Propranolol use for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol use for anxiety

inderal

Avatar n tn Well, its most common use is for anxiety - which is fairly common for people with ADHD. You can read more about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propranolol What I don't understand is why your doctor didn't explain this to you. Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn So, I started researching it and have found that it is not generally used for someone with generalized anxiety but usually for those that have anxiety in certain situations. I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Propanolol is given for a variety of reasons to include anxiety, tremors, migraines, high BP, angina and others. It can cause some odd feelings when first starting it. I don't understand this being prescribed to you for your symptoms. The Codamol is a pain reliever, but it soundsa like you needed an antibiotic. I doubt that you would be feeling any effects after two weeks from these two drugs but we never know.
Avatar f tn Anyone knows the dosage of propranolol (inderal) for a 37 year old for the purpose of relieving the symptoms asociated with anxiety (shaky hands and trembling voice) that is to be taken 1 hour before the anxiety provoking situation?
Avatar f tn So theoretically they become much more expert in it and the interactions between drugs and things like quitting smoking and also in the appropriate drugs to prescribe for a certain condition. Beta blockers, for example, have only been found effective for social anxiety, which doesn't mean they don't work for some people for other things but that's not their main use in anxiety treatment.
Avatar n tn I also take the Propranolol twice a day for my heart. The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
4155003 tn?1351614311 Cocaine combined with propranolol is life threatening. Propranolol is blocking the ability for blood vessels to dilate and the effect is a so-called unopposed alpha activity, which causes constricted blood vessels and extremely high blood pressure (strokes and heart attacks). The heart rate can also get dangerously slow in response (compensatory bradycardia). Stopping taking propranolol just to go out and take cocaine sounds like a very bad idea.
Avatar n tn i am just concerned for the fact that the prolonged use of propranolol might cause any sort of memory loss to me. Kindly advise me in this regard.
Avatar n tn To find a well informed answer to your query about the Sertraline-Propranolol combination, you need to look for information/evidence according to the hierarchy. A systematic review (a review of a number of studies exploring the same issue) is considered the best as far as strength of evidence is concerned. Clinicians' experience, case reports and non-journal articles are lower level sources of evidence.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn t think this will be enough for my presentation. I talked to my doctor and got a .25mg prescription for Xanax. Does anyone here have experience combining the two? Was it more effective than propanolol alone? How long before my presentation should I take both pills? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I originally was taking it for anxiety, but now i feel as though it is good for my drug problem and saves me from having a heart attack. Is this true? Because I feel as though the propranolol slows down my heart rate and makes my pulse lower than it would be if i just did coke. I'm trying to fix my problem but i want to know if the combination of coke and propranolol is dangerous. Please provide me with an answer.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 19 year old and I am being treated for anxiety and I'm always stressed out about my health and thinking I have a serious illness and thinking I'm going to die. My doctor put me on propranolol/beta blockers on 16/04/2014 which was last month. Sometimes I was missing them and only taking 1-2 day. What I was wondering is people that have been or are stressed or been on propranolol have they had problems with their period?
Avatar f tn I slowly got off propranolol 2 weeks ago after my surgery for hyperthyroid and after i did i starting getting really bad anxiety attacks, this whole week has been horrible, from day to night i havnt been able to relax. How long does it take for someones body to adjust off being used to propranolol? Any one else have this problem?
Avatar m tn I saw my Cardiogist 2 weeks ago, he look at my last holter monitor results and said it was anxiety and said that I may have dysautonomia but probably cause of the anxiety... I was stable on 10 mg x 3 of propranolol day for the last 7 months but the tachycardia was not under control at all... He suggest to RX 25 mg x 2 day of metoprolol. I start taking the metoprolol 2 weeks ago. I feel awful! Not only its not helping the tachycardia, but it make my anxiety worse.
Avatar n tn The top four benzo, altering doses as needed. I also was a medication aide for people like me and had to administer anxiety meds as needed for others at a group home I worked at. Currently I am getting 90 valium a month, three a day as needed. Does it work? Honestly, I don't think so, but I am sure it prevents escalating or has some unknown benefit. Valium is a long lasting benzo, Short stuff won't protect a job. Marijuana has yet to fail me.
Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
1258608 tn?1269552597 I have been experiencing severe depression and anxiety for about a week and a half. It is driving me crazy and makes me want to isolate at home. I would love to hear any suggestions you guys might have. Is there a better diet I should be working on or supplements. I am currently on 160mg of Geodon, 200mg of Zoloft, 5mg of Abilify, 2mg Klonopin, 60mg of Propranolol. I also suffer from major tremors that are pretty much constant and very noticeable to others.
Avatar f tn I take the Propanolol for a tremor in my hand, I take Citolopram for depression, and Clonazepam for anxiety.
Avatar n tn Hi- thanks for your thorough response. I know most cases of akathisia remit after the medication is stopped, but i have found in research some cases of akathisia can last over 2 years- which is horrible. I am seeing a movement disorders specialist and she thinks it is akathisia, not TD, becuase we can't visibly see the muscle spasms that I feel- it is all internal. She said in TD one would see it on the outside.
