Common Questions and Answers about What is propranolol use for

inderal

Avatar n tn Well, its most common use is for anxiety - which is fairly common for people with ADHD. You can read more about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propranolol What I don't understand is why your doctor didn't explain this to you. Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar f tn I've had a rough couple of weeks, herxing like crazy with my mood going downward. I know I need to make some changes and have put an email into my Doc with no answer...The 3 new drugs I've started in the last 2 weeks are Mepron, Propranolol, and Methyl-Guard plus. I'm wondering which of these is causing the depression. If it's the mepron I'm off it for 2 weeks but I never want to take it again.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar m tn Hi, I've now wanted to talk about a major part of my anxiety that I feel has impacted my life and has made me become reliant on propranolol. You see, ever since my anxiety got worse I have developed cardiophobia. I started to become obsessed with my heart and worried non stop about heart attacks and disease. So much that I took more propranolol tablets and became addicted to heart rate apps. Now I no longer use the apps but I feel like the propranolol are what's keeping me stable.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn I also take the Propranolol twice a day for my heart. The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
Avatar f tn I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn However, I am also nervous about any potential harm to my baby. Can you clarify if it is safe to use propranolol (5mg) infrequently during the remainder of my pregnancy??? thank you very much!!
Avatar m tn My doctor just recommend a new med called nebivolol (bystolic) to me thst im pretty hesitant to try as propranolol does help Most out of what ive tried. The nebivolol bystolic didnt get the besr reviews from what ive seen. thats just my experiences and what things have worked and not worked for me on an individual basis. Avatar n tn I originally was taking it for anxiety, but now i feel as though it is good for my drug problem and saves me from having a heart attack. Is this true? Because I feel as though the propranolol slows down my heart rate and makes my pulse lower than it would be if i just did coke. I'm trying to fix my problem but i want to know if the combination of coke and propranolol is dangerous. Please provide me with an answer.
4155003 tn?1351614311 Cocaine combined with propranolol is life threatening. Propranolol is blocking the ability for blood vessels to dilate and the effect is a so-called unopposed alpha activity, which causes constricted blood vessels and extremely high blood pressure (strokes and heart attacks). The heart rate can also get dangerously slow in response (compensatory bradycardia). Stopping taking propranolol just to go out and take cocaine sounds like a very bad idea.
Avatar n tn weight for example. What is a perfect dose for an adult male would probably be too much for a preteen girl. It's important to talk to a doctor or poison control in case treatment is needed.
4155003 tn?1351614311 Yes aslongest your not taking any medication, u can drink, but dont abuse is bad for your heart, & head... Beta blockers are good for lower bp and heart rate, or after heart attack or heart surgery, just take care eat healthy, n acohol might be good for ur heart or might be bad for ur heart, talk to your doctor.. Ask for advice... Best of luck...
Avatar f tn t hurt to smoke, that is a beta blocker it can slow your heart rate my question for you is do beta blockers work good for anxiety bc iv been on paxil zoloft celexa buspar wellbutrin prozac ativan nozinan and tranxene with basically no success
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community. I take it daily however it is along with other meds too. Usually treating migraines and/or anxiety is not a one-thing-fix-all. And even if something worked on you in the past may not work today and vise-versa. You can definitely ask about it, it won't hurt. But, my suggestion is to just let your doctor how bad it is and let him/her choose what to give you next. Remember, treatment is a marathon, not a sprint.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if it's common for one's HR to shoot up, even when laying down. But, what I will say is that before my Lopressor, every morning my HR would shoot up to 160. I know this because I wore a monitor for three days. I don't know if the tachycardia started before I got out of bed or not, but I know I felt horrible BEFORE getting out of bed.
Avatar f tn He has not revealed to his MD that he had taken this overdose. He is going for a follow-up tomorrow and tell the doctor. He does not drink and has never taken drugs, untilt his event. This was not his prescription of propranolol, it was a family memebers. can this be drug induced hepatitis, can it be reversed, or is it usually permanent damage. If in fact this is drug induced hepatitis, does the dmage continue, or did it stop after the drugs were out of his system? Thanks for any help.....
Avatar f tn Because of my symptoms, my doctor is ruling out physical causes before diagnosing it as stress (which will be his diagnosis if my daily adrenaline levels turn out to be high). He put me on Propranolol for a month for anxiety and my other issues.
Avatar n tn The decrease in HDL-cholesterol levels and increase in triglyceride levels reported in 1978 to be associated with use of propranolol, and with the concomitant use of hydrochlorothiazide and propranolol, was not found.
Avatar f tn Of interest, propranolol is one of the banned substances in the Olympics, presumably for its use in controlling stage fright and tremors....Propranolol is currently being investigated as a potential treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. Thanks for your questions. If you have any other questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
