Propranolol liver

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol liver

Avatar f tn As Sir_Osis mentioned propranolol is a beta blocker, which lowers blood pressure and heart rate. I would imagine that an overdose would severely drop someone's blood pressure...which in turn, would decrease the blood supply to the organs (which obviously includes the liver). This drop in blood supply to the liver could cause a "shock to the liver" and elevate liver enzymes. I have seen where someone's liver enzymes began trending downwards after a similar event occurred.
Avatar m tn Propranolol is not on the list of contraindicated drugs for Harvoni. Here is the list: http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/ledipasvir-sofosbuvir,harvoni-index.
1008841 tn?1293598960 I already take Spironolatone 100 mg, furosemide 10mg, propranolol 10mg, which she not taking me off of. I have Thrombosis in my right portal vein. But, my BP is pretty low usually and my pulse rate is already so slow that I'm afraid sometimes my heart will just stop. But, what I really wondered about is that BP Med.that I've heard actually helps reverse Fibrosis in the liver. I thought I might suggest that to her but I can't remember the name. Can anyone help me.
Avatar f tn Can the beta blocker Propranolol work on giant liver hemangiomas in adults? It looks to be working in reducing the size of infant hemangiomas. What are other options? I have 4 in my liver & the largest is 14cm. It grew because of pregnancy. I'm in good shape, 31 & 135 ilbs. My doctor referred me to a surgeon & didn't really want to discuss propranolol.
Avatar m tn Indeed, although preventing an increase in HVPG and maintaining a reduced AzBF, propranolol pretreatment caused a more pronounced reduction in liver perfusion during exercise than that observed in patients receiving placebo, which may have adverse consequences in patients with an already impaired liver function".
Avatar f tn Don't worry about your liver on 10 mg twice a day. Unless, your liver is already failing.. you're golden. If only 10 mg helps you not to wake up racing, that is a blessing. I carry 10 mg tabs to take as needed. I have been known to take an extra 10-20 tabs a day at times. I call them PEZ because I thought they did nothing. I took them on top of a regular long acting propranolol dose. Haven't had to since adding the diltiazem and flecainide to the beta - blockers.
Avatar f tn My daughter (6 years old) was diagnosed the beginning of June with Graves. Since then we've been on Methimazole. We started with Atenolol but 3 weeks into it was put on Propranolol 4 times a day to get her heart rate under control. We were told that in a couple of weeks if her numbers weren't down we'd be doing RAI. Next visit the numbers had moved T3 was down from 15.9 to 7.1. We were happy to finally see progress.
1475202 tn?1536270977 m not sure of your condition but varices are caused from restricted blood flow through the liver generally cause by a buildup of scar tissue (cirrhosis) so to see an improvement is not likely but avoiding any further advancement of liver disease or varices is terrific. However reduction in portal hypertension is possible through the use of nonselective beta blockers, particularly propranolol and Nadolol.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.

Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Propranolol for high blood pressure and tachycardia(10mg at 8am, 2pm, and 8pm) for about 18 days now, and four days ago I woke up feeling quite dizzy. Since then it seemed to get better, but now I feel lethargic, dizzy, and generally unwell. Is it my drug? Note: I'm a 15-year-old male.

Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
Avatar f tn I take propranolol the dosage is up to your doctor it doesn't really make you tired although everyone is different but it doesn't me it's suppose to be for stress and anxiety but I don't think it helps very well you might consider ativan there isn't a medication that has propranolol in it there is a script of propranolol by itself it's not mixed with any medication
Avatar n tn Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences. We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed an increase in propranolol for migraines and anxiety.I was taking 120mg in the morning(extended release) and my doctor has raised the dose to 160mg. I had been taking the propranolol in the morning, but have read that the best time to take it is in the nighttime. Does anyone know what would be the best time morning or nighttime? Thank you.
2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?

Avatar f tn If any one can help answer my question, I would be so grateful. I have been hospitalized in the ER three times in the past two weeks for bradycardia. All this suddenly started happening in the last two weeks. I start to feel weak, have a seizure, this last time, I fell down on the kitchen floor and hit my head pretty good. I am a 28 yr old female who has been on propranol for almost 4 years. I have a at home blood pressure monitor, that also checks my pulse and I do it religiously.

1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
2203249 tn?1338990446 Is he having HCC surveillance every 6 months using ultrasound and AFP blood levels. Males with hepatitis C have a high risk of developing liver cancer. Liver cancer must be caught early for the best chance of survival. If your boyfriend isn't under the care of a transplant center he is receiving inadequate medical care which will only make things more difficult as his liver disease progresses. Bleeding varices can be fatal and should be taken very seriously.
