I have been on Methimazole 10mg 3x a day for four weeks and was on propranolol for the first two weeks. I am off the propranolol. After three wks I am now taking methimazole 2x a day. Since the on set of this illness I have had achy/painful gums which seem to get more severe with each episode. I have seen my Dr., dentist and a periodontist. Tylenol helps. No one can find a cause for this pain.

The reason they do the endoscopy or pill cam is to find out if you have varcies or any type of problems due to acid reflux or stomach ulcers. So far I have not had any adverse side effects from the atenolol . So If they say it will help varcies i'd try it. At 25mg it can't be to bad.

I don't think atenolol can usually cause memory loss. It is less lipophilic than propranolol and is excreted by the kidneys besides.

However I was unable to cope with the number of these, and have been taking a small dose of atenolol daily since (12.5mg, one tablet cut in half). So I was put on amlodipine 10mg and Propranolol 40mg on 1st July 2016. This helped lower my blood pressure to around 115/68. Only problem is that it makes me feel quite tired after little activity like walking. so i have been taking 5 mg of atenolol daily for fast heart rate and now i found out i have vitamin d defficiency.... i have always had vit d defficiency and used to treat it with taking 50000 iu weekly.... now my concern is can i take vit d in high amount with atenolol????

My heart rate remains a little high and i want to take propranolol in a very small dose like 8 mg a day in divoded doses. I am scared that my bp would lower and cause probs. Can i take it???

I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.

I have tried numerous - norvasc, coversyl, enalapril, atenolol, diovan, propranolol n god knows what else. Out of all these, I have actually found one that suits me - nif-ten (a combination of nifedipine & atenolol). Unfortunately, it has a side effect of causing gum disease/periodontal. I am looking out for other meds to replace this.

Propranolol and metoprolol are fairly able to do so, but Atenolol is, as far as I know, not. Which means, propranolol and metoprolol can provide more cognitive side effects (forgetfullness, confusion, mood disturbances, etc.) than Atenolol. Which unfortunately means that beta blockers aren't necessarily fun meds even though all of them end with -lol :) On the other hand, some beta blockers that are able to cross the blood-brain barrier may have an anxiolytic effect.

Does it take a while for the cogentin to build up in the system before it starts working good? Or does the akathisia go away once you get use to the new med? I think it might be getting worse first it was just my leg shaking, tapping my fingers, and clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth a bit. Now it is so bad I can barely type because my hands are so fidgety. My tongue is twitching and my lips too now. Can this be a permanent side effect or does it go away?

told me I can increase if I need to, but it seems to me that this beta blocker makes me sleepy and depressed lowers my blood pressure and now I wonder if the slowing of the heart rate is not making my skips worse. Should I increase my atenolol, stop my atenolol or should I try Magnesium. I have heard alot of people say that Magnesium has helped them. If I do stop taking the atenolol I know you are not supposed to stop all together how should I wean myself off of it, again I take 25 mg a day...

You could live a normal lifespan or even longer depending on the degree of your HCM and symptoms.

This fairly strenuous exercise did make me a bit breathless and I found my HR only in the upper 90s. Before Atenolol I recall a similar workout would have put my HR over 130, or near my maximum allowed rate. Research on the web says that Atenolol is much longer lasting than Metoprolol and suggests that Metoprolol Tartrate has to be taken twice a day... Atenolol only once !

There has to be a generic form of Toprol XL. Here, the generic form has been around for ages. I remember my dad was taking it for angina for years. It was always the generic version, as far as I can remember. Now, after surgery he is only taking 25 mg, but it's still generic. In my honest opinion, Metoprolol is not the best medication. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and may have side effects like lethargy and tiredness, as well as sleeplessness at night.

I have had a high resting heart rate (100-130s) since July, and I finally decided to go ahead and try a beta blocker to help lower my heart rate and reduce the chest pain. I have normal-low blood pressure, so I know I'll have to keep an eye on that and any side effects. Hi, I'm glad that the Lopressor (metoprolol) work great for you!!! Can I know why you take it? What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).
