Has anyone experience hair miniaturization due to thyroid condition/thyroid meds? Do the hairs eventually return to normal size once hormone levels are stabilized? I lost alot of hair (possible Telogen Effluvium) from thyroid meds. Very little regrowth, and the new hairs are "miniaturized"- what does this mean?
I started taking 1000 mg of spirulina a few days ago and my hair has stopped falling out. I can also see new regrowth already. I'm still hypo according to my labs and Im taking a low dose of Armour, which hasn't brought my numbers into range yet.. My eyebrows are growing too. I just wanted to share this with anyone who is struggling with hair loss and thinning. There's hope!
I take it once a day. The trick is to drink it quickly before it thickens.
My Daughter has also used it all of her big kid life. the stylist call her hair fur.
My dermatologist prescribed steroids and the rash went down, but the itchy scalp and flaking and hair loss are still going on - three weeks later.
I want to know if this is hormonal and stress-related (my job is requiring me to work 12-hour days and is a stressful PR position AND I work a job on the weekends because my PR job doesnt pay what I owe in student loans) - this on top of having to deal with becoming pregnant (unplanned) and then losing that pregnancy.
My eyelashes fell out and came back a couple of times...I think it's because those hairs are short lived and replace themselves pretty quickly. I always considered the first hair to regrow the "bad" hair.... it seems very brittle and not quite right. Once that grows out, the newer hair should be more normal.

I have thyroid problems, first hyper, then hypo, but my hair was never the same, I bought these, and I swear by them, they do work, my hair never looked and felt and GREW as healthy as it did. Remember though to take vitamins at least 4 hours apart from your thyroid medication so it doesn't interfere.
I went through 8 cycles of chemo back in January of 07 and lost my hair. Then it started to grow back but then my cancer had spread to my brain. They removed it and I went through 6 cycles of chemo but my chemo was discontinued because an MRI showed that the tumor in my brain had started to grow again. I went through 20 treatments of full brain radiation and 4 treatments of gamma knife or focal. Now my doctors want to do intense chemo and a stem cell transplant.
The pattern and quality of hair regrwoth after losing hair to chemotherapy can be varied and is different from one person to another. Most people would have thicker hair upon regrowth but like in your situation, some can grow thin sparse hair. It is indeed possible that this can be a lasting consequence of the chemotherapy.
There are new technologies regarding hair regrowth and I'm sure your dermatologists know these.
Hair grows about a half an inch a month normally (I know because my boss owns one of the biggest beauty companies in the world). On treatment I lost about 80% of my hair and the rest of it was all cracked and damaged from the dehydration.
After treatment It grew like a WEED and it was beautiful brand new 'virgin' hair.
Both of you are having problems with hair regrowth after treatments, if you are getting very thin and fine hair, then have it cut like what is called and Italian cut with a razor and very short that will give it strength for follicular oxygenation and take Biotin [H] a vitamin for hair regrowth.
Please ask your doctors if you can take Biotin, if so then you will see it grow healthy and strong in a few months.

Is there ever miniaturization of the hair (thinner hair) with regrowth from Telogen Effluvium? If so, does the hair ever return to normal size?
I lost about 1/2 of my hair from Telogen Effluvium. I have little regrowth which appears to be miniaturized, and some of the new hairs (about 4-6 inches long) are falling out. Will these hairs regrow, and should they return to normal density?
Also, most of the miniaturization is on the sides; the crown looks normal.

Hair grows in cycles and some times we have more hair loss than others. Stress will certainly cause more hair loss. And opiate withdrawals causes stress. When you take opiates for a long time like you have, your body's physiology has been altered. Your central nervous system has created a multitude of opioid receptors that all are screaming for endorphins (opiates) to fill them, but your body has now forgotten how to make them by itself.
