so far had not had any extra shedding/thinning. My questions are - if I was going to have hair thinning as a side effect of the levo, would it have most likely already started? Or is it noticed more with higher doses?
Avatar n tn Hair loss is a symptom of hypo. Also, hair loss is reactive, so hair loss today may reflect your thyroid hormone levels several months ago more than those of today. Furthermore, it can be one of the last symptoms to go away. If either of you has recent labs to post, please do, and we'll tell you what we see. Include reference ranges as they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Also, tell us about any other remaining hypo symptoms you might have.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments they are very appreciated and will ask for another blood draw with Free T3 and ask to increase dosage as well. I feel good except that I am tired and my hair loss, perhaps due to my healthy lifestyle which I think plays a huge role...diet and exercise. That helps but correct med dosage is essential and will work with my Dr.
665125 tn?1273023924 Don't get me started on this subject! My thyroidectomy was 13 months ago and the hair loss is still happening. Granted I had a lot to start with but it's still coming out by the masses. My endo, who is a confirmed MORON, has told me that "it takes time." He says that the hairloss is the last thing to get fixed once everything gets back to normal. The good news is that I do have new growth all over my head so going bald isn't really gonna happen.
Avatar n tn I know that side effects of my meds is shedding and hair loss. But there should be away to keep my hair?
Avatar m tn after some more tests, i was put on dose 50. i having insomia, stange feeling in head. severe headaches, hair loss. anyone can help about? is it side effects of the medicine?
Avatar f tn I am in desperate need of some advice on how to stop my extreme hair loss. My labs are as follows, T3 free is 3.4 range is 2.3-4.2, T4 free is0.96 range is 0.90-1.80, TSH is low at 0.01 range is 0.40-4.50, Thyroid Peroxidase AB is high at 558 range is<35. Iodine is low at 45, range is 52-109, Ferritin is normal at 94 range is 10-232. I feel fine except for vertical ridges in my finger nails and night sweats. My Peroxidase has come down since I have started LDL therapy.
